Artist Relief Results

Jazz at Lincoln Center responded to the devastation of New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath by establishing the Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Fund. This Fund will benefit the musicians, music industry-related enterprises and other individuals and entities from the areas in Greater New Orleans who were impacted by the disaster. For more information please visit their website.

Arlo Guthrie feat. Willie Nelson. Benefit tickets on sale now!

On Saturday, December 17th, the Tipitina's Foundation is hosting a benefit concert with two of America's most legendary musicians: Arlo Guthrie and Willie Nelson. This performance represents the final leg of the Arlo Guthrie & Friends "City of New Orleans" music tour, which will raise money to buy instruments and professional music gear for New Orleans musicians. Starting in Chicago and ending in New Orleans, Arlo and his group of family and friends will take the famous train southbound and make stops along the way, culminating with a performance at Tipitina's, where his longtime friend Willie Nelson will join him.

The Guthrie Foundation and the Tipitina's Foundation are joining together with music instrument manufacturers to restore the music infrastructure in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. MusiCares, The Recording Academy's safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need, will help distribute "the gear" along with Tipitina's Foundation.

Tipitina's Foundation enters next phase of its recovery efforts

After 27 years of hosting Louisiana music icons on its stage, Tipitina's will now open its doors 11:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, as a Musician's Community Center. This facility, opening November 21st, offers New Orleans beloved musicians a venue to learn business skills and network with music and business professionals. The center offers:

* A music co-op office equipped with work stations providing high speed internet, fax and email access.

* Educational music programs for students: workshops, peer support, seminars and jam sessions.

* Meals for musicians.

* Limited Backline gear to be used for gigs in New Orleans on a per night basis.

* Resources and information on networking, gigs, grants, loans, housing and healthcare in conjunction with the New Orleans Musician's Clinic.

In line with its mission to rebuild the music culture of New Orleans, Tipitina's Foundation will host a weekly cultural celebration from 4-11pm every Sunday starting November 20th. From 4-8pm Bruce Daigrepont will resume his Cajun Fais Do Do, now in its 20th year. From 9-11pm Tipitina's will host its first ever Mardi Gras Indian practice led by Big Chief Monk Boudreaux.

Now more than ever, these cultural traditions must be kept alive.

New Orleans Artist Relief Effort

Until the recent devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the Tipitina's Foundation has devoted its efforts to uplifting the New Orleans music community through its Music Co-op Office, Instruments A-Comin' benefit concerts and the Tipitina's Internship Program. That mission has changed, as we now fight to save and rebuild that very community. We are currently finding musicians housing and instruments while we raise funds through donations and nationwide benefit concerts to meet the challenges facing us in the coming weeks and months. Tipitina's Uptown, 501 Napoleon Avenue, will open up as soon as we can return as a Musical Community Center with a Music Co-Op, as we all come together to preserve the spirit of New Orleans.
