Current Mood: accomplished So after a 2 year break ( I can't belive its really been that long) I finally made soap and lotion again. I was worried about the soap at first. The FO I used (Victorian Vanilla) turned the soap a dark brown swirled with beige. It looks like it was intentional and when I don't tell people it was a mistake they think it looks cool. The soap also seemed to be getting brittle afew days after unmolding it but I think its just very hard soap. I didn't have any coconut oil so I tweaked the recipe and added some shea butter. I used it for the first time last night and even though its still 2 weeks from being fully cured it is VERY hard and lathers well. It feels creamy on the skin and rinses clean leaving the skin soft. I'm most pleased! I gave some to my Secret Pal on the Soaper's Notebook (message board I belong to for soap makers) and am giving the rest away as Christmas gifts. After the holidays I will be making another batch. This time scented with either lavender or patchouli essential oil. As for the lotion. I followed my usual recipe on Tuesday and got 8 2oz bottles of my lotion, just as nice as I remember it. I scented most of it with my Summer of Love EO blend.I also scented one bottle with lavender and another with Herbal Ecstacy FO for my Secret Pal. I've already given 2 bottles away to local friends who really seem to like it. Sunday I decided to make some more since I thought of some other people to give it to. I tried making a smaller batch but my proportions must have been off becasue the lotion did not get thick enough. The first batch I left out the sweet almond oil so it was a total loss :( The second was useable but I wouldn't give it away, too thin, I'll keep it for myself though. Third time was the charm but I had to make the full recipe (which was way more than I needed) and I ended up with 8 more 2oz bottles. I even sold one bottle and one bar of soap to one of my housemates to give to his mom for Christmas. That was my first sale! I'm starting to think seriously about upping my soap production and taking some to the local food Co-Op to see if they want to sell it. I have a good friend on the board and Zach thinks they'd be likely to carry it since it is locally produced. I might be able to work something out with them to get supplies through them as well. They do carry one handmade soap already that is produced somewhere in IL. Its a decent soap but I think mine is better (then again what soap maker doesn't LOL) In order to do that I will need to work on my packaging and develop a logo. I'm pretty sure I will keep the name I've been using, Belisana Creations. But I'm also toying around with other ideas. Just today I came up with Clean Peace Soapworks which I really like as well. I'm open to thoughts and suggestions. I'm also taking guinea pig volunteers. Curious about my soap? Wanna give me feedback after you've tried it? Email me your snail mail addy and I'll send you a bar from my next batch. I'll have to cap it at 5 or 6 people or it will cost me too much. I may do the same with my lotion at some point but that is trickier to sell than soap (there are stricter rules for its production, etc) so I'll start with just the soap and go from there. Anyway, I guess that is enough babbling for now. |

Current Mood: amused There has been a brisk flurry of snow falling all day long, but there is hardly a flake accumulating anywhere. Illinois weather is strange. Not that I'm complaining. I don't relish having to clean off my car when I go home tonight. Its just....odd. |

I'm still here. Learning to cope. Monday was hard. Each day has been a little better. Friends have helped. Thank you to those who replied anyway. Your words were a comfort. Yes I am going to continue to live here. I just got my room set up the way I want it, I'm not moving anytime soon. I feel a little isolated, but that is partially self induced. We can still be friends. Its hard right now because I do love him, hopefully it will mellow into a crush and then fade but right now it doesn't feel like that will ever happen. I always forget how much I hate being single. My friends are encouraging me to just relax and enjoy it. I wish I remembered how. I'm looking forward to a introspective winter. Gonna cozy up in my beautiful room with my books and my cat and dig into next years' Mystery School work once it starts. Life is still good, a little lonelier, but still good. |

Current Mood: crushed I just wrote this email to my close friends here in town, the ones I get togetehr with every Wednesday. None of whom have an LJ. Since I seemed to have summed things up as best I could I guess I'll just post it here too. It seem weird since it just happened. And I'm not looking for a string of "I'm sorry" replies, I just figure this is the fastest way to let the most people know. My tribal belly dance troupe, Farfasha, rocked today at our debut performance. See pictures here: http://gallery.chambana.net/photos/bell But every silver cloud has a grey lining. After a weird evening of not talking Zach and I finally did have that talk we've needed to have. And the verdict is that its over. It was his decision, not mine. He says he has a lot of stuff to work out and needs to be single. On one level its a relief to finally know for sure. But right now I'm mostly just heartbroken. I really do love him, he doesn't love me back. That hurts. And though I know its not my fault, I can't make him love me. I can't help but wonder what I could have done different or better. I know there is nothing more I could have done. I loved him the best way I knew how. Its not me, its him. As cliche as that is, its how things are. Now begins the process of learning how to just be his friend and his roommate. He has offered to give me as much space as I need. I wish he weren't so nice about it. On some level it would be easier if I could hate him. But I don't. He is a great person. One I would have been proud of to have stayed with for a long, long time. But I will just have to settle for being his friend. |

Current Mood: tired So I'm back from the SOA protests. Sorry the phone post didn't come out as clear as I would have liked. I also wish I had recorded longer. Thanks zarfmouse for transcribing and explaining what it was. I have my pictures uploaded and sorted in my album: http://gallery.chambana.net/photos/amys I had a really good time. The drive was long! I went with a local anti-war group who subsidized the cost of renting 2 nice mini-vans. We had 12 people total. I was there with 2 good friends, Jen and Sarah. And I knew 2 otheres there from the IMC. The others were all new to me but were very nice. I called in reports to zarfmouse which he posted on the IMC web site here and here. They have all the highlights of Saturday's events. Participating with the Puppetistas was a blast! Sunday was the vigil which I recorded in the phone post. First there were speakers and some musicians on the stage. There was the No Mas/No More litany of different wars and attrocities that have happened all over the world, each one followed by singing: No mas, no more shout the hills of El Salvador Echo the voices of the world, we cry out: No mas, no more. It was very moving. Very emotionally draining. I'm very glad Sarah remembered tissues. The singing of the names and the response of "presente" went on from 10:30am until after 1:00pm. The crowd was divided down the middle so we were in a giant circle and we all marched past the gates of Ft. Benning and had a chance to place a cross with the name of a victim or other memento at the gates. Some of the names also had ages. Those were hardest to hear, especially when they were kids. The youngest I heard was 8 months. There were also names of women and their unborn children. It was a very powerful event and I'm very glad I went. I hope I can go again next year. |

Current Mood: content Thank you to everyone who posted birthday wishes on my last post. It was a very nice birthday. Zach made me a lovely cake. Yellow cake with chocolate rum frosting topped with raspberries. Threre was also raspberry sauce and extra raspberries and stawberries on the side to have over the vanilla ice cream. It was all very delicious. I took a picture, I'll post it later after I download it from the camera. I had a small group of friends over for cake and ice cream. There was also wine, hard cider, milk and tequila shots (with limes). No one had any tequilia LOL. We also ordered pizza becasue as yummy as the cake was I wanted a non sugar laden food for dinner. It was low key and nice. Everyone left fairly early since it was a week night so we had time to watch part of the Children of Dune DVD set. Before we did that I had a shot of tequilia with Zach since he had gone through the trouble of cutting up the limes. 29 is too old to have never had a proper tequilia shot (I'd never done it with the salt and lime) It was very nice. :) Next year I want to have a big party for my 30th. I also celebrated my birthday by going to the Dr. for a "well woman visit". Got all my bits checked. I went to Women's Health Practice right down the street from where I work. It has to be one of the most beautiful doctor's offices I've ever been to. The Physisian's Assistant I saw was very nice and gave me one of the fastest and most painless paps I've ever had. Talked about BC options and she ordered blood work for me since I have never had cholesterol or thyroid and stuff checked. The woman who drew the blood was very gentle and called me sweetie. Everyone there was very, very nice.I'm curious about how those tests will come out. I have no idea what my cholesterol is. I hope its not too high. I've cut way back on the amount of fast food I eat so I think it will be lower than it would have been at this time last year. Had a rude awakening on the scale. Need to get on the bike more. How many years have I been swearing I'd take better care of myself? Still haven't quite gotten there. Had a few good starts but could never quite keep it going. The longer I wait the harder it will be. A healthy me now means a healthier me at 70 or 80. Wish gym memberships and yoga classes didn't cost so much. Ah well, enough rambling for now. Its been a good year. I think the next one could be even better. |

So today is the begining of the end....of my twenties. I turn 29 today. Where did the time go? Wasn't college just last year? Didn't I just turn 24? When did I get old? I don't feel old. I'm not old. Life is good. Saturn return here I come. We're having cake and ice cream at the house tonight. If you're local you're invited. Even if you're not local, jump in the car and drive here! Its only a 3 and a half hour drive from Louisville! 5 from Lexington. And you gain an hour! LOL And happy birthday to Lam. My little Scorpio soul sister is 4 today. They grow so fast. Hug her for me, dubheach. |
