Buffalo — After a final count completed today by the Erie County Board of Elections, Assemblymember Sam Hoyt is the winner of the democratic primary. Unscanned, affidavit and absentee ballots were counted, which all showed an increase for Hoyt. The Board of Elections oversaw the unbiased process with representatives from both the Hoyt and Golombek campaigns present.

Albany, New York — Many of downtown Buffalo's most exciting historic preservation development plans got a huge boost this week when the New York State Assembly and Senate approved legislation that amended the Historic Preservation Tax Credit law (HRTC) to allow banks and insurance companies to claim the tax credit. The Governor, who has already indicated strong support of the bill, is expected to sign it into law. Developers who currently use the existing tax credit law will now be able to increase their commercial development efforts of historic structures across the state. It will not only jumpstart several dozen significant projects that have been on hold, but also allow for a large pool of new investors for future rehabilitation projects.

Governor Paterson signs Dignity for All Students Act
New York City — Governor David Paterson signed into law a landmark bill protecting students in New York State's public schools from bias-based bullying and discrimination. The Governor signed the legislation into law at a September 8 ceremony at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center in New York City. The Dignity for All Students Act passed the legislature earlier this year with overwhelmingly bipartisan support.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), a national, legal services and policy organization dedicated to ending Don´t Ask, Don´t Tell (DADT), released a statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives voted on the final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act. The bill passed 229 to 186 this afternoon. Last night, the House voted 234 to 194 in favor of attaching an amendment to the bill repealing DADT. Washington D.C. — The ban on open military service by lesbian and gay Americans is on a path to repeal this week with the White House, Pentagon leaders and Congress outlining a process that includes votes in the House and Senate as early as Thursday. Legislation to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will be considered as amendments to the National Defense Authorization bill – the same vehicle by which the law was enacted 17 years ago. Final 2009 DADT Discharge Numbers Released
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Servicemembers United announced today that that the total official number of Don't Ask, Don't Tell discharges for Fiscal Year 2009 now stands at 443. The annual fiscal year Don't Ask, Don't Tell discharge statistic combines the total number of discharges reported by the Department of Defense, which was 428, with the total number of discharges reported by the Department of Homeland Security for the Coast Guard, which was 15. This brings the official 17-year total, according to the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, to 13,425 discharges under Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
