E.ON AG, a power and gas company, engages in the power generation, energy trading, and gas supply businesses. The company generates electricity from coal, natural gas and oil, nuclear, water, wind, solar, and bio energy; and involves in the exploration and production of gas in the North Sea. It also engages in the storage and transportation of gas, including liquefying natural gas; carbon sourcing; and distribution of power and gas. In addition, the company buys and sells primarily electricity, natural gas, oil, coal, biomass, freight, and carbon allowances; and generates and distributes heat. It serves residential, business, industrial, regional and municipal utilities, and local public authorities. As of December 31, 2009, the company had approximately 73 giga watts of installed capacity for power generation; 33,000 kilometers (km) of power transmission networks; a 1 million km power distribution system, as well as approximately 11,600 km of gas transport pipelines, and a 100,000 km gas distribution system. It has operations primarily in Europe, Russia, and North America. The company was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Bavaria Mulls Selling Stake In E.ON

The German state of Bavaria plans to dispose of its shareholding in E.ON AG, which currently amounts to around 2%, Bavarian Economy Minister, Martin Zeil told Passauer Neue Presse. He added that with the expected proceeds of between €600 million and €800 million. The sale of the stake will therefore represent a clear sign that Bavaria will not finance its future through credits, he added. According to Zeil, the option for selling Bavaria's stake in E.ON has long been considered, but now is a good time for the move.

E.ON AG Appoints Bernhard Reutersberg to Its Board of Management

The Supervisory Board of E.ON AG has appointed Bernhard Reutersberg, 56, to its Board of Management, effective immediately. In his new role Reutersberg will oversee E.ON's national subsidiaries, with responsibility for the company's distribution and retail businesses, which together serve more than 30 million customers, as well as for government and regulatory affairs. He will also be responsible for coordinating E.ON's growing energy operations in the important Russian market. Reutersberg joined the E.ON Group in 1999 following eight-year stints as a marketing and sales manager at two major German corporations, Henkel and Vaillant. He started his E.ON career as head of the company's power-trading arm in Germany and later spent five years as a member of the Board of Management of Munich-based E.ON Energie AG with responsibility for all sales operations. Since October 2006 he has overseen E.ON's gas business, most recently as CEO of E.ON Ruhrgas AG, Essen.
