George Lucas Loses Billions…By ChoiceFiled under: InspirationDon’t Worry, George Lucas will still have plenty of billions leftover. The creator of the multi-billion dollar Star Wars franchise has agreed to take part in The Giving Pledge, which consists of a group of billionaires who agree to give away half of their wealth to charity. The pledge was started by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, who could easily part with half of their respective fortunes. For those members who feel they need to shed even more billions, there is no cap on how much money one can donate to the pledge (Buffett has pledged 99% off his wealth). We’re very impressed. All of a sudden, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace seems slightly more watchable, and we might be less inclined to roll our eyes the next time we watch one of those Windows 7 “I’m a PC” commercials. Would U donate half your money if U were a multi-billionaire? No one on this earth needs that much fucking money. And if you think otherwise… you're one greedy motherfucker.
Without a doubt. Thank you George, you've just set the bar for the rest of the rich cats. Dig deep.
Why do people have to give "half" of their fortune away to prove they are humantarians and not snobby stuck up greedy heartless assholes? I never understand that. Shouldn't giving the amount that is needed for something be enough? I highly doubt Half their exact amount is what is needed. I think thats crap.
i am very impressed with their generosity. others should follow suit. those dumb jerks in hollywood make millions to suck at acting in a film. why don't they start donating their fortunes? do you really need 5 mansions, 10 cars and money to wipe your ass with? im so disappointed in the greedy people hollywood houses
I would do it, but I would be private about it. Either way, I think it's fantastic that everyone involved is doing this.
These charities they are giving their money to DON'T HELP ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES!
Absolutely. If I had so much money that if I were to live to be a 100, and still had billions left, I would leave enough for my relatives to survive on, and then the rest will go to causes I believe in. Like LadyDayBug stated, no one on earth needs that much money. Btw, Perez, there is some "mediaplex" picture on your page that momentarily freezes my computer, making it hard to type a post. Some of my friends have this issue as well.
I sure would. As long as I know it is a worthy cause i.e. cancer, hunger, proverty, education. And I would want to see results! Helping people make their lives better can also make yours better. Because you can't take it with you. You know from cradle to tomb it is't that long a stay. Help someone make their lives better. Kudos to all those that had the heart and guts to do it.
They should give it to all their liberal politician buddies so they can pay down the debt for us. Take care of Americans first. But instead it will end up in Africa or Haiti. That is where all the celebs love to put their money. Forget the Americans.
As an Army Vet, active duty wife & parent of an Autistic child, I think that giving any amount of money to a charity is admirable. No matter what your career choice, if you have the means to give then give!!! I have stood in line at a food pantry to provide for my children, but ask for nothing, there are others, many others who have no water to drink ….. no immunizations ….. and no food to live ….. give to them ….. PLEASE!!!!! Don't think of America, think of humanity and give!!!!!
I don't know. I like to think that I would. However, after living hand to mouth for so long right now I think I'd find it hard to part with any money I came into.
I've always been very impressed with Warren Buffett. 99%?! Amazing. Really. Apparently money does occassionally land in the right hands.
I'm very touched. As long as it's for a real cause, not one of those Teaching Meditation to Somalian Tweens or Make Africa Vegan.
If everyone they are asking to make this pledge actually did it, it could make a huge difference. We're talking about a redistribution of the world's weath. It's exciting!
Before he gives half away he better make sure he has enough left over to afford some lipo on that chin area.
At least they are putting some of their money out there. Betcha Queen O and Santa Angelina won't join the posse. Afterall, O only gives away fan money that others donate and Santa Angelina…well not much more needs to be said about her…yuck!!!!
I wouldn't. I would do my own projects and help in causes I believe in. Charities steal a lot of money.
i would.
Re: JessicaTandyWasMyHero –
WTF?
Did you notice that Oprah is noticeably absent from this list?????? Never liked her anyway.
I think that's great! They have so much money they don't even know what to do with it.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it's awesome that they're so generous. On the other hand, if you still have many billions left it's not like you're sacrificing much. But the libertarian side of me loves to see people CHOOSE to give away money they've earned to causes they believe in, instead of the f-ing government stealing it from you.
Haha I love how people have negative things to say about this. If you have something shitty to say about people giving away billions of dollars to charity you're a miserable person and need to get off the internet and into a hobby. This is a really refreshing story, maybe there's hope for mankind afterall (though reading these comment pages tends to negate that hope)
Firstly, most of the high-profile "charities" are nothing more than tax havens for the Illuminati crowd, serving as nothing more than a place to hide behind and look good AFTER creating the "need" for them in the first place by hoarding the worlds wealth…right Mr.'s Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan? to name only two of approx. 13 families world wide. So, while it appears "generous" these particular ones mentioned, will not "go without" one iota to do this, while the Illuminati-owned Charities will make billions…Sorry to be so apparently negative on this one, but lets face it, the kind of greed that has these men able to do this in the first place, IS the CAUSE of such need for charity in the first place so it's a little like praising the arsonist for coming to help put out the fire he set in the first place.
OK you fuckers who criticize: HOW MUCH DO YOU GIVE EVERY YEAR IN CHARITIES (or do you jkust get fat looking at people dying of hunger6
Where can I get some? I need help
Hell no, I could buy 10 Rachel Uchitel's with a billion dollars!
Maybe I'm f'd up in the game… donating yes, giving away half, yeah, that's your choice, but me? NO! and right now in my state of brokedom…NEVER!!! And to all those jumping on other celebrities, saying they should donate half their money too.., jump off their meat. You know like I know you're not giving away that much money and if you say you would… you're a broke ass anyway.
All you critics need to read up on Warren Buffett and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation before you talk smack on their charitable gifts.
In 2006 Buffett pledged about the equivalent of 10 million Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (worth approximately US$30.7 billion as of 23 June 2006). Bill Gates said with just that donation their charity might be able to vaccinate enough children in Africa that several deadly diseases maybe eradicated.
Whether or not they use their charities for tax or business purposes, doesn't change the fact that they do in fact do some good that would otherwise not be done.
I would take some of that-they sure can donate some to me
BRAVO !!! WE SALUTE YOU - THOSE WHO JOIN THIS CLUB - LUCUS , GATES, BUFFETT AND CO… IT HAS RESTORED MY FAITH IN HUMANITY !!!! ——-

Yes I would especially if I was a MULTI-BILLIONARE…
If I had billions I would not be giving it away to existing charities, I would start my own. Thievery runs rampant with today's charities and I'd want to see it put to actual use. Doesn't the head of the Salvation Army make over 300k a year?
Very admirable. Thing is, they may be left with billions of dollars after donating half their fortune, but the fact remains, they don't have to do it. No one is putting a gun to their head to do it yet they do. And they can spend their billions on a whole lot of stupid shit and live in a diamond encrusted house or something but they chose to give a huge chunk of their fortune to those in need. If some people can still find something wrong with is, I can only imagine what kind of person you are.
fair play to them all.
If this beautiful pledge would have or has to do anything with the government "distributing" it, HECK NO, I wouldn't give it! I'd make sure my managers distribute it at my direction! Congratulations to those to get it!
Re: curiousred – exactly!!
It's about time the rich finally see the state of things and donate some of their money earned from those who reside in this country. If not for us poor slobs who go and see Lucas' movies he would never have become a muti-billionare.
Instead of "charities" how about citizens and families who need help directly. I've worked for charities and many of them squander money.
If this is true,I think it's great. In answer to the question,I would definitley do this,if I had that kind of money. More people should do this, especially those who can afford to spend millions on weddings, mansions, etc.
OK jackass - HE DIDN'T LOSE HIS MONEY - HE DONATED IT. Huge difference.
You act as if this is all new news. Keep contributing to the goal of a 10 IQ for the masses, douchebag.
Re: AnnaRoseByAnyOtherName – Are you dim? Vaccines are toxic and generate big profits for the manufacturers. Gates and Buffet started their foundation to global invest without being taxed, and media manipulation. Gates and Buffet killed many people to get where they are, they stink, money stinks, and materialism stinks! Bush and Cheney should start foundations so you will like them.
