surveilancecamera.jpg
The St. Louis Police Department has announced its intentions to install “spies in the skies” over crowds at Fair St. Louis this year. These are sophisticated remote controlled cameras. The technology was first used to violate the rights of those attending St. Louis Mardi Gras. The cameras will be mounted high on utility poles around the event and controlled wirelessly from vehicles where the images will be transmitted.

Fighting Racism in Cape Girardeau,Mo permalink

racialprofiling.gif
In July 2004, I lost my mother, my best friend to blatant discrimination and negligence from a very oppressed and racist hospital. After several attempts of trying to resolve this matter peacefully with the hospital, all efforts where ignored. So on March 26,2005 my family along with the National Alliance of Black Panthers gathered in front of St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo to protest in a peaceful manner. We wanted to shed light on the past events of racism and un-fair treatment of African Americans, as well as Minority Medicaid recipients.

A call to action to converge upon the small racist town of Cape Girardeau on June 25, 2005 at the St. Francis Medical Center located at 211 St. Francis Dr. 11:00am for a protest against their discriminatory practices against Blacks and people on medicare. Calling all activists, concerned citizens and those people who will stand against racism and oppression in the state of Missouri.

Free Press Int'l Takes Heat for Slighting Local Affairs permalink

The Coalition Against Police Crimes and Repression (CAPCR), in St. Louis, has been working to support the establishment of a Civilian Review Board in the City of St. Louis. The proposed Board would be formed as an independent Civilian Oversight mechanism that would primarily allow for neutral investigation of complaints against the Police.

Free Press, a media reform group, has recently descended on the city of St. Louis with its second National Conference on Media Reform. Residents and activists in St. Louis have asked the conference to support the idea of a citizen oversight board to help diminish police brutality.

Indymedia activists organize for policy change permalink

independentforlife.jpg

From the 10th anniversary edition of The Confluence: At the heart of the movement to transform our media are many organizations with roots in Indymedia, the global, decentralized network of alternative media that began with the Seattle WTO protests in 1999. Some of these organizations spun off from particular Independent Media Centers while others hired individuals with IMC experience. But all share Indymedia’s ethics of grassroots organizing and direct participation in the decisions that affect our media.

STLIMC Dot Org is Back! permalink

The website is back!

As our most dedicated readers are aware, the St. Louis Indy Media Center website has been down for some time. The server is finally in its new home in Seattle, which was our biggest hurdle to get over. A new site design is established and a new IMC application is installed, both of which should make things easier to navigate and to publish.

Email imc-stlouis (at) lists.indymedia.org if you have any questions about the site or suggestions.
