EMILY's List endorses anti-gay bigot for US Senate

Yes, EMILY's List, a pro-choice Democratic women's PAC, is endorsing Inez Tenenbaum in her bid to represent South Carolina in the US Senate. Tenenbaum just so happens to support the anti-gay Federal Marriage Amendment, but EMILY's List doesn't care because, apparently, EMILY's List only cares about sexual and reproductive freedom for straight women.

Feel free to contact EMILY's List and their public affairs folks and ask why they support gay-bashers:

Another anti-Kerry attack ad veteran in deep doo-doo

Kos reports that the same veteran who now says Kerry "lacks the capacity to lead" in the latest pro-Bush attack ad had this to say about Kerry in 1996:
"As far as I was concerned, the war was won over there in that part for that period. And it was mainly won because of the bravado and the courage of the young officers that ran the boats, the SWIFT boats and the Coast Guard cutters and Senator Kerry was no exception. He was among the finest of those."
Doh! But I'm sure the Bush supporters never intended to mislead the American public on an issue of national security. Read More......

Amish hate war, but hate gays more

There is something terribly sad about a people who claim to be pacifists, who claim to be vehemently and viscerally opposed to government-sponsored violence, but who are willing to turn a blind eye to such violence expressly because the perpetrator is also a gay-basher. Apparently to the Amish, war is bad, but gay-bashing is better. And to think I had some idea that they were a quaint nice people. Read More......

Key figure in anti-Kerry attack ad recants his criticism

Boston Globe:
A week after Senator John F. Kerry heralded his wartime experience by surrounding himself at the Democratic convention with his Vietnam ''Band of Brothers,' a separate group of veterans has launched a television ad campaign and a book that questions the basis for some of Kerry's combat medals.

But yesterday, a key figure in the anti-Kerry campaign, Kerry's former commanding officer, backed off one of the key contentions. Lieutenant Commander George Elliott said in an interview that he had made a ''terrible mistake' in signing an affidavit that suggests Kerry did not deserve the Silver Star -- one of the main allegations in the book. The affidavit was given to The Boston Globe by the anti-Kerry group to justify assertions in their ad and book.

A Terrific, Fire-breathing Editorial

I'll quote the entire editorial by Bob Herbert in today's New York Times if I don't control myself. It's passionate and on point and stirring. Here's a sample:

"It's as if the government were following a script from the theater of the absurd. Instead of rallying our allies to a coordinated and relentless campaign against Al Qaeda after Sept. 11, we insulted the allies, gave them the back of our hand and arrogantly sent the bulk of our forces into the sand trap of Iraq.

Now we're in a fix.

The war in Iraq has intensified the hatred of America around the world and powerfully energized Al Qaeda-type insurgencies. At the same time, it has weakened our defenses by diverting the very resources we need - personnel, matériel and boatloads of cash - to meet the real terror threats....

Does the administration have any real sense of what motivates the nation's enemies? Does it understand the ways in which American policies are empowering its enemies? Does it grasp the crucial importance of international alliances and coordinated intelligence activity in fighting terror? And is it even beginning to think seriously about lessening our debilitating dependence on Middle Eastern oil?

The United States is the greatest military and economic power in the history of the planet. But it lacks a unifying sense of national purpose at the moment, and seems uncertain, even timid, as the national security challenges continue to mount. That is what a failure of leadership can do to a great power."

Bush Most Successful President in 70 Years!

At losing jobs, that is. Job growth ground to a halt in July -- down to a miniscule 32,000 jobs; which is far lower than expected. Also, the number of jobs created in May and June has been revised downward by nearly 20% from 347,000 to just 283,000. More bad news: weekly pay for rank-and-file workers over the past year has risen only 2.4%, which is significantly less than the 3% inflation rate. In other words, most people are falling behind in real dollars. Bush is almost certain to become the first President in 72 years to run for reelection after presiding over an economy that has fewer jobs than when he entered office. The last one was Herbert Hoover, who had to deal with the Great Depression. Needless to say, Hoover lost.

Unabashed Racist Leads Tenn. GOP Primary

Hell, I can beat that: "Unabashed bigot leads GOP presidential ticket."

From AP:
'When I knock on a door and say white children deserve the same rights as everybody else, the enthusiastic response is truly amazing,' he said.
