04:18 pm - Wedding update Vericon update is mostly written, but is at home. So now you get a wedding update. aren't you lucky???
Clergy has been selected. The job was pretty easy. We met with 3 different peoples. There was only one who really felt 100% right for us. So we asked her to be our officiant and she accepted. Hurray!!!
We have a florist. We're meeting with them on Feb 12 to talk about the flowers themselves. Exciting!!
lordaerith finally finished drawing his wedding costume. he did an amazing job. We got it to Starr and went fabric shopping with her for it. We found some pretty cool fabrics. The next step is getting all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen to get their measurements taken and to go fabric shopping with the sets of them. yes, dear wedding party, this means you! Also, i need to get a bridal petticoat and to find shoes. well, i'm going shopping with kiten on saturday, so maybe i'll find something then, or at least get an idea of what's out there.
Aerith and I met with invitation people on Tuesday. Damn invitations are expensive. Especially for what we want. But I'd rather have the invites that I want because I feel they really will set the mood of our renaissance wedding than some of the other things.
we still need to confirm ceremony musician, meet with the Warfield House people about menu options, find stuff for ceremony and reception centerpieces, and add more stuff to our registries. And there are a million other little things that will probably need to be done. But at least I feel like most of the big stuff is taken care of. And there's still over 4 months to go. 08:54 am - to cold to work yesterday was a really good (if unproductive) day. I finished Banewreaker. I really really enjoyed the book and I learned some new words, like nonce and anneal. Author's aren't supposed to make you cry in the middle of the first book of a two part series! It's unfair!!! Of course now I have to wait until AUGUST for the second book, but at least I'll be up on my works by Ms. Carey by Vericon. Wheeee!!! Vericon!
The evening was going out to dinner with omnia_mutantur and wandelrust who are rappidly becoming two of our favorite people. Afterwards we came back to our house and played Apples to Apples. Some of it was just too funny. Something about monkeys.
Today I get to work and my boss comes out and tells me to go home because the furnese blew over the weekend and it's about 32F inside the buidling. Another day off w/pay! I'm going to be a productive bunny and get stuff done. And go to the library to return Banewreaker and pick up Powers of Detection so I can read Anne Bishop's Surreal story that's in that one.
p.s. if you're a paid user, you can get an extra 2 weeks on your account b/c of the LJ blackout. go here: http://www.livejournal.com/misc/claim-2005-01.bml
update: have been very productive. turned invite list into Excel spreadsheet and used subtotal function for # of guests and invitations needed. got address to send transcript to for teacher certification and how to get the transcript from smith. got web access working on cell phone/downloaded aim for cell phone. called dentist and made appointment. called other dentist to have x-rays sent to me. called invitations place and set up time to meet with them. called about possible Middle School Math teacher openning, it's been filled. now to do some laundry folding and then lunch finding and then going by smith and the library for stuff. 03:23 pm - my brain hurts Posting from work at UMass, bad me!
I got the new Jacqueline Carey book Banewreaker (The Sundering, Book 1) from the library last week (got to love interlibrary loan) b/c it was getting mixed reviews on Amazon.
I'm about 100 of 430-odd pages into it. The writing is still amazing, but very different from the Kushiel's Legacy series. There hasn't been any sex or truly sexual overtones, which may be why some people didn't like it. But it is turning out to be a perceptions of evil discourse, something like Wicked. It's a fairly standard fantasy plot. 7 gods made the world, 1 of them was not like the others. He is now "evil" and there is a profacy to defeat him once and for all, blah blah blah. But what makes it facinating is that we are folowing those who are bound to the "evil" god. And they are full characters, with lives and passions and heartbreak. And it's riviting.
I'll give a full review when I'm done reading it.
back to work that makes my eyes hurt.

05:56 pm - and now...wedding stuff Dragged safirerings to the Bridal Show at the Big E today. The drive down was just horrible with the snow and stuff, but we got there safely. It was different going to the bridal show this time as I knew what I needed and didn't need, so there were a lot of booths I could skip. Talked to some bridal places about shoes and a petticoat. I think I'm going to try Belchertown Bridal first and then if that doesn't work out, David's Bridal. Also talked to some invite places and some florists. And of course a bunch of makeup and skin care places, including this one place that had nailpolish pens. they were pretty cool.
Also wedding realated, aerith and i are going to be meeting with 3 different sets of clergy within the next week or so. should be interesting. and hopefully there will be good that comes out of that. :)
actually, i think the wedding stuff is coming along pretty well. a little behind my schedule, but not bad overall. Current Mood: cheerful Current Music: Blackmore's Night - Self Portrait

12:37 am - Happy New Year Happy New Year to one and all.
lordaerith and I ended up throwing an impromtu party on New Years Eve with omnia_mutantur, wandelrust, their friend Kel, pyramus, threegee, verbena76, and artemis42 in attendance.
For details of the night you can visit their journals...to see the alcohol list, visit lordaerith's. I do believe we achived optimal drunkeness.
As for 2004, it started and ended with me passing tests that I needed to take to help me further my academic/professional life. Job wise it saw a crapy job, a job for a week, and a job that i am absolutly in love with. Personally things are still wonderful with aerith and the wedding planning is going well (even if we're a bit behind on some things). Also the addition of the Frenchman has been truely terrific. It wasn't a perfect year, although I did have a better April 5 than the past two years. I finally got to visit the west cost and now aerith and I have a wonderful airport story. Best of all, I think i got by without any major toe injuries.
A few weeks ago, muninwing looked at me and said that I looked really happy. And I responded that, yeah, I really was.
In 2005, I hope to be able to have some idea about where my professional life is really going. I want to expand my circle of friends and spend more time with those friends who I don't see as much as i'd like to. Oh, and in 6 months and less than 18 days I'll be getting married to the most wonderful partner I could even hope to wish for.
p.s. pictures of San Diego are up here. More pictures will be up as soon as I a) edit them and b) move some stuff around, as I seemed to have maxed out the space alotted to that username. Current Mood: accomplished

10:17 pm - 37 hours of travel OMG! what an insane trip just to get to San Diego. For those who didn't listen to my phone posts, I will sum up.
lordaerith and I get to Hartford around 12:30pm for our 1:30 flight. Find out the flights been delayed. It gets delayed some more for various reasons. Finally we get on the flight and get to Cincinnati around 9pm. Totally missed our connecting flight which should have left at 4:50 and ended up leaving at 7:15 anyway. by now we have a flight at 9am to San Diego. There's no way we can get our bags but they give us a voucher for a hotel and an overnight kit w/toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.
Get down to the shuttle area. It's COLD out. everytime we try to get on a shuttle it gets packed way before we can get on it. We meet Grandma Mary who is really nice and fun to talk to. Finally when a shuttle comes around again, Grandma Mary gets on it and calls for her grandkids (us) so we get to get on the shuttle with her. it's snowing like crazy out.
We get to the hotel (it's now past 10pm) and check in and stuff. The hotel kitchen is closed. So we walk (in the sleet and snow) to Applebees to get food and find out their kitchen is closed too. We go back to the hotel and have vending machine food and ice cream for dinner. Then we go to bed.
We get up around 7am and find out that not only is there a "level 3 - no one is allowed on the roads" emergency, but Delta ran out of de-icer some time in middle of the night and now all flights are delayed until at least 11am. So, we get ready, hop a shuttle to the airport and see the line...we try to skip the line b/c we were told that our new itnerary sheets would get us through security...they don't.
So, at about 8:15 we get in line.
At 8:30, the line behind us and the line infront of us looked( like this: )
We run into Grandma Mary around 8:30, but she had a bording pass, so we told her that she could get through security.
By 9am we could see the terminal room with the check in booths. ( look honey, the terminal )
2 hours later we were about half way across the terminal room. We've met some really intersting people by this time, a couple from Sweeden, some Italians, and others. ( half-way there )
By 12:30 we were in the switch-back line. This means that we had slowly crossed all the way to the far wall (where the mosaic was in the last picture) and now had to go back and forth to get to talk to someone. ( look, ma, I can see people being checked in. )
We finally get to someone around 1pm. By that time we just go up to him and say, "Get us to San Diego...or if we can't get there, Los Angeles." Hell, at this point we were ready to fly to Vagas or Phoenix, just anywhere on the east cost. The guy told us that since our flight had been canceled, we were booked on flights for the NEXT morning from CVG to Philly, from Philly to Atlanta, and then from Atlanta to San Diego...but before we burst into fits of hysterical laugher he told us that he could do better than that and put us on a direct flight to San Diego that was leaving at 4:50...does that time sound familiar to anyone else? Just to be sure we were getting out of CVG that night, we were also booked on a 7pm trip to LA as a backup.
With the magical bording passes in hand we got through security with no problem (and no line). We go to Terminal B and Aerith finally gets the steak and a beer from The Outback Stakehouse that he's been wanting since the night before. Everyone working there had been there for too long. Our waiter was totally hung over. ( Aerith's beer and awesome blossom )
After the food, we go to our gate (we see lots of people on cots). But there's no plane there. I go and find this really nice Delta guy about it while Aerith watches our stuff and our phones charge (hurray for bringing the charger with me). I block the sunlight so the guy can read his computer better (he says that he's going to hire me and that he won't let me leave *G*) and find out we're leaving from a different gate. So we get our stuff over to that gate.
( The snow )
At that gate, we can see that the plane is there. Hurray. We meet N, the gay boy from Mississippi who is dressed like he belongs in the Newsies and getting a grad degree in experimental physcology. N is loud and funny and trying to get to Atlanta and then home.
The the plane gets delayed. Why? First the flight crew for our plane are stuck on another plan that doesn't gave a gate to go to so they have to send out a transport vehical to get everyone off of that plane. FINALLY (around 6ish) we get on the plane. Then the plane doesn't pull back with the first tug. They have to get a larger tug. We get that tug and the plane is away from the gate. But then, the engines won't start b/c while there is auxillery power, there isn't enough air coming through to get the engines to turn over. what!!! And of course over half of the trucks for this sort of thing are out b/c they were overworked the night before.
Eventually the engines start and we have a nice flight to San Diego where they play Elf (i was making up words to the scenes) and I fall asleep quickly, all cuddled up against Aeirth (we have 3 seats for the 2 of us). At one point I wake up and am v. confused b/c they had changed movies to "Without a Paddle" or whatever it's called, but I thought it was still Elf for a while... Anyway, the flight is smooth as anything, and we get to San Diego around 9pm local time (27 hours late). Our bags are eventually found by the wonderful Aerith and we get back to dad's house where food and Cimmy and Z await us. We eat, chat, and collapse into bed. trip went well (after the 37 hours of traveling). got to see daddy and cimmy and cimmy's man, Z, who is a surfer and blows glass. saw San Diego and the Zoo (with koalas and pandas and big kitties) and beaches and open-air malls.
got new clothing for work thanks to a special no-camera episode of "what not to wear" staring me as confused girl who needs clothing for work and Cimmy as wonderful fashion expert who showed me the way.
thanks to rev. tom and his lady for watching the monsters and the frenchman for the driving too and picking up from the airport.
