For the first time in six years, the Broncos have paid top-market price at a premium position. The Broncos and pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil agreed Wednesday on a five-year, $58.332 extension. On top of the $3.168 million salary Dumervil was already going to make this season, his contract stretches to six years and $61.5 million. He will receive $43.168 million of that money, guaranteed against injury, through the 2013 season. Considering the NFL labor uncertainty for the 2011 season, and the possibility Dumervil could have received the franchise tag in 2011-12, the Broncos came up big for Dumervil, who was big in 2009.. Teen heartthrob/singing sensation Justin Bieber will have his acting debut in the season premiere of "CSI," CBS announced today.

He'll play "a troubled teen who is faced with a terrible decision regarding his only brother—a decision that leads him into an explosive confrontation with the CSIs. It is the beginning of an emotional story that will conclude later in the season."

The older-skewing series on the older-skewing network clearly could benefit from the injection of a magic elixir of youth Bieber could bring if fans follow him from YouTube.. Read on …

A group of black Denver residents is backing Jon Goldin-DuBois in a state House race, selecting the white nonprofit adviser over the only black candidate running for the Colorado legislature. "This notion that the African-American community lines up behind a particular candidate, well, some of us believe Jon Goldin-DuBois is the best person," said Wil Alston, a consultant and former spokesman for Gov. Bill Ritter. He said today he has nothing against Angela Williams, a businesswoman who has own influential support in the black community, including former.. Read on …

Congratulations! You made it through the first night of The UMS! And was it as amazing as we'd promised? Yes. I know. Pretty great. Re: “Claims, income at odds; Gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes touts his business savvy, but his income has been below the poverty line at least twice,” July 21 news story. Should we believe The Post that Dan Maes — who, on a small salary, owns his own home in which his wife can be a stay-at-home mom — is unfit to govern for that reason? What better candidate can we have in this day of reckless spending and taking, than a man who is able to live frugally and raise a family as well? What private earnings or business experience did.. Back in the old days, when I first started exploring wine, I liked chardonnay. Then I grew tired of drinking buttered toast and I stopped drinking the stuff. Sometime after, surely because of my antipathy towards the heavily oaked style, wineries began bleeding the butterscotch from their chardonnays and trumpeting a new-old approach to the grape, one that involves little - or no - oak and produces a wine with a steelier spine. Less periphery-taking-center-stage, and more GRAPE. I liked the varietal again. I recently downed a bottle of 2008.. Read on …

The goal is to transform Afghanistan into a modern nation, fueled by a U.S.-led effort pouring $60 billion into bringing electricity, clean water, jobs, roads and education to this crippled country. But the results so far — or lack of them — threaten to do more harm than good. The reconstruction efforts have stalled and stumbled at many turns since the U.S. military arrived in 2001, undermining President Barack Obama's vow to deliver a safer, stable Afghanistan capable of stamping out the insurgency and keeping al-Qaida from re-establishing its bases here. Poppy fields thrive, with each harvest of illegal opium fattening the bankrolls of terrorists and.. Read on …

Chaparral football has been in the weight room preparing for the 2010 season every weekday since Nov. 16, 2009. That'd be three days after the Wolverines were eliminated from the Class 5A playoffs with a 21-13 loss to Columbine in the second round. OK, they've taken a break. "Two weeks," said defensive end Tommy Harris. The work was sparked partly by a week one date with two-time defending champion Mullen,.. Read on …

MIAMI -- Todd Helton is not going to Asheville after all. The plan was for him to begin a rehab assignment there, but Helton is still dealing with weakness in his legs related to his back injury. So Helton returned to Denver to continue working out. Whe he feels stronger, there's still a chance he will go on a brief rehab -- 5-6 at-bats as a DH. "I think the best the way to describe is this: He still not feeling strong enough. It's a weakness, not pain,'' manager Jim Tracy said today. "It has everything to do with strength factor.'' Tracy..
