Textmessage ... Someone just SMS'd my phone. I think it was probably a wrong number ... but maybe it wasn't.
And yes, that _was_ the best I could come up with to post (I suppose I could put more stats about my email, but I'm not even all that interested in them :) ). | Monday, February 3rd, 2003 | 10:02 am |

Too much spam. | Tuesday, October 29th, 2002 | 8:55 pm |
Fencing update I won the epee tournament this weekend (Saturday).
I'm now a D02 in both foil and epee.
That is all. (or more accurately, all that I feel like posting about at this moment in time) | Monday, September 16th, 2002 | 5:41 pm |
I don't really have much to say (big surprise there ...) but I did want to note that not only did I renew my old classification at the first tournament I went to this season (a couple weeks ago in Ann Arbor), but I earned a new one, a D02, this Saturday :)
[In fact, if I had won my next bout, which would have been amazing, I would have a 'B' ;-)] I'm not really fencing like a 'B' level fencer yet, though, so it's good that I don't have it :)
I'm going to the Schoolcraft D and Under tournament this weekend, so we'll see what happens there. It should be fun. | Sunday, August 25th, 2002 | 10:37 pm |

Lack of geeking out was getting to me... So I decided to try Gentoo Linux. (I really wanted to like Debian, but I can't because it sucks too much, RedHat pisses me off, and Slack wasn't too nice either). So far it is pretty cool. It's source-based so everything that has been installed so far has been built from source. The only part that is annoying is that I haven't really been able to do anything with it yet since I'm waiting for `emerge system` to finish running (it's downloading and building all of the stuff for a basic system ... I already had it build libc and gcc :) ). Ok, enough geek rambling from me for now. | Tuesday, August 13th, 2002 | 6:43 pm |
I cleaned the entire apartment (except for my room which I didn't have time to clean) this weekend.
I saw dfayne and brooke. It was nice.
Danny donated an unused pre B&W; G3 for a replacement geeklair.net machine, which is very cool. I think I'll wait until I have a copy of 10.2 for it before I bother to get it installed, though.
I'm thinking about buying a house (but I'm still saving up the necessary $$ for the down payment).
I need to get un-lazy and update my paypal information so that I can buy more livejournal time (my paid account has almost expired).
Ugh. It appears I have to do some more programming teaching for my friend so that he will understand what he is doing :)

Well, the big news (and reason why I haven't been around online or posting much) is that there is an amazing woman who actually wants to spend time with me (and I've been more than happy to oblige). Her name is Anne, she's a member of my fencing club, and we've known each other for a while. She's wonderfully intelligent, funny (and actually thinks that _I'm_ funny), attractive, and has genuine compassion for other people (which is very important to me). So my 'free' momements (between sleep/work/fencing) have been almost totally dedicated to spending time with her lately. And yes, you will all get to meet her soon (but I don't want to inflict all of you upon her at once ;-) ). It is good. | Saturday, July 13th, 2002 | 11:18 pm |
geeklair.net now has 1GB of RAM. Spamassassin and perl have been reinstated.
I think I may need to think about getting more disk, though. | Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 | 4:38 pm |
Random info because I haven't updated in a while...
I canceled my horn lesson today (this sinus infection type cold thing I have makes it too painful to try to play). I'm going to have an hour -long lesson next week to make up for it.
I have fencing legwork practice tonight. I think there will be good sleeping after that is over.
I'm getting an extra (and extra long) fencing lesson slot this fall, which should be good.

Server problems ...
I think the machine may be swapping itself to death (or it might be bad RAM).
In any event, I've got a bunch of RAM ordered and will attempt to do the evil install as soon as I get it (probably Thursday). Last time, it took ~ 45 minutes to get the RAM installed (probably the worst Apple case design ever, IMHO).
I'm running a little low on disk space too, but I think I can move things around to fix that.
I'm debating whether I should upgrade to a newer Mac OS X version (instead of the really old Mac OS X Server 1.2) after I put in the new RAM.
Update: Disabling spamassassin (and perl just to be safe) on the server appears to have fixed the problem (for now). Hopefully I'll have everything upgraded and working again on Thursday. [And yes, I do realize that no one cares ;-)] | Friday, July 5th, 2002 | 11:33 pm |
Geek out.
email statistics for the last month:
14981 messages (or 499/day -- down from my all time high of near 3,000/day).
1479 were CVS commit emails for Darwin and OpenDarwin 389 were duplicates 2005 were spam messages caught by spamassassin 3933 were spam/abuse reports sent to my work email address (which shouldn't get these reports, but people are stupid)
Which leaves 7175 actual messages (or 239/day).
That is all. | 1:15 am |
Somehow I lost 5lbs. while I was at Summer Nationals.

too much email to read ... | Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 | 11:28 pm |
The real problem is the lack of hope, the despair. It kind of sneaks up on me when I'm being stupid and feeling sorry for myself. I had all these plans for what I was going to do, and I haven't really done any of them (and I'm afraid that I might not do them, and I'm not sure what that means). It's stupid too. I sometimes catch myself feeling hopeless because I'm extrapolating recent events (days, weeks, months) in which things don't happen onto the rest of my life. I know that that cannot be accurate, because the events that I want to have happen aren't really recurring things (more like once-in-a-life things), and so there's no way to really use what _has_ been happening to determine what _will_ (or might) happen. My ego wants someone to be physically attracted to me. What I really want, though, is for someone to want to spend the rest of their life getting to know me better. (I suppose most people want that.) I wanted to have some real life talk to people time tonight, but I guess that that is not to be. Oh well. (I just re-read this, and it sounds a lot more depressing than I intended, but I'm not going to re-write it. :) ) Current Mood: thoughtfulCurrent Music: Suite No. 2 (C Minor) -- Air-Bach-J.S. Massive internet withdrawal. Summer Nationals was fun. I did a lot of loosing (as was expected) but also some winning (more than was expected). My DEs were great fun. I wish I could have that intense of a fencing experience more often. I watched the Div. II epee and foil finals as well (and I can't wait until I am that good and better). The other highlight of the trip was the waitress who flirted with me (of course, I realize that she only did it to get a bigger tip, and it worked, but I can _pretend_ that she was flirting with me, right? ok, so I can't let myself do that for more than about 1 second, but I can try.). It's really good to be back, though. If for no other reason that I can spend a few minutes by myself for the first time since I left (I need to retreat into my cave for thoughtful introspection sometimes). I think my problem is that even though I say that I'm an optimistic pessimist (someone who always expects the worst thing to happen because then he/she is always pleasantly surprised when things aren't anywhere as bad as he/she expects), I'm actually not. I seem to be constantly disappointed when my outlandish fantasies don't actually work out. I know rationally that they won't happen, but I seem unable to prevent myself from hoping that they do. Then when they don't happen, I'm crushed. [And yes, this is all about the constant fear of being alone, of feeling like I won't ever find someone who wants to be with me. Or the new twist on the fear, that I'll never fall in love with anyone who will return it.] Current Mood: lonelyCurrent Music: Agnus Dei (Adagio)-John Eliot Gardiner-Beethoven: Missa Solemnis | Friday, June 28th, 2002 | 1:11 pm |
I leave for Summer Nationals tomorrow.
I am very excited.
Sunday is Div. III Men's foil, then I have Monday off, and Tuesday is Div. II Men's foil. I fly back on Wednesday.
It should be fun :) | Thursday, June 27th, 2002 | 4:39 pm |
A thousand half-finished journal entries float around in my mind... But instead of attempting to write one, I think I'll let you listen to how I feel. (the song isn't finished, and I don't like parts of it, and it's actually supposed to be a Horn duet, but MIDI horns sound dumb). | Wednesday, June 26th, 2002 | 3:46 pm |
I realized I hadn't posted any of these (or taken any for that matter ...) ( Pictures of my cats ) | 2:09 pm |
I am never popular until I'm on a conference call... Every time I'm on one, though, someone tries to call me. |
