MINNEAPOLIS - Several dozen Catholics plan to protest outside the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis this weekend after receiving a DVD that criticizes same-sex marriage.
Deb Bittner says she's a lifelong Catholic. But she thinks Archbishop John Nienstedt's DVD sent a message of exclusion.
The 53-year-old Bittner says Catholicism is supposed to be about compassion. She says she organized the protest after a lesbian
co-worker received the DVD and asked Bittner what she as a Catholic would do about it.
The archdiocese has acknowledged a campaign to send several hundred thousand of the DVDs to Catholic families around Minnesota.
A message left with the archdiocese Saturday wasn't immediately returned.
Bittner says she expects about 40 people at Sunday's protest.
