Commentary | Well,
we were a bit distracted this semester. SVN started up their first
(at least in a while) live show, called Pirate TV. Every Thursday
night, the SVN folks would come up with about 10 minutes of material,
and try to wing about another 20 minutes with call-ins and mindless
chatter. The Young Pups hosted more than a few episodes of PTV this
semester, and it did take away from the production of our second episode
a bit. Two of the eight skits in this episode were just edited directly
from tape of Pirate TV. I avoided this episode for a good long time, but when I watch it now I'm not nearly as annoyed. The intro is easily the most bizarre we ever did, and the Foreign Skit always amuses me. All in all, I don't think I give this episode enough credit. It's short, but there are some good bits in it. Give it a watch if you've caught some of the others... |

Intro/YPCEC Winner |
I think this was our most bizarre intro... Attempts at wierd camera effects, and strange space music in the background. After Ed and I are done setting it up, the Young Pups award the prize to the winner of the Young Pups Cinematographic Error Challenge. And Ed is Just A Head. |
Where In The World Is Charmin San Francisco? |
The kids have tracked her down, and confront their nemesis, Charmin San Francisco. But she doesn't give up without a fight. We used more fake blood in this skit than in any other, bar none. Unfortunately, we never really got to use a shot that showed exactly how soaked Bob was. At least we got to use one in the outtakes at the end of the show. |
Tribute To Bob's Hair |
Bob has a job interview, so he is forced to cut his long lustrous glowing Pantene hair. We remember the good times Bob had with his hair to the tune of "Yesterday". This skit was originally used on Pirate TV, SVN's live show on Thursday nights. But since we were short on original material, we put this one in the show. |
Dead Boy |
Ed likes to pretend to be dead. Comedy ensues. Sort of. It set up
"Deader Boy" in show 3, so I guess some good came of it.
The bloody vomit that Ed coughs up is Thousand Island dressing with a lot of red food coloring in it if I remember correctly. Dis-gusting. |
Action Figure Theatre |
Another skit lifted from the Pirate TV Archives. Action Figure Theatre was a staple of Pirate TV, and this was one of the first, if not the first. Star Trek meets Aliens meets Reservoir Dogs. The Mexican Standoff is the best way to end any skit. |
Mentos Commercial |
We parodied Mentos commercials before it was cool. OK, I guess it was never cool, but I thought this was fairly straight and to the point. Worth it if only for Ed's powerful acting in conveying that he is too busy to move his car and let Eden out. And for the line, "Mentos: The Reaper of Souls." |
Foreign Skit |
So we had the great idea to overdub skits from the first show with
foreign translations with the premise that our show is so popular
that it is syndicated worldwide. Two of the skits have at least attempts
at actual translations, but the French version of "X-Schlager"
is nothing but whatever french concepts we can come up with. "Maurice
Chevalier", "Parlez-vous Maginot Francais?" But I think the beauty of this skit is the set-up, with me narrating and Ed as a soul-stealing disembodied head. We didn't use the disembodied head effect nearly enough. One episode of Pirate TV had an excellent appearance by the Disembodied Head, but we didn't tape it. Damn. Disembodied heads are cool. |
Dancing |
We're all dancing to "Linus and Lucy" from Peanuts. Then we beat up Bob. Not much of a skit really, but a nice silly/violent way to end the show. |
