A picture is worth a thousand words, but after reviewing the pictures of the hundreds of sultry soy boys and Tofutti cuties who entered our “Sexiest Vegetarian” online photo contest, only one word comes to mind—HOT! The results are in, and our PETA panel has narrowed down the field. It’s time for you to pick the best from this crop of cruelty-free hotties and crown one guy and one gal the “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive.” Let us know which of the hot potatoes below lights your fire by choosing one woman and one man (don’t forget to click “Vote” at the bottom of the page). We’ll tally the votes and publish the winners’ photos in PETA’s Animal Times. Both winners will also receive a terrific cruelty-free prize package!

Click to enlarge Lauren, 23, lives in North Brunswick, New Jersey. While Lauren went vegetarian to fight cruelty to animals, she says it has helped her health as well: “I feel physically better and healthier without eating flesh and will never go back to being a meat eater.” In her spare time, she hands out anti-fur leaflets at Wet Seal and goes on walks with her canine companion, Stanley.

Click to enlarge Debra, 23, lives in Winter Park, Florida. Debra is a busy woman when it comes to helping animals. She is a leader of Orlando Animal Rights Alliance, a group that speaks out against the fur industry and puppy mills. Debra has participated in “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” demonstrations and says her biggest turn-on is someone who knows “how to put that tofu power to good use … with and without their clothes on.”

Click to enlarge Mary, 28, lives in Boise, Idaho. Her father’s hunting habit didn’t stop Mary from becoming a vegetarian at age 9. Mary lives with three cats and two rescued companion rats. She enjoys running, shopping, and writing poetry.

Click to enlarge Micah, 20, lives in Richmond, Virginia. When Micah isn’t hitting the books at Virginia Commonwealth University, you can find her protesting KFC or working on her Web site, NCVeg.com. When we asked Micah if she thinks vegan guys are sexy, she replied, “There is nothing sexier! … A kind heart is a huge turn-on, and so is a lean, healthy body. Not to mention eating meat is linked to impotence!”

Click to enlarge Blair, 24, lives in Pace, Florida. Blair could be called a hero to cats, as she has rescued felines abandoned on the highway, stranded in a tree, and dying of a snake bite. By sticking to a vegetarian diet, Blair is a hero to farmed animals every day.

Click to enlarge Marni, 30, lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Marni recently taught a yoga class to raise money for a local group that advocates spaying and neutering for companion animals. In addition to yoga, she is a skilled belly dancer. Marni attributes her energy and good health to being vegan.

She participates in protests against the fur industry and circuses that use animals. Sunya is currently in school studying interior decorating.

Click to enlarge Ying, 23, lives in San Francisco. Born in Taiwan and raised a Buddhist, Ying is vegan because of the benefits for animals, the environment, and her health. An avid runner, Ying says that her diet has given her more energy and better health.

Click to enlarge Lani, 20, lives in Ashland, Oregon. Lani never liked eating flesh as a child, and with the support of her vegetarian dad she kicked the meat habit and is now completely vegan. A piano player and a bicyclist, Lani is planning to obtain a masters degree in marine science.

Click to enlarge Lara, 23, lives in Washington, D.C. Lara was a freshman at American University when she first saw PETA’s “Meet Your Meat” video. She decided to stop eating flesh and went vegan soon after. Now Lara is a dedicated volunteer with D.C.-based animal rights group Compassion Over Killing and has helped organize the annual student conference Liberation Now! Lara also enjoys bike-riding, dancing, and vegan cooking.

Click to enlarge Paul, 33, lives in Monterey, California. Paul is always on the move, whether it’s in a kayak or on his bike. Paul recently completed an “extreme trail marathon,” a 26-mile race over mountain paths. An employee at the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Paul calls Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation the most important book he has ever read. What kind of person does Paul look for in the dating scene? “Vegan women. Women who have made the connection are such a turn-on. Compassion is a truly sexy attribute.”

Click to enlarge Carl, 23, lives in Mercerville, New Jersey. A vegetarian for over five years, Carl is a dedicated volunteer at a Trenton animal shelter and lives with a dog and four cats. When Carl isn’t studying network engineering or performing tech support for the state of New Jersey, you can find him mountain biking, drag racing or rollerblading.

Click to enlarge Ravi, 25, lives in Tempe, Arizona. Ravi is a former Marine who recently served in Iraq. Ravi, who won his platoon’s “Iron Man” distinction in a grueling test of strength and endurance during boot camp, says that his vegan diet helps keep him strong and gives him tons of energy. Ravi is also a warrior for animals, as he regularly participates in animal rights demonstrations in Arizona. What does this military man find pathetic? “Guys who think that abusing small animals is masculine.”

Click to enlarge Kyle, 25, lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kyle went vegetarian after his canine companion Ellie passed away. Having experienced the sadness of losing his good friend, Kyle realized that there’s no difference between dogs and cats and farmed animals. Since kicking the meat habit, Kyle says he’s become a better athlete. Kyle enjoys skateboarding and graphic design.

Click to enlarge Mark, 43, lives in Pella, Iowa. A serious weight-lifter and runner, Mark credits being vegetarian for his improved strength and performance. Mark’s parents came from a farming background and were both meat-eaters, but Mark and his three sisters decided to go vegetarian after learning about the benefits vegetarianism has for their health, animals, and the planet. Mark says his vegetarian role model is St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa.

Jake refuses to eat flesh because he doesn’t support cruelty to animals and because he doesn’t want to ingest all the nasty chemicals that are shot into farmed animals before they are killed.

Later, Alex became a founding member of the first vegetarian society at Yale University. Now a manager of a software company, Alex’s goal is to save enough money to open up a vegan restaurant.

Matt went vegan because he’s angry that the meat, egg, and dairy industries destroy the environment, torture animals, and peddle products that give people heart disease and cancer. Matt says his favorite activities include playing guitar, seeing live shows, and going on dates with his girlfriend to vegan restaurants.

Taking the phrase “fish are friends, not food” to a new level, Jeff once helped transport a fish rescued from a high school experiment to a new home. Knowing that fish aren’t happy living in tiny tanks, Jeff took her all the way to Los Angeles, where she now lives happily in a spacious new home. Jeff studies political science and economics while working part-time with kids at a local elementary school.

Click to enlarge Bryan, 26, lives in San Diego, California. A tireless advocate for animals, Bryan made a big splash when he helped lead an investigation into a foie gras factory farm in California. (Foie gras is the grotesquely enlarged fatty liver of force-fed ducks and geese.) This investigation garnered national media coverage and helped lead to a law banning foie gras in California. Since then, Bryan has passed the California bar exam and now splits his time between freelance legal work and animal advocacy.
