Sunday Discussion: A CP3-Less NOLA
Well, it wasn't going to be anything else.
Let's add a twist to the normal Chris Paul talk that we've seen all week, though. So far, we've talked way too much about CP's potential destinations, the future of the NBA and super teams, and so on. Chris Paul, and Chris Paul alone, has driven traffic through the roof here on At the Hive, and presumably on other sites as well.
Let's say for a minute that we know that tomorrow, Chris Paul presents a list of teams he wants to be traded to. And let's say the Hornets agree that they don't want to start Monty Williams' and Dell Demps' New Orleans tenures with a disgruntled superstar. (For the record, I still think CP will stay, for at least the upcoming season).
Hornets on the Internets: Chris Paul and the Front Office Edition
As we enter the weekend, where the Chris Paul rumors will likely screech to a halt because journalists won't be working, the situation is strange. The rumors are getting more specific, but they're also becoming more contradictory. Let's hit the links:
The big news today is that ESPN's Chris Broussard is reporting that Chris Paul thinks that the Magic would be the best fit for him. Behold the weirdness:
The Orlando Magic have emerged as the top team on Paul's list of preferred destinations, replacing the New York Knicks, according to league sources.
While the Knicks are still high on Paul's list, he believes the Magic, with All-Star center Dwight Howard, would be a better fit. Paul also realizes Orlando has much more to offer New Orleans in a trade and therefore believes it is a more realistic destination than New York, according to the sources.
So... Chris is not only putting together lists of where he wants to go, but those lists are changing every other day? This sounds like a media strategy. It reminds me of when LeBron was leading up to his "Decision," and every other day there would be a new likely destination. Chicago, New Jersey, New York, then back to Cleveland, each day had a new landing spot for LeBron, according to those "league sources."
But wait, Chris is not a part of LeBron's marketing company?
Potential Chris Paul Destinations
I decided to do some research on where Chris Paul might be headed. Since I'm not intimately familiar with all the teams in the NBA, I decided to use the immense power of SBNation's vast network of experts. I checked every SBNation NBA site to see which teams think they could land Chris. The answer is: pretty much everybody.

Hornets on the Internets: Rookie Introductions Edition
I know all Hornets fans are atwitter about one thing: the official introduction of Craig Brackins and Quincy Pondexter. Okay, so it's not the biggest news right now, but it's not something that makes me feel nauseous and there's some pretty interesting stuff that came out of their introduction.
First, I recommend this video of the introduction. You get a nice feel for the preternatural calm of Monty Williams, and some mildly interesting anecdotes, like the time that Monty beat Craig Brackins in a one-on-one game.
But Craig disputes Monty's version of events. From the Times-Pic:
"Don't know what he's talking about," said Brackins, smiling Tuesday as he and Pondexter were introduced to the local media as the newest Hornets. "We started playing around. And he wanted to start keeping score when he started making shots. But no, it's great. He can still move around and play. You don't get that all the time, being able to build a relationship with your coaches by playing a little one-on-one and getting a little competitive with your coach.
"When he tells you something, it's kind of cool that he can tell you and if you don't believe it, he can show you. I like that aspect in Coach Williams. When he says he can't wait to put his hands on us, he's serious about that. But in a good way."
The Official Chris Paul Trade Simulator
With all these "sources" pointing Chris Paul's "future" in every which "direction", I decided to make a little simulator to show where our beloved superstar could end up next year. Each team was assigned probability based on "rumored destinations" from the "list" CP3 "requested" while taking into account multiple variables including cap-space, location, amount of rumors, calculated/adjusted %PER, n<λ^2-x=h, 维基汉å—æ¼¢å—, ʃ/aÊŠ/Ê’, etc, etc. Trust me, it's a very complicated equation. Anyways, go ahead and give it a try:

Chris Paul Rumors are Flying
So let's try to ground them a little. First, here's the Times-Pic:
Though New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul has two years remaining on his contract before he can opt out, his new agent, Leon Rose, who also represents LeBron James, is currently gauging interest from various teams that could seek to obtain him in a trade, according to league sources.
*snip*
"No one from our camp has said that Chris demanded a trade,'' a source close to Paul said Thursday. "But they (Hornets) have not put themselves in position to win this season. We have the same team as last year, basically. The only thing that matters to Chris is winning.''
I'm sick of hearing about sources close to Paul. I hate this kind of vague innuendo. I wonder if this type of behavior started when Chris signed on to LRMR, or if it just seems more prevalent now.
But wait, ESPN says Chris Paul HAS A LIST!!!!! (Dun dun DAAAAH!!!!)
The Vade Mecum to FanPosting and FanShotting
Two days ago, we went over The Field Guide to Commenting; today, we're off to FanPosts and FanShots.
When SBNation introduced the concept of diaries, way back in yesteryear, it came as a seminal moment in history, an achievement akin to man's discovery of fire or, I know this may sound crazy but hear me out, the invention of the battery-powered battery charger. It left us in awe and without the faculties of speech or touch. In essence, it elevated the average reader from a state of profound quiescence, metamorphosing the community member from a mere receptacle, yearning to be filled with sports knowledge, into a living, breathing creator- nay, manufacturer- of hypotheses and intimations. It was great.
Diaries gradually evolved into their modern states of existence- FanPosts and FanShots. After the jump, a look at the ins and outs contained therein. (Also contained: readable English).
Hornets on the Internets: Dell Demps Edition
Because talking about Chris Paul is ludicrously speculative and completely depressing, let's discuss Dell Demps. Out of the chute, the Times-Pic has the usual pablum about how excited Demps is to be the new GM:
Here's the headline quote:
"From the moment I spoke to Hugh and Monty about this opportunity, I could tell something special was building within the organization," Demps said in a release. "I am excited for this opportunity because the Hornets are a great organization with a lot of positive pieces."
And he wants to clean house:
Weber said the Hornets' entire basketball operations department will undergo a complete evaluation by Demps, who plans to hire his own staff.
And Gregg Popovich really likes Demps:
