This is my 1st post and well, let me describe myself..
My name is Natasha..I go by Tasha
I'm 15 and from California.
I'm Jewish only by Jeudaic Law(I'm agnostic),the past few years I have spent finding more about the Religion. Other than what my grandmother has told me about it(between the Yiddish mixed in with the English, I was pretty confused lol.. I love my Little Jewish Grandma!), and well, I would like to know more, and well, talk to people who are..

My Heritage includes: Romanian, Armenian, English, Irish, Scottish and German. Yeah lol , I am totally a mix. I am still pretty happy I found this community on here.. It's awesome that there is one!

Some more about my self.. Read more... )

Strange question.... [16 Jul 2004|04:42pm]

[ mood | curious ]

This is probably going to sound really strange, but I thought maybe it might turn up something if I asked. It certainly can't hurt me, at any rate...

Many, many years ago (like 50 or maybe even more), my great uncle Joseph Katz left St. Louis, MO to head out east to New York city and join his brother, my grandpa, Louis. He never arrived. This past winter we burried my grandpa. He died never knowing what happened to his brother - where he ended up, why he never arrived, why he never tried to contact anyone...nothing. For the past seven months this mystery has really started to tear at my soul. It's breaking my heart that he was never reunited with his long lost brother, and I can't help but feel like I should continue the search. There's still my great aunt, Ettie, who is old and frail and suffering from the onset of demential and maybe alzheimer's. If I could find out what happened to Joseph before her time comes and maybe reunite them... well, wouldn't that be a mitzvah?

If you think you know anything, please contact me:
cyanidetablet@livejournal.com

I can't offer you much more than my gratitude, unfortunately, but I hope it's enough.

this is such bullshit:

http://www.digital-brilliance.com/kab/faq.htm#HowoldisKabbalah

ONLY orthodox judiasm has a difficult time, letting rabbi's teach women the Kabbalah. G-d knows now limitations, including gender. The answer to life is that there is no answer, so everything is balanced, everything is nothing. that's why People reffer to people who practice this as "Jew-Bu's". A lot of Buddhist philosophy is incorporated into the Kabbalah, and as far as I know, all the prayers, except for a few, are all in Aramaic, written and translaited in modern day (and olden-day) sanscrit. a 10,000 year old language.. and no where in the Jewish Mysticism (Kabbalah) does it mention women not being as important.

No where.

Actually, in ORTHODOX judiasm, there is a feminine face to G-d. Both equally as important. Judiasm is a beautiful thing, and the Kabbalah, I can not understand, can not comprehend, for we as mortals, and og G-d, or G-oddess's descent ..are not able to understand the mystery that is life. Only appreciate it is there. And that's why it's "Mysticism"..

People need to really stop being so monotheistically mysoginistic.

Hello! [16 Jun 2004|03:39pm]

[ mood | working ]
[ music | The Smiths - Ask ]

Right so, I'm a semetic chick who's trying to get in touch with her roots, if you will. I'm Jewish by Jeudaic law, but I don't practice the religion myself (I'm more of a zen/unitarian type). However, most my family is Jewish and I'd like to learn more about them. I also am good friends with two chicks (their twins actually) who are half Saudi, half America and I love to hear about their culture.

So here's something about me:
I'm 23, living in the Philadelphia region. My heritage includes: Russian, Romanian, German, and a smattering of the British Isles. I thought the word "schmuck" meant "mean person" up until the age of five or so and would shout it with glee at anyone I determined warranted being told how mean they were. My mom has done a lot to try and teach me about my heritiage and culture, and now I'm sort of branching out to find out some more on my own. I'm not looking to convert, but I do want to know where I come from.

Anyway, found this community whilst browsing [info]rachellll's uner info page and thought it looked neat.

So here are some pictures of me:

More you say? Ok, but only for you! )

Hey, I am so excited to find this community! My name is Shifra and I am Jewish. I live in NYC and speak Yiddish, English and Hebrew (4 if you include Spanish ...I am learning in school). I would really love to learn Arabic and live in Israel. Another place I would love with all my heart to go is Petra!...I am a zionist and part of the youth movement Young Judaea...which would make me a young Judork...hehehe...My main wish is for peace in the middle east and no more killing. Ahhh im still so excited that I found this community!
