Pardon me, I didn't see you there. I was too busy absorbing the awesomeness that is the Barclay Premier League's opening weekend. Think the NFL's kickoff celebration, but British and boozier.
Spurs and Man City kicked things off early this A.M. playing a high octane scoreless draw that had action unmatched by some 2/3 of this past World Cup (and likely damn near all the entire opening slate of games). While the EPL may not quite match the aggregate talent of the Spanish La Liga, it's likely no league in the world can match the entertainment quality of play on the pitch when things get cooking with gas.
There's plenty of matches (live and tape delayed alike) throughout the remainder of the day. If you enjoyed the World Cup even in the tiniest bit, you owe yourself to give it a chance. If you need assistance picking a side, SBN's venerable Spencer Hall has you more than covered.
Happy footballing.

Rivals.com, the popular college sports website whose credibility skyrocketed with their innovative recruiting coverage, has released their list of the best receiving corps in the country entering the 2010 college football season. Guess who topped the list?
1. Houston Cougars
2. Arkansas Razorbacks
3. Texas A&M Aggies
4. Miami Hurricanes
5. Boise State Broncos
And so on.
As good as James Cleveland, Patrick Edwards and Tyron Carrier are, I have to give the Arkansas group the nod. Chiles is a top-tier receiver, Adams and Wright are nearly as good and TE D.J. Williams may be the best in all of college football. That said, you should be just as excited to see the Coogs' receiving bunch dominate once again this year.
SportsIllustrated.com's Joe Posnanski, a writer I've long admired, came up with a list of 32 "great' receivers in the history of football. Guess who made that list? No, you were wrong, it wasn't Corey Bradford.
29. Andre Johnson
Like with Fitzgerald, it's probably too soon to put him on this list... but over the last two seasons Johnson has AVERAGED 108 catches and 1,572 yards receiving. Playing for Houston does tend to get a player overlooked... I have no doubt in my mind that Johnson and Fitzgerald can both be Top 10 receivers and maybe higher before their careers are done.
Every time I see one of these historical-themed football pieces on how good Andre Johnson is, it makes me feel like we've been spoiled as fans. There are some certain modern contemporaries of Johnson on the list who have played great only when they've felt like it *cough*RandyMoss*cough*, and no matter how bad the team around him has been, Johnson has shut up and used every bit of talent and effort in his frame to make the Texans better.
I'd hope something like this, read by a Texans Front Office employee, would make them automatically redouble their focus on winning as soon as possible. For AJ's sake. Before he goes down as the best receiver to have never won anything.
The Astros are excited for the upcoming weekend for two reasons:
1. We get to play the Pirates.
and
2. They get to start off the weekend with the "Astros Wives Gala".
This auction is nothing short of a great excuse to see beautiful women at their best. However, after looking through some of the Gala's pictures, it appears as though we have a celebrity on the team.
Without further adieu...Tim Byrdak? Or Steve Carell with a short haircut? Either way, they both probably throw the same speed.
