Holy Shit
Director plans 'Pretty In Pink' sequel
Saturday, April 2 2005, 15:27 BST -- by Daniel Kilkelly

Director John Hughes has announced that classic '80s movie Pretty In Pink is to get a sequel.

The teen film followed high school student Andie, who developed a crush on the school's new guy, while her friend Duckie, who secretly loves Andie, is forced to step aside.

The sequel, which is planned for a 2006 release, will show fans what has changed for the characters now that their high school days are over. The movie's original stars - Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy and John Cryer - have all agreed to appear.

The Lollapalooza debate
As you may or may not know, Lollapalooza is being run this year as a 2-day, Chicago-only festival. They promise 70 bands on 5 stages over 2 days. The thing is, they're going to have (for one week only) a very cheap $35 two-day pass. If the lineup is at all good, that's an amazing deal. However, they aren't announcing the lineup until AFTER the cheap passes are gone. So, the question is, what do I do?

Gaaaaaaa!
I haven't even had the damn interview yet and I'm already just really nervous and depressed about the whole thing.

And do me a favor and spare me the "you'll do just fine." I appreciate the fact that people think so, but, trust me, you've never seen how badly I choke during interviews, and how hard it is for me to promote myself at all. The only reason I even got an interview is because of Marisa's massive help with my resume and cover letter. Honestly, I'm really not even sure why I bothered, I am not getting this job.

Current Mood: depressed

Good news?
I have a phone interview tomorrow for this. I'm very nervous, since I'm not good on the phone. Or in interviews, for that matter.

Show Update
I think in general, I'm discovering that I tend not to have the time, money, or desire to see bands I've already seen before (with a few notable exceptions). That said, here's my show update for April/May, with comments.

Ash - 4/8, The Metro - Marisa and I were totally gonna go to this one, but we're going to be in Florida. Oops.

The Shins - 4/14, Congress Theater - Marisa and I were totally gonna go to this one, but it sold out before I even knew about it. Oops.

Elvis Costello and the Imposters - 4/17, Auditorium Theatre - I really love Elvis, but I'm resigned to the fact that I'll never see him. Marisa won't ever go, and he's a lot of money, and I just don't have the desire to go myself.

Weezer - 5/4, Aragon - Same reasons as usual. Weekday, too much, seen them before, too many emo kids.

Garbage - 5/4, Metro - Didn't even know about the show until it was already sold out. Tickets are too expensive, anyway.

Built To Spill - 5/7, 5/8, Metro - Marisa and I are vaguelly considering this, but it's a bit much. $10 less a ticket and we'd be there.

U2 - A million fucking times, United Center - Marisa's never seen U2 (I saw them on Popmart) and would like to, but we're not rich, we can't justify a $100 (minimum) night out.

Snow Patrol - 5/12, The Vic - I'm debating this one. I loved the show I saw of them (at the Empty Bottle), but now it would probably be all goddamn emo kids, and it's a weeknight, so I dunno. I've missed them like the last 5 times, should I miss them again? Thoughts?

Rilo Kiley - 5/16, Metro - Considering that they're probably my current favorite band, this is the one show here that I'm going to for sure, even though it's a weeknight and I'm going alone. Now to go buy tickets before it sells out...

Edit - On ticketmaster, a $15 ticket becomes $26.79 after service charges. No fucking way. Anybody going by the Metro any time soon want to pick me up a ticket?

And I'm going to the next Reputation show, too, since I was lame and skipped the last one...

Oh, and, go Illini!

Grr.
I know I say this a lot. However, I'm not sure I've ever been more disgusted with this country than I am right now.

Deerfield, land of the empty restaurants
In the past year or so, 5 restaurants have closed in about a 2 block radius of my work, and none of them have been replaced. And they aren't minor restaurants, either - Applebee's, Chili's, On The Border, Macaroni Grill, and now Zippy's (a small local chain). The crazy part is that they were all really busy during lunch. The only thing I can think of is that they were dead during dinner, since this is a pretty officy area (but it's a very nice area, too). I'm not sure why I'm ranting about this, exactly, except to say "What The Fuck?" Oddly, the Baja Fresh here HASN'T closed, despite every other one I know closing. It's a wacky wacky world (and annoying, too, because I liked most of those places!)

Filter/Urban Outfitters Tsunami cd
So, I totally have to buy this, right? And I shouldn't even feel guilty about it, because it's totally for a good cause, right?

It's that time again!
What time is that? Time for me to nicely ask any paid members to make me feeds! Yay feeds! There's a bunch, so don't worry if you don't want to do it, but if you do, I'll like you lots. Even if you are Jeff.

Mostly White Sox blogs today, but one from an old friend of many of us...

Sloan news...
...mainly for [info]schmarian if she hasn't seen it, although I can't imagine that, since she's the bestest Sloan fan ever

More or less, singles disc (with two new songs and a DVD) soon, and (to me, even more exciting!)(and I wish every band would do this!) 2 disc reissues of all the albums except Action Pact starting this summer. Full details at http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1497796/20050304/sloan.jhtml?headlines=true

Now to sell the albums being reissued...

Stuff
1. Damn Ohio State. Damn them!

2. New Belle and Sebastian release May 23rd (this news was apparently posted to ONE site in late Feb and I never saw it until now). It's called ‘Push Barman To Open Old Wounds’ and it's a double cd with 25 tracks, all the ep releases from 'Dog on Wheels' to 'I'm Waking Up To Us'. To a person like me, it's amazingly pointless (although I know I'll end up picking it up anyway), but if you like B&S; at all and don't have these tracks, you NEED this. Press Release: http://www.angloplugging.co.uk/viewPressRelease.cfm?pressReleaseID=975

I'm much more looking forward to their other promised release, which will contain all the BBC sessions from the same period. News to come.

3. In news to make [info]mosca happy, I've watched the first three episodes of Firefly. They're not bad, it's growing on me. I have a hunch we'll be getting more Alias today, though, so Firefly viewing might go on the backburner.

4. Marisa is off today, and it's Casmiar Pulaski day, and my primary e-mail buddy is leaving work early, so I'm even more bored than usual today (at least until 2, when there's a Sox game on (and it's on tv, too! I should have my wife tape it!)). Anyway, if you are, too, reply.

Today's debate
I have the limited edition UK version of "Meltdown" by Ash. This version includes a bonus live disc with the entire album done live, plus three other live songs. The new US version of "Meltdown" doesn't have this bonus disc, but it has 3 b-sides on the album itself, and a bonus DVD with with a five videos, a making-of video, and a mini documentary.

I can't afford to have both. So, which do I want? DVDs don't typically impress me much, but bonus tracks do. There's a lot more overall tracks on the UK version, but they're live and don't sound much different than most of the album versions, while the US version has 3 actual songs on it that I don't have. What to do?

It's my lucky day!
I just won a free breakfast or lunch for 10 from the Corner Bakery. It's exciting. I knew getting those buisness cards would come in handy! Anybody else ever win anything from dropping buisness cards?
