They've made an impact together in the NHL, they've made an impact together in the Hockey World Championships, and now they will be making an impact together as NHL All-Stars.

2011 NHL All-Star players were announced just now and Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos have been named as All-Stars. This does not mean they have been paired up, as teams have not been set (new formatting for this year's All-Star game will result in teams being "drafted"), but the potential is there.

The dynamic duo is one of the most offensive pairings in the NHL, with 110 points between them this season in 43 games played.

Links: This week's Lightning Capitals game is a game to watch

The Lightning land themselves again in Scott Burnside's ESPN 'This week's games to watch' with tomorrow's game against the Capitals. As we all remember, last week before the blowout against the Pens, the Lightning won 1-0 in overtime with Dwayne Roloson's debut with the team. Will tomorrow's game turn out to be another 1-0 games that needs to be decided in overtime again? And who will win this one? Burnside thinks this one will go to overtime but go in favour of the Caps this time

Your Lightning and links from around the NHL after the jump...

The Southeast This Week

All the rage last week was about the Lightning-Capitals showdown for first place.  The game didn't disappoint, with the Lightning battling to a 1-0 overtime win.  Both goaltenders were tremendous, with Dwayne Roloson making 34 saves, and Semyon Varlamov saving 37 of 38. The Lightning took over sole possession of first place in the Southeast with the win, and have not relinquished it since.

Lucky for us, we get all the hype again this week! Wednesday, we'll get to see a rematch with the stakes basically just as high.  If by chance the Panthers can take the Capitals to OT/shootout and win it, we'll once again have the teams tied for points.  This time, however, in the same amount of games.  If that situation doesn't present itself (a Capitals victory, Panthers regulation win), someone (either the Bolts or the Caps) will be trying to play leap frog.  Regardless, we'll have another showcase of the top two teams in the division.

What's that? There's three other teams in the Southeast? Yes, you're right.  More on them after the fold.

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost to the New Jersey Devils 6-3.

Yeah, how the Devils scored more than two is beyond me, either. Must've been the team they played. Or, at the very least, their lack of offense and team defense.

But I guess this is a recap about the Lightning, huh?

This game wasn't quite as bad as the one in Pittsburgh last week. Though, to be honest, I'm not sure many games can come close to that, frankly. But when you allow a team that's been struggling as much as the Devils have score six goals - two of which were empty netters - well, you know that you have a problem.

To help put this in perspective for you, this was just the Devils 11th win of the season - and they've played 42 games thus far.

9:12, Lights out; Lightning at New Jersey Devils preview

WHERE: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
WHEN: 5 PM EST
MEDIA: Sun Sports (cable), 620 WDAE (radio)
OPPONENT COVERAGE: In Lou We Trust, 2 Man Advantage

Stuff happens.

Sometimes, you see a story unfold before your eyes and you pass judgement on it. "This is amateur"; "This is strange"; "This is a different kind of delay that I would not have expected. Very odd"

This was January 8th, 2010. Tampa Bay at New Jersey. With 9:12 left in the second period, some of the lights failed at the Prudential Center in Newark and play was suspended. It was a notable quirk in the Lightning season last year that was not tied to front office and ownership woes.

A notable quirk, one for the books in fact.

But that was then, and this is now. The difference in a year's time? The Tampa Bay Lightning franchise and the New Jersey Devils franchise are suddenly trending in vastly different directions. It's only now, half-way through the Lightning season, that we get to remark about it in a game-day preview.

Game 42: Tampa Bay Lightning at Ottawa Senators

The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Ottawa Senators 2-1.

Overall, the team played better than their no-show in Pittsburgh last Wednesday. However, it still wasn't great. They played like a team trying not to lose rather than a team trying to win.

A good portion of the players were just out on the ice trying to not make too many mistakes. And, as John Tortorella has said, safe is death - which is a true enough statement. The way they were playing was not going to win them the hockey game.

But, you had guys like Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, and Dwayne Roloson playing their hearts out, anyways. Two of those players, you'll noticed, were coached by Tortorella, so they knew better than to try to play things safe like most of the rest of the team did. Sure, Lecavalier made some mistakes, but at least he was trying - which is more than the majority of the team was doing.

The stat that I'm sure will catch everyone's eye is the 14 turnovers that are listed for the Lightning. Not the best stat in the world, is it. Don't feel too bad for Roloson, though, since he had the most giveaways of anybody with three.
