Touching base

Well it's been an incredibly long time since I visited LJ land.
I was inspired to touch base after recieving an email today from someone who wanted me to give them my account as they were after the username. Sorry to that person but I'm keen to hang on to it, even though it's not actively in use at the moment. It would have to be quite a large sum of money for me to even consider giving it up. Plus I've got history here.

So what have I been up to?
I've made a career change into family medicine which is going well. My family are good. Kids are growing up fast (though we're all a little sick at the moment). Doing my best to be healthy, wealthy and wise - joined the gym which I'm loving, reading lots of books, going to church more regularly. Not doing too well with the wealthy part but it'll come in time. I'm not on the net very often anymore but I have been working on an alternative project elsewhere - more of a blog type thing than a diary. If you're an old friend of mine and you want to know about that send me an email and I might let you know about it. I still check this email every week or two so I will get it.

Anyway I'll update again soon. Might be time to restart this old LJ again.

Too long away

Hi all. Hope all my ole LJ friends are doing well.
As you may be able to tell I haven't been around here very much lately (over a month between posts - yikes!) but you may also be able to guess the reasons why Read more... )

I know I rarely update here anymore but I've got some great news!

We had our second son born the other day, his name is Luke.
He's doing well and came home with his mummy today. Big brother Owen is very proud is his new little baby.

I'll post some photos when I get the chance.

Hey it's me
been really busy in my new job
working all kinds of horrible hours
I hate shiftwork
however I don't mind the job - it's a bit of a change from all the things I've been doing over the last few years, plus most of the people seem pretty nice at this hospital
otherwise things aren't too bad
not much is new

looks like another patient to be seen to
no rest for the wicked
see you again soon
*sighs*

Quick hello to LJ-land to mention a good album, then back to real life land again....

Just discovered this album, "Fallen" by Evanescence the other day. I heard it playing while having my hair cut and asked the hairdresser what it was.
It's a brilliant album. I got it straight away and have had it going in my car ever since. I love the style of music (ie heavy guitars, strings and haunting female vocals) and the lyrics really speak to me as well. If you haven't heard this band I'd encourage you to check them out.

I often feel like this is me....

Read this quote today, and I can often relate to the way he feels :

"Up to the age of 30 or beyond it, poetry of many kinds . . . gave me great pleasure, and even as a schoolboy I took intense delight in Shakespeare . . . formerly pictures gave me considerable, and music very great, delight. But now for many years I cannot endure to read a line of poetry: I have tried to read Shakespeare, and found it so intolerably dull that it nauseated me. I have also lost any taste for pictures or music . . . I retain some taste for fine scenery, but it does not cause me the exquisite delight which it formerly did . . . My mind seems to have become a kind of machine for grinding general laws out of large collections of facts, but why this should have caused the atrophy of that part of the brain alone, on which the higher tastes depend, I cannot conceive . . The loss of these tastes is a loss of happiness, and may possibly be injurious to the intellect, and more probably to the moral character, by enfeebling the emotional part of our nature." CHARLES DARWIN

Why is it that I'm not even 30, and yet I can still relate to this 'emotional enfeebling' and 'atrophy of the higher tastes'? I feel like so much of my life has no depth to it.

Quick update to let everyone know I'm alive and well.
Started studying today for my Obs & Gynae exams in a couple of months. I bought myself a new textbook and read the first couple of chapters (sure they were very small chapters but it's a start at least) I was planning on starting yesterday but got distracted by the fact that I now have broadband again - yay! I managed to get the phone line here changed off a RIM onto a decent copper line and now have a 256k ADSL connection once more - I'm already tempted to upgrade to 512 again though... :)

Had a good day yesterday - went out shopping in the afternoon and bought some stuff (new Harry Potter book for Jenni - I suppose I'll read it when I finally finish the Wheel of Time; Bear in The Big Blue House CDs for the boy) and then went to Freo and had a nice dinner and some wine before a relaxing evening in front of the TV.

As you may know I'm not a big fan of LJ quizzes but as an avid Coke drinker I couldn't resist this one...

Coca-Cola
YOU ARE THE REAL THING!!! Coca-Cola. I like you the
best. You are very yummy. Many, many people
would love to drink you. You are very addictive
and when people meet you, they don't want to
leave. Most likely, you are very charismatic.

What type of coke are you?

Anyway that's enough for me - my cough medication is really starting to kick in and make me groggy so I'm off to bed. Still coughing though :[

Grrr. I can't sleep cos I'm coughing too much.
And I had to get up cos I was worried I'd wake Jenni with my coughing.
So here I am at 11:52pm - tired and grumpy :(

After a slow week this weekend has flown by way too fast. Isn't that always the way?
Anyway I'm planning on a relaxing afternoon. I'm sitting in front of the TV at the moment with my laptop, watching a bit of Aussie Rules Footy - my team the West Coast Eagles are creaming Brisbane, the best team in the league, so it's very enjoyable. I rarely watch football any more so it's nice to catch a bit once in a while. Might be going to a game with my brother in a few weeks time.

Went to church this morning - it was a new church for us, quite enjoyable, though the message was a bit boring. Anyway I liked it so much that we might even go back tonight - the message tonight is "What would Jesus say about the Simpsons?" which could be quite interesting. I only hope the Big guy comes out in favour of the Simpsons cos I'm not planning on stopping watching it - lol :P

Yay the Eagles won the footy! Time to switch off the telly and turn on my MP3s ... ooh cool song ;)

Yay for me! I fixed my car stereo. I have no idea why a blown fuse for the cigarette lighter should stop my stereo from working but removing that fuse fixed the problem (the audio fuse was fine - go figure?)

Anyway after a week of driving with no music, or listening through crappy earphones, now I can finally listen to my CDs again. Which is a good thing considering the amount of CDs I've been buying lately. Got Elton John's classic "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album this morning and a Jazz CD, plus a new 32 CD wallet.

It almost seems a shame that it's not until Monday that I'll be driving my car to work again. Almost...

Bored #2

No posts on my friends list in 2 hours
No one on ICQ all night
Nothing on TV now (did watch ER but that's getting a bit stale, now I'm stuck watching Big Brother for the first time this year, and I must say the quality has deteriorated even further, not that it was all that high brow to begin with)

So unless someone comes online and messages me in the next 16 minutes, I'm gonna head to bed (and that's a threat)

Bored

Ok, Now I'm officially bored.
I've been at work for 1 hr, 12 minutes and have run out of things to do.
Sure I could study or watch crap on TV or read my novel (book 6 of wheel of time - I'm really starting to get a bit bogged down now - how many descriptions of clothing does one book need??) but I can't be bothered.

So I've surfed around LJ, added a few interesting people - if that's one of you, and you are wondering who this odd [info]doc person is, well it's me - Hi, nice to meet you! Feel free to add me back if you want, or not. I can't guarantee the most riveting LJ on the planet though.

Listening to the Metallica album, and it is growing on me. I really wish my card stereo was working though. I can't handle driving 2 hours a day with no music. I've been using my MP3 player in the car a bit but I don't really like driving with earphones, plus they irritate my ears after a while. I need music, and I need it loud!

Current Music: Metallica - Shoot Me Again

I'm sick today.
Well actually I was sick yesterday,
I was feeling nauseous and lightheaded and weak and I threw up everywhere at work, thus earning myself a lot of sympathy points from the other docs. But I was okay by the afternoon after struggling through my morning clinic (had a nice med student to help me out)

So this morning I'm lysing in bed and its 0630 and my alarm goes off to the now boring refrain of Alex Lloyd's "Amazing" (I awake to that every morning - it's track 1 on the CD I have in my clock radio - long overdue for a change) And anyway my alarm goes off and it's so nice in bed and I remember how sick I was yesterday at work and so I decide to be sick again today (even though at the time I was feeling fine) This is really unlike me to pull a sickie like that, and I guess it's come back to bite me since now I'm feeling lightheaded and nauseous again. Looks like there is justice in this universe after all...

Well we ended up going and seeing the Matrix Reloaded last night with some friends and all in all I enjoyed it.

For those of you who haven't seen it make sure you sit through the entire closing credits before leaving as there's a pretty cool teaser trailer for 'Matrix Revolutions' at the very end...

To which race of Middle Earth do you belong?
brought to you by Quizilla

Happy with the result, but of all the people I've seen who've done this quiz I haven't seen anyone thus far whose not Numenorean.

In terms of my own fantasy reading at the moment, I've just started book 5 of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, which I am still enjoying immensely. Several different people have told me that it gets less good as the books go on though so I'm dreading when that happens. It will be a shame if such good beginnings turn into a quagmire.

Anyway that's 2 posts so far today and I'm still supposed to be on my "LJ vacation" so I'd better leave it at that.

It's a boy!

Here's some 3D pictures of our next little boy!! We had the ultrasound yesterday after spending 2 hours in traffic getting there. We went to a place in Subiaco which is the first in Perth to offer the 3D scan. Not only does he look cute, but everything is perfectly healthy as well :)

Jenni's 20 weeks pregnant now and he'll be due in the first week of October...

It can take a little while looking to work out what you're looking at but once you get it it's pretty cool - kinda like those magic eye pictures..

Cool hey!!

Hi, just reminding y'all that I'm still alive, and well.
Had a good weekend - worked but it wasn't too busy. Watched Apocalypse Now Redux on Saturday at work on my laptop - I've never seen that movie before but it was amazing. After one viewing it's now already up among my all time favourites. I'll have to get the DVD sometime for my collection.
Otherwise I've been well - spending too much time bidding on ebay during the times I am online, but I've been doing fairly good in keeping away from the computer and getting more productive things done (still not much study though yet..) Had a good time out shopping with Jenni and the boy today, and a very pleasant evening with Jenni last night..

Anyway that's all from me for now, just saying Hi, haven't had time to check my friends list and I won't cos my laptop battery is gonna die any sec! Cya.
