Work So, yesterday I got to try welding for the first time. I did MIG, Stick, and TIG welding. And apparently, I'm pretty good at it for a beginner. I welded two aluminum pieces at a 90 using TIG, and it looked pretty good. Later that day, one of the guys engraved my name on it, so it has become my desk name plate for my office. I get use of the lab equipment for my own personal projects, on my own time. Even take one home for the weekend, if needed. I'll have to get working on some of my project ideas. :) About the only thing in my office is my clock, ATM. Current Mood: happy |

Woohoo! Part 2 On the way to go hook up somebody's DSL modem, I stopped by Walmart to pick up an ethernet card. As luck would have it, they actually had ONE DDR Ultramix Bundle available. I was looking everywhere on the Internet today and the only place I could find them was on Ebay. Red Octane didn't even have them anymore. I'm glad I waited for that, too... cause I only ended up paying $62. Woohoo! Current Mood: happy |

To E500 owners... Get your own " nipple preventer" for you laptop. Apparently compaq finally figure out this is a problem and have done something about it... starting this month. If you have the problem, they'll apparently replace your screen. I don't know if I quite agree with their reason for the problem, however. Just thought somebody might be interested. |

Gnome or KDE? I've got Debian Linux on my laptop now, and I'm wondering what people suggest for a window manager: Gnome, KDE or something else? If I had a paid account, I'd stick up a poll... oh well, I'm cheap. Current Mood: relaxed |

Amazing Last week Thursday at 8pm, I called Compaq, cause there were multiple, mostly minor, problems I had with my laptop. The screen hinges sucked, the mouse buttons weren't quite clicking properly, and one of the tabs to hold the keyboard down was busted. I got a person to talk to almost immediately (after the maze of button pressing). The guy who I talked to had a box sent out for the PC. I already had it the next morning, and after I called, per the instructions in the box, Airborne Express came back that afternoon to pick it up. They received the PC on Monday, and it was fixed and sent out Tuesday night. Had I been here Wednesday, and not in Milwaukee, I would have had it then. Anyhow, it came today. They replaced the entire LCD panel, the touchpad and the keyboard. It's almost like I have a new computer. :) They put long rubber pads running the length of the keyboard on each side of the mousepad. I'm assuming this is so the LCD panel doesn't get the "nipples" that mine and all the other e500's got. If you have/had an e500, you know what I'm talking about. Oh, and since my computer is still under warranty until the end of July, the entire process was free. :) Having the problems fixed within a week of calling them in is very impressive. Now... to reformat 98SE and put Debian on it. (I gave it to them blank, and didn't care if they wasted time reimaging it.) Current Mood: impressed |

Why the hell do paths related to Firebird/Thunderbird almost always show up as
C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\%filename%
and not as
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firebird\%filename%\ ????
It's extremely annoying!! |

Thunderbird Palm Address Sync Extension Aaargh! I've tried installing this stupid thing like five times! It's listed in the hotsync program, so apparently it's installed... but when I press the Sync button, my addresses aren't synced. DOH! Update: Many problems existed... I think the primary one was that the crap was installed in the MozillaFirebird directory (MOZILL~1) rather than the MozillaThunderbird directory (MOZILL~2). Stupid Mozilla with 8.3 filenames. And, it decided to use the temporary extracted files instead of the ones in the T-bird directory... wtf?! Anyhow, I got it to work... YAY! Current Mood: infuriated |

Big Ass Monitor, Part II After getting an new desk from my grandfather, I decided that I have a place for the monitor. Unfortunately, it only allows 60hz at 1280x1024, so I'm running at my previous 1152x864 @72hz :/ ( Monitor next to PC ) |

NEC MultiSync 5D My uncle dropped off an 'ancient' 21" monitor at my house yesterday that has a max resoution of 1280x1024. The thing was made in December '91. It's so old that it has a curvature like TVs made in the 80s. I'd hook it up to my desktop, but the thing is so damn big and heavy, that I think my desk would collapse if I tried to put the monitor on it. I can barely pick the damn thing up. I've taken some pictures and I'll put them online as soon as I can get to Defiant. Apparently MSOE is still having Net problems. ( Update: Pictures uploaded ) |

Tripping the Rift I recently found out that the 3d animation short, Tripping the Rift will have a series on Sci Fi early next year, starring Stephen Root as the voice of Chode. For those that don't remember it, this is the big purple guy against the "faggot clown" with a lightsaber. Hopefully the series is as good as the short. |

An exerpt from How Not to Program in C++: The UNIX command true does nothing. Actually the first version of the program was a 0 line batch file (UNIX calls them shell scripts). Over the years various pieces of source control nonsense and other junk were added to it, until the 0 line program grew till it looked like: #! /bin/sh # # @(#)true.sh 1.5 88/02/07 SMI; from UCB # exit 0 The 1.5 is a version number. It means that they had to go through four previous versions of the program before they came up with this one. Why they had to reinvent a null program four times is beyond me. |

Flash Ads Suck! The Flash ads have pissed me off for the last time! I found a script on the internet that moves the plugin so Mozilla can't find it. So now I just enable it for Homestar, and disable it afterwards... yeah, it's probably more work than necessary, but the killing of my CPU from stupid, retarded ads was driving me nuts... I don't care about ads, just ones that make Mozilla unusable.
Ad sites should be obliterated! Especially Flash ones! |
