Back in March, Marine Corps Commandant General James Conway said that he wants separate quarters for gay troops: "I would not ask our Marines to live with someone that is homosexual if we can possibly avoid it."
Yesterday, in a Pentagon briefing, Conway reiterated that sentiment:
On a different, but related subject, Conway suggested that if the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” law is repealed, the Marines may consider allowing Marines not to share quarters with homosexuals.
Conway said the Marines may make such housing arrangements “voluntary” to accommodate any “moral concerns.” He said many Marines are “very religious” and because of their moral concerns “don’t want to room” with homosexuals.
But Conway stressed that if the law is repealed, the Marines would take the lead in implementing it. “We cannot be seen as dragging our feet. We’ve got two wars to fight. We’ll implement it and move on,” said Conway.
You may recall that in July, when the first troop survey went out, there was concern about language that referred to "facilities adjustments" and Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell tried to allay those concerns:
"...we’re asking these questions because in our engagements with the force thus far, this has been an area of some concern. Now we need to test it to see if that holds for—if it really reflects the concerns of the force, and which members of the force. Is it older members? Is it younger members? Are they, you know—which ones? And, and then along with this information, the working group will make some recommendations about how to deal with those concerns. It could be, as I said, who knows? This could be dealt with through education programs, through training programs, or it may require 'facilities adjustments.' But no one, no one is considering 'separate but equal' bathing or living facilities for you know, gay and straight troops. That’s just not ever a consideration. Absolutely off the table."
As for "facilities adjustments," Morrell told CBS he meant things like shower curtains.
Sounds like Conway is talking about more than shower curtains.

A couple San Diegans have emailed me angry after having heard this.
San Diego morning show DSC on radio station Jack FM 100.7 had a good laugh over Uganda "kill the gays" bill supporter Pastor Martin Ssempa and his presentations at churches where he shows gay porn and describes anal sex in order to ratchet up anger, violence, and hate toward gay people.
But at least one of the shock jocks wasn't laughing at Ssempa's ridiculousness but agreeing with Ssempa at how disgusting gay anal sex is.
The mockery begins at 56:18 in the third podcast down (8/23 7am). And continues at the beginning of the second one (8/23 8am).
Asks one of the DJs: "Are we for or against gay relations? I am 100% against it. Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad. Since I listened to this Ugandan minister talk about the lifestyle of gay men. Are you ready to be convinced?"
They've also posted Martin Ssempa's 'Eat Da Poo Poo' video on the station's website, and a poll, below.

Nelsan Ellis, who plays Lafayette on True Blood and whose relationship with Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) is developing quite quickly, told Digital Spy earlier this month that he doesn't want Lafayette to be in a relationship:
"I didn't really want a love interest. I like Lafayette as just a prostitute... I don't think he's a settle-down-right-now type of dude. I think later down the line, but I think he's so much about his exploits and making money and stuff. I know a lot of people wanted him to settle down and I think the gay community wanted him to settle down...I don't want it to last long. No, I don't want it to last long. Maybe when Lafayette is like 35, you know what I mean? Maybe. But Lafayette is like 28....[Creator Alan Ball] told me it was surprisingly tender... We were just trying to make it real and believable. We know the show has a huge gay fanbase so we wanted it to be believable for all the fans because when the camera's right here all that love's got to manifest itself. There are deep feelings and I think they're falling in love."

So what does everybody think about the Manhattan midtown 'monstrosity'?
"The owners of the Empire State Building and their supporters say their tower’s international status and New York City’s skyline are in mortal danger of an assault from a 'monstrosity.' Their rival: a proposed tower on 34th Street two avenues to the west that, according to its developers, will help the city grow and prosper, provide thousands of jobs and improve the quality of life for tens of thousands of New Yorkers. What irks the former is that the latter would rise to be 1,216 feet, almost as tall as the Empire State Building, and would be just 900 feet away, a little too close for a building that has stood apart in the skyline for its entire 79-year life."
Yea or nay?

Didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but this clip was pretty much everywhere. It shows a woman in Coventry, UK throwing a cat in the trash.
The good news is the cat was alive, found 15 hours later. The woman, thanks to the fact that this video went viral, has been identified and is being questioned.
"In a statement, Coventry police said they were supporting the investigation and 'urge the public to leave the matter to be dealt with correctly by the authorities'. The woman had not been arrested 'because she has not committed a criminal offence', the force said. 'The woman is not being given police protection but Coventry police are making sure that the woman is OK, as they would any other member of their community.'"
More here on the cat and its owners.

Jane Lynch basically confirmed that, as suspected, Chord Overstreet has been cast as Kurt Hummel's boyfriend on Glee.
"They've cast him already," Jane Lynch told us last night at the Audi and Chopard Emmy party when we asked about Kurt's much-anticpiated love interest. "He becomes the new star quarterback and he's going to be Kurt's boyfriend."
While Lynch said she couldn't remember the name of the actor who is playing Kurt's beau, she described the lucky guy as "a good looking kid."
"He's tall, boyish with straight blonde hair and big fat, pouty lips," she said.
