TMZ has learned ... the L.A. County Sheriff's Department will investigate allegations that Oksana Grigorieva attempted to extort money from Mel Gibson.
Sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore tells TMZ, "Extortion allegations have been brought to our attention and we are certainly going to be looking at that."
TMZ broke the story ... Gibson's attorney, Blair Berk, made a formal presentation to Sheriff's deputies yesterday, alleging she and her team have evidence of extortion and that Oksana lied to authorities about various claims.
Sources connected with Gibson have told TMZ they have "hard proof" of extortion.
Sources say deputies will also be investigating the allegations that Oksana made false claims.
Oksana's rep was not available for comment.

TMZ has learned Michael Lohan is on his way over to Lynwood with a fresh stack of bills in his hands ... in the hopes he can put money in LiLo's jail account so she can buy essentials while she's behind bars.
Sources close to Lohan tell us Michael isn't just planning to drop off the cash and disappear ... we're told he is also planning to drop in on Lindsay during visiting hours this weekend.
Obviously, Lindsay won't be required to meet with her father ... so, there's a chance she could turn him away.

TMZ has learned Oksana Grigorieva claims Mel Gibson grabbed her son and threw him onto a table in a fit of rage, all over a cigarette. But this may be the only incident where there are other witnesses who can either support Oksana's claim of abuse or prove she's lying.
It happened at a party last year in Costa Rica. Sources connected to the case say Oksana's 12-year-old son, Alexander was playfully jumping up and down, trying to knock a cigarette out of Mel's mouth. Oksana claims Mel exploded by grabbing the boy and throwing him violently onto a table.
The issue came up during the mediation in May, when Mel and Oksana were trying to work out a custody arrangement and a financial package.
Sources say Oksana's people informed Mel's lawyers of the incident. Mel's lawyers investigated and came right back, claiming there were "numerous adults and children" who saw the incident and saw it very differently.
Mel's people claim the witnesses will say it was all just clowning around and Mel did not get physical with Alexander but rather the boy just accidentally fell as he was jumping for Mel's cigarette.
The reason this incident is so significant in the criminal investigation -- it's not just a "he said, she said." That translates into credibility, which is at the core of the case.

TMZ has learned Lindsay Lohan has found a friendly pharmacist to fill her prescriptions in the pokey.
Sources connected with the Lynwood Correctional Facility tell TMZ ... Lindsay's prescriptions were being processed yesterday and she will be allowed to take several drugs, including Adderall, a psychostimulant used to treat ADHD. She also has a prescription for Ambien.
It's pretty ironic ... friends of Lindsay, and Michael Lohan, tell TMZ it's the prescriptions that have gotten her into this mess in the first place. Nevertheless, doctors say the meds are justified and Lindsay will get her daily dose.

Even though Lindsay Lohan is banned from smoking cigarettes in jail, TMZ has learned she can still appease her insatiable oral fixation ... with all the munchies her 118 pound frame can handle.
Turns out there's a program called the Keefe Commissary Network Gift Pack Program -- which allows anyone with a couple bucks to buy copious amounts of belly-bursting junk food for the L.A. County inmate of their choosing.
We're told each inmate is allowed $135 worth of the KCNGPP's gut-bombing grub baskets per week -- and just to give you an idea of how much that'll get you, here's what comes in the $22.73 package:

-- Spam
-- Kit Kat Bar
-- Vanilla Creme Cookies (14 oz)

Sean Kingston is blasting accusations that he participated in the alleged sexual assault of a drunk woman earlier this month -- telling us he's "innocent."
TMZ spoke to Kingston on his way out of Industry nightclub last night ... and when we asked about the alleged incident, dude told us, "That's a rumor man."
As we first reported, Kingston was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a hotel room in Seattle earlier this month ... but cops determined the case was not credible.

Russia's sexiest spy won't get probed by an American porn studio after all -- we're told the 28-year-old she-Bond Anna Chapman has officially turned down a huge XXX movie deal.
As TMZ first reported, Vivid Entertainment president Steve Hirsch offered Chapman a potentially lucrative deal to star in one of Vivid's adult films -- but according to a rep for Vivid, Anna just ain't down with getting down on film.
According to the rep, Chapman's lawyer claims the Russian spy has "no interest in our offer or in adult films."
But Hirsch tells us it ain't over yet -- the offer's still on the table if Chapman ever changes her mind.

TMZ has obtained a mug shot of the man accused of stalking Jennifer Aniston ... but this photo of Jason Peyton was taken in 2008 after he was arrested for stalking someone else.
As we first reported, Peyton was arrested last week in L.A. for allegedly prowling around an area frequented by Aniston ... while packing a sharp object, a bag and a roll of duct tape.
But according to law enforcement, Peyton was also busted in 2008 in Pennsylvania for harassing a female neighbor. According to police docs from the 2008 case, Peyton told police, "You know that she loves me, her husband
rapes her, she needs my help."
Peyton was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity -- and was ordered to be hospitalized. It's unclear how long he remained under psychiatric care.
Now, Peyton is being held on a mandatory psychiatric hold for the Aniston incident. Once he's released, he must stay at least 100 yards away from everything and everyone associated with Jennifer Aniston.

A TV chef who barely survived Gordon Ramsay's kitchen is once again lucky to be alive ... after he was involved in a nasty hit-and-run crash that left the cook seriously banged up.
TMZ spoke with Chris Spradley -- one of the culinary competitors on Ramsay's upcoming show "MasterChef" -- who tells us dude was driving home from the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip last week when some dumbass in a minivan blew a stop sign ... and the two vehicles collided.
Spradley -- creator of a beer cheese soup that Chef Ramsay considers "the most disgusting f**king soup I've ever tasted in my life" -- suffered injuries to his ribs and ankle ... but nothing life threatening.
Law enforcement sources tell us the four passengers in the other vehicle were all intoxicated -- and they claim the driver of the van fled the scene. So far, no arrests have been made.

Lindsay Lohan is actually handling jail well, sources at Lynwood tell TMZ.
We're told she's "polite, compliant and responsive." She's not crying and is handling it well.
And there's good news for the newly-minted jailbird. A Sheriff's official tells us she will probably be released around August 1, after serving only 13 or 14 days. A lot better -- for her -- than 23 days behind bars and, even worse, without cigarettes.
