Joy Behar just opined on The View: "Yikes! It's like a Hitler Youth commercial! Let me tell you how stupid she is: 25% of the voters in Nevada are Hispanic and 80% of them are Mexican. She is a moron, on top of being evil. I'd like to see her try this ad in the South Bronx. Come here, BITCH! Try this in New York!"

A conservative group astroturfing themselves as "Latinos For Reform" have launched an ad campaign urging Nevada's Latino residents not to vote.
The ad was widely seen as an effort to hurt the campaign of incumbent Sen. Harry Reid, a Democrat, who is working hard to turn out Latino voters. Mr. de Posoda, who has long worked with the Republican Party, said he didn’t like either candidate but acknowledged that a Latino boycott would hurt Mr. Reid’s chances. Democrats from President Barack Obama on down condemned his effort. “I think it is terrible,’” Mr. Obama said Tuesday during a roundtable with reporters from Spanish-language outlets. “It is a cynical political ploy to try to drive Latino votes to benefit a Republican candidate in Nevada who would never vote for immigration reform.” Mr. de Posoda argues that politicians take Latino votes for granted and have failed to deliver on promises including enacting comprehensive immigration legislation. To teach them a lesson, his ads argue, Latinos should stay home on Election Day. After complaints from Nevada Democrats and some Republicans, Univision said it would not run the spots, called “Don’t Vote.”You think you've seen it all, and then this.

"So that’s what we want is a secure and sovereign nation and, you know, I don’t know that all of you are Latino. Some of you look a little more Asian to me. I don’t know that. [Note: it's the Hispanic Student Union. The whole room is Hispanic teenagers.] What we know, what we know about ourselves is that we are a melting pot in this country. My grandchildren are evidence of that. I’m evidence of that. I’ve been called the first Asian legislator in our Nevada State Assembly."The above-linked reporter says he "has no idea" what Angle means about being the first Asian legislator. Angle continues to maintain a slim polling lead over Harry Reid.

Angle is attacking Sen. Harry Reid over the DREAM Act, which actually died along with the repeal of DADT thanks to the GOP filibuster.

The cloture vote on DADT has failed 56-43 with zero Republicans voting "yes." I'll have the complete roll call in this post shortly. Knowing that cloture would fail, Sen. Harry Reid voted "no" too, so he'll have the chance to reintroduce the bill. That bit of maneuvering was lost on GOProud.

The Washington Post reports:
The U.S. Senate will hold a key vote Tuesday on a defense bill that includes language repealing "don't ask, don't tell," the Clinton-era policy banning gays from openly serving in uniform, Democratic and Republican aides said Thursday. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid earlier this week vowed to hold a vote next week, even taking to Twitter to respond to gay rights advocates.NOW is the time to call your Senators (both of them).

Finding jobs for homosexuals in the military appears to be the top priority for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) Yesterday he told colleagues that next week he will bring to the Senate floor a bill that would repeal the 1993 law which codified the military's longstanding prohibition of homosexual conduct in the ranks. The amendment to allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military is found in the defense authorization bill--along with another anti-family amendment that would turn U.S. military medical facilities here and around the globe into abortion clinics. ABC News reported that this "will likely be the one major piece of legislation that the Senate tackles before the November mid-term elections." This bill is not necessary to fund our military--an appropriations bill does that. The only urgency comes from Reid's desire to pander to his pro-homosexual, pro-abortion base. Senators should reject Reid's distorted priorities by voting against advancing this bill at every step. Contact your Senators today and tell them to stop using the military to impose this Administration's radical homosexual agenda.

A senior Democratic leadership aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Reid met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday to inform the Republican leader that the fiscal year 2011 defense authorization bill will come to the Senate floor the week of Sept. 20. The aide said Senate leadership is anticipating the Senate won’t have unanimous consent to bring the legislation to the floor, so 60 votes will be necessary to end a filibuster and move forward with debate on the bill. “We are going to take it the floor next week to see where the votes are,” the aide said. Was it Lady Gaga? Nah...

“I’m a little anxious,” said Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. “The reality is the number of legislative days in this Congress are rapidly dwindling, and we need to see that the defense authorization bill up on the Senate floor in September.” When Congress returns to Washington next week, the Senate will have until October 8 when they leave for the midterms to take the crucial vote on the 2011 National Defense Authorization Act, which contains the provision to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell.”NOTE: The above photo was taken at Netroots Nation by Pam Spaulding after Lt. Dan Choi bounded onto the stage to shake Reid's hand and hear his promise to repeal DADT.
But one political operative and repeal advocate noted the bill will be competing for attention with new legislation Democrats are pushing that would provide tax breaks for businesses. “The Democrats are trying to figure out what they can effectively do in those four weeks to distinguish themselves from Republicans before the midterm elections,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “The tax cut issue may provide that contrast.”
The source wagered that if the Senate floor vote does not take place before the midterms, the defense funding bill would have a “50-50” shot of passing before the end of this Congress. If it is not finalized by year’s end, the repeal effort will die. Reid’s spokesman, reiterating statements he made last month, told The Advocate the defense authorization bill stood a chance of being addressed upon lawmakers’ return next week. “It’s on the list of things we would like to do in the next few weeks,” said Jim Manley.
