According to the National Health Service, there has been an increase in the number of women who have reported suffering trauma during their labour, and who are now afraid to go through labour again.

This fear has been labelled tocophobia, and has lead to an increase in requests for Cesareans, which obviously has medical professionals worried:

The Special Prison for Women in Tiruchi, India has just opened a part-time library for the prisoners to use. Although the library currently has only 500 books and is staffed by a temporary worker, the city library will provide more materials if there is a high enough demand – which seems likely as the inmates welcomed the library with enthusiasm:

“The women were really happy over the opening of the library. We have supplied them mostly books on topics such as self-motivation, biographies of women achievers and self-development.”

Giving new meaning to the phrase “Watch what you eat,” Pennsylvania’s Elizabeth Mort and Alex Rodriguez had their newborn daughter Isabella taken by children’s services because Mort flunked a drug test.  Which, if you listen to Mort (and the ACLU, natch), was a misunderstanding caused by a poppy-seed bagel.
