A gay porn actor was found guilty Thursday of extorting and attempting to extort $1.5 million from a Florida-based business tycoon. The case ended Thursday afternoon after about two hours of deliberation, with the jury delivering a guilty verdict against defendant Teofil Brank, who performs as Jarec Wentworth, on all six of the government's charges.Brank faces six to nine years in federal prison. He will be sentenced in September. (Tipped by JMG reader TJ)
Brank, flushed and on the verge of tears, buried his head in his hands after the jurors left the courtroom. His defense attorney Seema Ahmad wept as two U.S. Marshals cuffed and chained Brank, who was dressed in a white-collared blue shirt, gray pants and black shoes. Brank's criminal trial began on Tuesday. He was charged with extorting Florida tycoon Donald Burns.
During trial, jurors heard salacious details, including Burns' bid to have a gay porn movie shoot on his multimillion dollar cliffside estate, lurid testimony about sex parties and Burns' very public relationship with another former gay model and porn star. In a stunning admission, a male prostitute confirmed he was reluctant to talk to authorities because of his relationship with a "powerful" individual. "David Geffen" was the name he uttered on the second day of proceedings.
Efforts to contact Geffen - billionaire philanthropist, founder of Geffen Records and co-founder of Dreamworks SKG - or his representatives were unsuccessful. Brank was arrested in an FBI sting at a Starbucks near LAX as he tried to blackmail Burns for $1 million. By that time, Brank had already persuaded Burns to hand over his Audi R8 sports car and wire $500,000 from a Goldman Sachs account to a Wells Fargo bank account under Brank's name.

A Florida-based tycoon was identified as the target of an alleged $1.5 million extortion attempt by a gay porn actor during the first day of the actor's criminal trial. Taking the stand Tuesday afternoon in U.S. District Judge's John Walter's courtroom, Donald Burns of Palm Beach said he paid defendant Teofil Brank $1,500 to $2,500 each time the actor referred him to male models and adult performers. He said he also paid to have sex with Brank at least four times. "It was partly a coping mechanism from the loss of my long-term relationship," Burns said in response to a prosecutor's question why he had paid Brank to help set him up with the men. While Burns has been characterized by some outlets as major GOP donor due to his support of Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, Rudy Giuliani, and other top Republicans, he has also supported the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and donated $400,000 to Florida Red & Blue, the group formed to battle 2008's ultimately successful Amendment 2, which placed a ban on same-sex marriage into the state constitution. Burns reportedly went to the FBI when Brank demanded an additional million dollars after having been paid $500,000 and given an extremely expensive Audi R8. There's no mention of Burns being closeted at the time of the alleged extortion. Brank performed under the name Jarec Wentworth.
The Smoking Gun website in April identified Burns as the alleged victim in the federal government's case. But Burns, who jurors heard is worth close to $140 million, successfully moved to have his identity kept secret until trial. The businessman has a stake in Internet phone company Magicjack Vocaltec. He was a co-founder of the Telco Communications Group and controls the Donald A. Burns Foundation. Brank, who performs as Jarec Wentworth, was charged in March with extortion and making criminal threats after the FBI arrested him in a sting at a Starbucks parking lot in El Segundo. Federal prosecutors say Brank extorted Burns and threatened to ruin his reputation by posting sexually explicit photos on Twitter.

A priest whose secret past as a gay porn star was exposed when his x-rated movies were revived on the internet has refused to resign. Scenes from Pastor Jose Santiago's porno past have been viewed by tens of thousands in Puerto Rico after they were posted on social network sites. Father Jose, 33 - now married to a woman - says he gave up porn and being gay after being called by God seven years ago. He told local media in San Juan: "In those days I was gay and participated in homosexual activities, but God touched me, God transformed me, God gave me a woman who loves me and she loves my past."Santiago says the videos surfaced in a campaign to discredit his church, Casa de Oración Monte Santo. Recent photos of Santiago can be seen on the church's Facebook page and on their Twitter account.

A Los Angeles County ordinance requiring actors in pornographic films to use condoms does not violate the porn industry's First Amendment rights of free expression, a federal appeals court ruled Monday. The decision from a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the industry's contention that having actors use condoms would interfere with a film's fantasy element by subjecting viewers to real-word concerns like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. For the First Amendment argument to apply, the court ruled, there would have to be a great likelihood that a film's audience would understand that intended message. "Here, we agree with the district court that, whatever unique message plaintiffs might intend to convey by depicting condomless sex, it is unlikely that viewers of adult films will understand that message," said Judge Susan P. Graber, writing for the panel's majority.AIDS Healthcare Foundation head Michael Weinstein called the ruling a "total vindication." The AHF was the bill's primary backer. A similar bill to implement the rule statewide died last year in a state Senate committee. Weinstein has vowed to place the issue to a public ballot if the bill is not resurrected.

Yesterday the New York Daily News published a breathless "exclusive" report that a recently hired city firefighter has revealed his history in gay porn.
Jonathan Jesensky, 33, starred in at least 10 gay porn films before joining the ranks of New York’s Bravest as a rookie firefighter on Tuesday. Jesensky, who also served in the Marines, ditched his porn career, where he’s known by his X-rated alias, Jonathan West, before he was hired as an FDNY EMT in 2012. On Sunday, an FDNY official said Jesensky came clean about his adult film past before he was hired by the city — and there’s no plan to end his budding civil service career. “The legal department is aware of his work history,” said FDNY spokesman Jim Long. The city’s uniformed forces do not hire people with a serious criminal past for law-enforcement jobs. But the city's strict civil service law — which includes age and fitness requirements — does not bar candidates who have posed nude or starred in X-rated films.According to the above-linked story, Jesensky claims to be straight and says his porn career was "just a job."

Legendary gay film producer Falcon Studios has decided to use some decidedly new tech to compete with bareback studios. For it's latest release, California Dreamin', the San Francisco-based studio used advanced Photoshop techniques to remove condoms from the final film. While the film itself was shot using condoms, the final result appears as condomless. The move comes in response to two trends in the industry — increasing financial pressures from consumers who want to see films without condoms, and state regulatory agencies that have fined adult film producers for going without. In an interview with the consumer-facing blog, GPB, director Tony Dimarco described it as “a throwback to the classic, pre-condom Falcon poolside movies from the 70′s and 80′s.” Falcon itself has used condoms in all its features since the late 80s.Extremely not office safe examples are here.

Last night gay porn industry sources began noting the death of performer Wilfried Knight, 35, who some report took his own life in grief over the suicide of his longtime partner Jerry Enriquez earlier this month. Just over a week ago Knight posted a lengthy blog entry in which he blasted the cult-like abuse of Enriquez by the Canadian yoga apparel company that had employed him. In an entry posted earlier, Knight noted that since he and his partner were married in Canada, he had no inheritance rights regarding the Atlanta house owned by Enriquez, whose family is taking everything. Knight was born in Germany and raised in France. He made his porn debut in 2004 and made over 20 films.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which successfully lobbied for a condoms-in-porn law in Los Angeles County, has filed workplace safety complaints against several California-based gay porn companies that specialize in unprotected sex scenes. Via press release:
AHF this week filed formal ‘Notice of Safety or Health Hazards’ complaints with Cal/OSHA (California’s Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Occupational Safety and Health), the state’s health and safety regulatory and watchdog organization, over the lack of condom use in adult films produced by Treasure Island Media, Inc., a Bay Area adult film production company that primarily serve and produces films for the gay market as well as a dozen other production companies producing what are known as ‘bareback’ films—gay adult films in which the performers do not wear condoms.AHF president Michael Weinstein adds that Treasure Island is "a particularly egregious and outspoken violator of Cal/OSHA safety statutes with its policy of only producing bareback DVDs."
Other producers and companies targeted with AHF’s OSHA complaints include: Bareback Inc./Vineyard Entertainment; Dark Alley Media; HDK International/Hot Desert Knights; Huge Studio/AVNS Inc.; Icarus Entertainment/Raw Pups; Pete’s Distribution; Sparta Video; Spunk Video; Stud Mall; SX Video; Viper Entertainment and Zyloco Inc./Tony & Cam. The complaints are AHF’s first targeting the bareback gay market.
Assemblymember Isadore Hall, III (D-Los Angeles) will hold a Valentine’s Day press conference to introduce legislation requiring condom use in all adult films produced in California. Joined by Michael Weinstein, President of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Darren James, a former adult film actor who contracted HIV while working in the industry, Hall’s legislation will provide statewide uniformity needed to ensure that the thousands of actors employed in this multi-billion dollar industry are given reasonable workplace safety protections needed to reduce exposure to HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
