Critical Thinking skills should be taught in schools rather than rote memorization.
There are damn few jobs available in the trivia field, we need process oriented thinking skills......and stop asking R-W nut jobs for advise..... nothing good will come of it.
Ah, but our glorious corporate masters have made clear, the last thing they want is an employee who can critically think. Critical thinking makes one come to the realization that we're getting screwed royally and it's just getting worse. What our masters want is an employee just bright enough to pull the right lever at the right time. We're working harder and harder for less and less. People having to work 2 or even 3 jobs just to make ends meet. No benefits, no perks and no respect is the corporate motto.
Flat management structures and the pulling up of the promotional ladder. Everything can be outsourced and managed by spreadsheet and checkbook to an employment agency. Execs and their supervisor lackeys think they can safeguard their cushy jobs by keeping the masses down.
'Flat management' and lean production is the current fashionable trend, yes it provides quick profits for the status quo, but also a slow decline and destruction of companies in the long run.

I finally downloaded Firefox and C&L works for me now. I couldn't take another day of the words all over the page and off the page. (Before, I thought I had to replace IE, but now I have both.)
now explore the fun world of Firefox add-ons, theres a free plug-in to do almost anything for it. Tools menu then add-ons and browse and enjoy.
Will try, but sometimes I'm slow getting around to trying new ways (creature of habit).

Interesting little piece on Japanese War criminals, I note it took them 65 years to acknowledge this (although their responsibility has been officialy commented on before). Will it take us 65 years to acknowledge the crimes of the Bush administration? There's at least one family that's hoping it will.
I have been to Yasukuni Shrine and can see why it offends other Asians. The war museum makes it look like Japan saved Asia from Western Imperialism and it was a grand and noble thing. The part about losing the war is one tiny room at the end of the trip through. There are class-A war criminals buried there.

US Internet radio host was convicted Friday of threatening to assault and kill three judges who upheld a ban on handguns in Chicago, the US Justice Department said.
Hal Turner, 47, was arrested in June 2009 for an Internet posting that said of the three federal judges who had upheld Chicago's handgun ban, "Let me be the first to say this plainly: These judges deserve to be killed."

The tiny blue-collar city that granted huge salaries to its top officials may have to repay nearly $3 million in illegal property taxes, a state official said Friday.
An audit showed that the Los Angeles suburb exceeded a state cap when it raised its property tax rate in 2007 to pay for pension obligations, California Controller John Chiang said.
Chiang sent a letter Friday to the Los Angeles County auditor-controller, instructing the agency to reduce the tax rate. The drop would mean a $250-a-year reduction on the tax bill for a $275,000 home, Chiang's office said.
The county apportions the property taxes collected by local governments.
I heard here on local TV that it'll be approx. $250/household. Enough to buy a tree and a few presents for the kiddies at least.

U.S. missile strike kills 12 militants in Pakistan

MIRANSHAH Pakistan (Reuters) - A pilotless U.S. drone aircraft fired missiles into Pakistan's North Waziristan, an al Qaeda and Taliban sanctuary on the Afghan border, killing at least 12 militants on Saturday, intelligence officials said.
The United States has intensified missile strikes by drone aircraft in Pakistan's lawless Pashtun tribal lands in an effort to curb violence in Afghanistan, much of which U.S. officials say comes from militant sanctuaries on the Pakistani side.
Most of the missile attacks this year were carried out on militant targets in North Waziristan region.
In the latest strike, the missiles hit a house used by militants as a hideout near Mir Ali, the second major town of the region.
"We have reports that 12 militants were killed in the attack. The death toll could be more," an intelligence official in the region told Reuters.

Abbey Lincoln, Jazz Singer and Writer, Dies at 80

Abbey Lincoln, a singer whose dramatic vocal command and tersely poetic songs made her a singular figure in jazz, died on Saturday in Manhattan. She was 80 and lived on the Upper West Side.
Her death was announced by her brother David Wooldridge.
Ms. Lincoln’s career encompassed outspoken civil rights advocacy in the 1960s and fearless introspection in more recent years, and for a time in the 1960s she acted in films, including one with Sidney Poitier.
Long recognized as one of jazz’s most arresting and uncompromising singers, Ms. Lincoln gained similar stature as a songwriter only over the last two decades. Her songs, rich in metaphor and philosophical reflection, provide the substance of “Abbey Sings Abbey,” an album released on Verve in 2007. As a body of work, the songs formed the basis of a three-concert retrospective presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2002.
Her singing style was unique, a combined result of bold projection and expressive restraint. Because of her ability to inhabit the emotional dimensions of a song, she was often likened to Billie Holiday, her chief influence. But Ms. Lincoln had a deeper register and a darker tone, and her way with phrasing was more declarative.
“Her utter individuality and intensely passionate delivery can leave an audience breathless with the tension of real drama,” Peter Watrous wrote in The New York Times in 1989. “A slight, curling phrase is laden with significance, and the tone of her voice can signify hidden welts of emotion.”
She had a profound influence on other jazz vocalists, not only as a singer and composer but also as a role model. “I learned a lot about taking a different path from Abbey,” the singer Cassandra Wilson said. “Investing your lyrics with what your life is about in the moment.”

It is plain that Dr. Laura was representing white Tea Baggerish ideology in attempting to weaken their preceived threat of political correctness. It was classic watching a racist gingerly tip toe dismissively about the black caller's concern. It became predictably apparent what direction her advise was slanted towards and the Foxishness glared its ugly hate speech for all to witness. The advise was not meant for the caller; it was a spit at the face of all ethnics that have witness this cavalier white group racist behavior. The apology offered the following day was pathetic; more of a I'm sorry I got caught, marked! Racism is always served with one portion denial and two parts justification. We should boycott her sponsors.
