Associate Production Support Analyst
As an Associate Production Support Analyst for the News Production team you provide the technical and organizational proficiency to take the Newsroom Operations Group to the next level.  Specific responsibilities include monitoring and managing internal and external web and video servers and coupled systems, participating in code releases and system upgrades, troubleshooting and fixing site and publishing tool related problems, analyzing all incoming and outgoing customer and partner content related concerns, and providing feedback on future site and tool features.

Requires BA/BS degree or AA degree in Computer Science or equivalent, and 1-2 years relevant experience.  Fluent with standard concepts, procedures and practices of position.  The successful candidate will combine strong troubleshooting skills and sound time management skills with consistent displays of accountability and teamwork.  Technical requirements include a strong knowledge of Windows (2000 and 2003) architecture, HTML, XML and a strong understanding of the Internet.  Other requirements include outstanding written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage conflict, and being flexible with work schedules.  The ideal candidate will thrive in fast-paced and high pressure situations and possess a passion for improving processes and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

Software Development Engineer In Test
Primary responsibility is to assure quality projects and processes designed and developed by peer Program Management and Development teams.  This includes reviewing functional and design specifications, creating test strategy documentation, articulating and implementing test cases, identifying and managing defects, working closely with developers to analyze and debug assorted code (C#, Jscript, ASP.NET, XML/XSL, etc.), driving broad testing efforts such as performance or security testing, developing automated tools / test code where needed and managing signoff criteria and product development process improvements. 

The successful candidates must show strong aptitude for testing / familiarity with web product development, good communications and technical skills, and collaboration.  Position requires working knowledge of web and XML technologies such as HTML/DHTML/CSS, C#, SQL, IIS, multiple browser types and configurations, XML/XSL/XSLT, scripting languages (ASP, VBScript, Jscript).  A minimum of a BS degree in computer science or related program and two years experience in a software development related field required.

Visual Concepts Producer
Do you have a vision of what online news could be? Can you take what’s in your head and express it pixel by pixel in Photoshop? Or better yet, build it in Flash? The #1 news website is looking for an innovative journalist/designer who can help us evolve the online medium.

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative visual concepts producer to work under limited supervision and with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.  Will contribute creative ideas for improving the usability and editorial content of MSNBC.com. Concepts may take several forms, including mock-ups, published experiments or working demos. Work directly with stakeholders from various departments, including editorial, marketing, technology and sales. Translate ideas into design concepts.  Evaluate and advocate the use of new technologies. Keep current on web trends, particularly those with application to journalism. May provide coaching and training to other employees.

BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in journalism or graphic communication is required, with a Master’s degree in journalism or graphic communication preferred.  Requires 5+ years in online editorial with an emphasis in editorial content, design and production.  The most successful candidates will have 5+ years experience with a top-tier online news organization; 5+ years of hands-on experience with Flash, Photoshop, HTML, XML, CSS and other web technologies; 2+ years experience in broadcast or print; comprehensive portfolio demonstrating innovative uses of technology and content.  Require an advanced knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Flash ActionScript; usability and user interface design; expert-level Flash and Photoshop user; experience with content management systems; demonstrated news judgment; multi-tasking; teamwork; verbal communication and collaboration.  Demonstrated writing, reporting, photography, video/audio editing abilities; experience gathering and interpreting usability data.  May be required to work weekends or extended shifts.

Multimedia Editor
We are seeking an experienced multimedia editor responsible for photo, video and audio editing in a fast-paced daily news environment, with opportunities for longer-term projects and original storytelling.  Key skills required include Flash production, Photoshop mastery and some Avid experience.  Must have 4+ years of newspaper, magazine or internet news experience as a multimedia producer, photo editor or photojournalist.  Must have a strong grounding in news ethics and judgment.  Previous internet news experience and a degree in journalism are strongly preferred.  Mastery of Adobe Photoshop and Flash is required, and experience with audio and non-linear video editing systems are strongly preferred.  May be required to work weekends and early or late hours as required.

Cover Producer
A talented writer/editor sought to help run the Cover of MSNBC.com as well as updating Section fronts, juggling multiple editorial tasks in a fast-paced news environment. Must be a goal-oriented self-starter with editing skills and the ability to quickly combine material from wire services, NBC News and MSNBC.com partners to produce in-depth news stories.  Collaborate with other teams, including multimedia, to enhance the Cover, section fronts and the top stories. Must demonstrate a flair for creative headline writing, an understanding of the need for a compelling mix of stories on the site and show familiarity with standard journalism policies and practices. Work as part of a team in a 7x24 newsroom and must be prepared to work weekends/overnight hours, often with minimal supervision.  This position is located in our Secaucus, NJ facility.

BA/BS degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience.  At least two years online journalism experience strongly preferred.

Product Manager
The MSNBC Product Manager position is focused on a number of core duties/ responsibilities within the MSNBC Business Development department.  Responsibilities include: generate revenue by providing unique and sellable Internet advertising opportunities utilizing companywide resources effectively and efficiently.  Work with MSNBC Editorial teams, as well as partner teams to develop compelling sales packages and materials, ultimately to support sales efforts.  Work with MSN Account Managers and Sales Planners on custom implementations required based on sold media plans and concepts.  Handle urgent ad implementation issues working with MSN and MSNBC Ops.  Manage closed/ pending deals, Provide revenue generation strategies, and trouble-shoot at risk accounts and opportunity gaps.  Manage vendors for promotional campaigns like sweepstakes and contests.  Develop close working relationships with MSN and NBC sales teams, MSNBC Field Sales Managers, Ad Agencies and clients to facilitate current and future revenue opportunities.  Assist in the planning, development and execution of annual revenue goals for assigned categories and verticals.

Requires a BA / BS in related field and 4-7+ years proven direct media sales or business development experience.  Previous experience in an internet environment and/or ad sales environment is preferred.  Extremely strong skills in project management and sales packaging/pricing. Proficient knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook along with the capacity to understand internal complex programs such as AdExpert and MSN Ad Reports.  Excellent relationship and time management skills.  Action oriented, results driven, able to function cooperatively within a complex sales organizational structure. Exceptional customer focus and confident communicator in phone, written and face-to-face settings. Ability to identify new sales opportunities, define the products to meet the account’s needs, and execute media packages to meet their revenue goals. Able to represent MSNBC with integrity and trustworthiness.

Web Developer 3
Works with Project Manager, test and development team members to implement solutions for small to medium projects in a web environment. Creates code design specs. Interprets XML Schema and codes XSLT to render web pages according to specs. Makes efficient use of CSS and DHTML and verifies that pages render correctly in specified browsers.  Applies client-side scripting for interactive elements.  Optimizes XSLT and scripting for maximum performance. Makes calls to Web Services. Debugs source code. Troubleshoots and resolves coding issues related to production system running on Windows Server 2003 (.NET SERVER), IIS, IE, and SQL Server.  3 plus years web development experience, 2 plus years in Windows client/server environment required.

Must have the ability to read and write scripting languages (ASP,VBScript/Javascript). Requires solid HTML/DHTML/CSS knowledge and 3 plus years of XML/XSL/XSLT experience. Should be very familiar with browser differences. Must have solid knowledge of general software development practices. Minimum of one year experience with C#, ASP.NET, Web Services, and Internet tools. Thorough understanding of Windows Server 2003 (.NET SERVER), and IIS 6.

Software Design Engineer
MSNBC is seeking a highly experienced, creative software development engineer with exceptional engineering, technical, and communication skills to be a member of the team that publishes the MSNBC.com news site. The successful candidate will work with project managers, developers, and testers to lead the development of current and future versions of our publishing platform. This will require an architect level of skill in designing and implementing large, scalable applications in a web environment. Candidate will own and drive architectural redesign as needed, create code design specs, debug code, troubleshoot and resolve coding issues related to a production system running on Windows 2003 .NET Server, IIS6, IE, and SQL Server.

The successful candidates should have strong object-oriented design, C# coding, and the architectural skills relevant to building a scalable, .Net data-driven web platform. Applicants must have a demonstrated track record of developing enterprise web applications based on the services architecture and writing quality code that is supportable, maintainable, and optimized for performance. Strong debugging and unit testing skills are also required. Applicants should have a minimum of 6 years of experience in designing, coding, and shipping products, and a full understanding of the product cycle model. Candidates should have experience working across all application tiers, should be fluent in using Visual Studio and understand the C# Class Design Guidelines. Candidates should be able to design and code to meet security and privacy requirements.  Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred. Knowledge of new technologies (Longhorn, Avalon, Yukon, etc) is highly desirable.
