"Sorry, gleffler doesn't have enough friends for good drama!"
the hell?
I have like 80-something of you lot :(
now I'm angry. I expected drama.
Oh well. Time for work!
Hurrrrrrr, I renamed :X
I feel so lethargic! roy said they wanted to play D&D; but they changed their mind :-(.
Oh yeah. mom & dad was totally unfair to me the other day and now I'm grounded :-(.
Oh and yesterday at work sucked.
Hey and know what? I was supposed to get together with people Tuesday but I don't want to anymore. I'm so tired of seeing the same people.
This entry automatically generated by the LJ Drama Generator!
Jeez, roy, why don't you want to play D&D; with me? :(

I just defriended a bunch of people. Pursuant to the disclaimer on my Userinfo, please don't take it personally. I just was finding my friends page impossibly lengthy and didn't really feel too awfully close to everyone anymore.
If you still want to read my entries, that's fine by me. Lemme know and I'll add you back, but fair warning that you won't be on my DV and I probably won't read your entries.
I deleted some people from my default view but left them on my flist because I know you read my entries (from recent comments or something.)
You can see which filters you're on by visiting here.

In other news, ULM is sooooo neat. eeeeeeeeeeee.
I'll post more about it later.

I am staying up until 0500 tonight to prepare myself for two nights of night cashiering (tomorrow and Thursday, from 2200-0600.) What should I do to keep myself occupied?
I can't play Donkey Konga, as the parents are asleep (which reminds me. "The haul" post needs to be made.) I could play random emulation games on the xbox? I dunno. I've already tackled the board and dusted off some of my privs, and I do still remember how to do most of the stuff, it just took a few seconds of looking last night, heh.
In true LiveJournal fashion, I present to you, the poll. What should I do to keep myself occupied until 5, when I begin my irregular sleep pattern?

Merry Christmas and various other holidays. I hope you all have a wonderful, safe, season and that you don't do anything that would cause death or dismemberment.
I'm hoping to hear back from ULM soon, and will be sure to let you know what happens, but until then, I'm just going to take a few days off to celebrate, relax, and enjoy the holiday. I might do a little support again too, so don't be surprised if you see me sneaking in. :)

I got the SpongeBob soundtrack CD from my sekrit bunneh today! :D
I've already ripped it to my iPod and have just been listening to it on loop for a while, hehehe. I love me some SpongeBob. Especially the music, it's definitely the best cartoon music (although Family Guy has good music too. It's a toss-up.)

I am absolutely amazed at this.
The Kroger store here (and everywhere, I believe) has unionized labor, including cashiers, etc. - everyone but management.
Union dues are between $5 and $9 a week (roughly), so between $260 and $470 (again roughly) per year. For this, union members supposedly receive "enhanced benefits", "better pay through collective bargaining", "protection from firing", and various other "miscellaneous services".
- enhanced benefits - Target employees get substantially better benefits, and all employees (with 6 months of service) are eligible for the benefits, not just full-time employees with at least 1 year of seniority.
- better pay - Kroger employees are some of the lowest-paid in retail. Starting pay is set by the union at $6.20 an hour, and to override that (in either direction) requires a special variance being voted on by other union members. I don't want "the union" deciding my paycheck, tyvm, I'd rather have my boss do it.
- protection from firing - they may actually provide this, for all I know.
What's the best "miscellaneous service" they provide?
Spending over 20% of their members dues on salaries for themselves, and spending under 10% on things that directly benefit the membership in any way.
Where's the rest go? "Union overhead and administration."
WHAT. THE. FUCK? And people claim these dinosaur organizations are necessary? To do what, pray tell? Act as reverse Robin Hood? It steams me to no end to know what union dues actually pay for, and I'm appalled at the fact that people have to actually pay for this shit.
Don't believe any of my numbers, by the way? Check them yourself - This is the 2003 operating statement as filed by the Louisville chapter of the "United Food and Commercial Workers, AFL-CIO". Where everyone's money is going is right there in black-and-white.
What got me started on this? An interview at Kroger, in case Target falls through. I'd worked there before, so it was pretty much a given anyway, but the union was brought up as a necessary expense, and I started thinking about how I never found out what they actually *do*, well now I know. They also don't force you to join the union, no sir. You can not join if you so choose.
You just still have to pay union dues.
(They rename it to a 'collective bargaining fee', but it's the exact same amount as union dues and gets you none of the imaginary benefits. Sign me right up!)

I'm sure you've all read or heard this before. Well, <petulant> I DON'T CARE.<petulant>
( My thoughts on tipping. I'm Mr.Pink. )
Yes, I hate it. Do I still do it? Well, yeah, of course. I don't want to feel SOCIETAL PRESSURE to "not be a cheapskate" and so I subsidize the wages of these folks. Nobody gives me a bonus when I help them answer calls well. I don't expect 20% on top of IT's consulting fee if I come fix your computer. I do a lot more work than bringing out a plate of food and putting it on the table and refilling your soda.
No, I don't like tipping. NOT BITTER, though. Promise.
