1) Do I have to work out of your offices in DC?

Yes. And for long hours too. We get in around 7:30 am, and we stay until at least 6 pm. We work a few hours on weekends too!

2) What kind of experience are you looking for in a candidate?

Needless to say, you need to know what ThinkProgress is. It’s helpful if you’ve blogged or done political research before. But prior experience isn’t essential — some of our staff came to us straight out of college. We’re more interested in who you are than in what you’ve done. You need to be a news junkie to love this job. You need to be willing to promote and defend progressive causes. You need to demonstrate an eagerness to write, report, research, and troll the world for interesting news content.

3) What’s it like to work on ThinkProgress?

Fun and rewarding! We have an interesting and lively cast of characters who believe in the progressive agenda and want to make an impact. We have a team-first mentality, so we’re not in this to promote ourselves, but rather to promote the causes that we believe in.

4) What are the downsides of working for ThinkProgress?

You might get stalked by Bill O’Reilly’s crew or accosted by Rep. Steve King. You have to consume unhealthy amounts of Fox News. You might have to report from tea party events. But other than that, it’s wonderful.

5) How much will I get paid? And do I get full benefits?

Your salary will depend on your prior experience, but we will try to make you a competitive offer. We’re a progressive organization so of course you’re going to have a nice complement of employee benefits, including health care, eye, dental, 401(k), vacation time, sick leave, etc.
