A contest between a conservative state Supreme Court Justice who is closely allied with Governor Walker and a challenger who is backed by labor provides a stark—and potentially definitional—choice.

Governor Scott Walker and his Republican allies tried to take the law into their own hands—violating state statutes and the Constitution in their mad rush to take away collective-bargaining rights from Wisconsin workers. But they forgot that there are still some judges who take the rule of law seriously.
