Margaret Cho Kicks Ass

Just got back from Margaret Cho's show. She brought the Assassin Tour to DC. That girl kicks butt. The thing I liked most is she doesn't back down. She ain't afraid of the right wing nuts....and she ain't afraid of the Bush Administration - okay, right wing nuts and the Bush Admin. are the same thing. Best of all, she's hilarious.

It was fun to know she was doing her thing three blocks from the White House.

And, Bruce, who opens for her, what a cutie.

Mayor West won't resign

Spokesman-Review reports Jim thinks he can ride this out...hmmm...:
Mayor Jim West is privately being urged to resign by some of his most important political allies – leaders of the Spokane business community who fear ongoing damage to economic development efforts because of the sex scandal enveloping the mayor.

West so far has resisted the entreaties and continues to believe he can ride out the controversy, according to a variety of sources – including some who talked off the record – familiar with the discussions and West's activities in recent days.
Now, what do you suppose is going on in that homophobic head of his? Let's compare these two paragraphs:
West announced Monday he was taking a leave, but not resigning, in the wake of allegations by two men that West molested them when they were boys in the 1970s – allegations West denies – and that the mayor sought dates with young men he met on Gay.com, offering them jobs, gifts and favors.
and:
Meanwhile, an attorney representing West issued a statement, responding to a recall petition filed against the mayor this week by a North Side woman. "The mayor feels strongly that he has always performed his duties with the best interests of the city in mind and has never used or abused his office for personal reasons," attorney Bill Etter said in the statement. Etter received the recall papers Wednesday.
I guess if, in his mind, all that stuff isn't using and abusing his office for personal reasons, well, then, maybe he should still be mayor. Of course, no one outside Jim's head really believes that. And, remember, this is a guy who spent his career castigating and villifying the homosexuals. So, it's actually kinda scary to think of what goes on in Jim's homophobic head. Read More......

NY Times on Frist v. Reid

The New York Times has a piece on the main fighters in the upcoming Senate showdown.

Okay, I'm biased. I like the way Reid is doing his job. But reading this, I hate Frist and the rest of his clowns, especially Santorum, even more. And, from my vantage point, having the completely discredit Manuel Miranda bad-mouth Reid, that just doesn't help their side. Read More......

GOP Keeps Don Sherwood in Key Campaign Role

Just to show how completely hypocritical the House GOP leaders are, they are keeping alleged choker, Don Sherwood, in a key leadership position, the Times-Leader reports today:
Republican leaders remain confident that U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood will not be politically damaged by a flap over a “domestic incident” with 29-year-old Cynthia Ore.

So confident, in fact, they intend to keep Sherwood as chairman of a committee to help GOP candidates win re-election in tough races.

“We don’t see him as a vulnerable member,” said Caryn Alagno of the National Republican Congressional Committee. “He’s been in office a long time, and he’s got a solid record in his district.”

The NRCC announced in March that Sherwood had been named co-chairman of the organization’s Incumbent Retention Committee. The NRCC is the chief fund-raising arm of congressional Republicans.
So, this means that the GOP House Leadership can be defined by Tom DeLay's ethics and Don Sherwood's values. Those are the standards for every Republican running for re-election, especially in those tough races.

They really have no shame....and clearly the House Republican leadership doesn't the same standards to themselves that they want to impose on the rest of America...like the Ten Commandments and the gay-bashing "sanctity of marriage" amendment. (Don voted to impose both on all the rest of us).

What a bunch of frauds. But, hey, Don's a charmer, and what's a little choking between "acquaintances."

In their sicko world, he probably gets points for dating a woman, not his wife, who is half his age. And, the good thing is, he didn't get a divorce. If he did, he might lose. Read More......

Tony Perkins: It is about the Theocracy

The President of the Family Research Council has a bizzaro op-ed in today's Washington Post called "It is about Religious Belief." You can read it if you get a second, but it's not really for the real world. Tony Perkins, who makes some kind of religious persecution argument against Democrats, has an audience of Bill Frist and the other GOP Senators, especially the ones who, like Frist, want to be President. He uses a lot of words for his simple message: The filibuster debate is the theocrats debate.

Perkins confirms that the judicial debate IS about installing theocrats. It's actually farcical to read his piece if you aren't a theocrat or Bill Frist. He is outraged that judicial nominees are asked tough questions about relevant issues. If you do that, in Perkin's world, you are anti-religion....everything to the extreme with these right wingers. Love his conclusion:
In their zeal to preserve an imperial judiciary, liberals have taken abuse of the confirmation process to a new low. The way out is to vote on each nominee on his or her merits.
Huh? Doesn't make sense to us regular folk, but we aren't Tony's audience. Bill Frist is. Just one more reminder they are holding him responsible and telling him not to compromise with the heathens.

Running a theocracy is hard work. Clashes with democracy. Read More......

Uh-oh, now the Afghans hate us

Hey, weren't they supposed to love us? Wasn't that part of the Bush success story? It doesn't look like that right now, says the Washington Post:
Angry mobs ransacked government offices and relief agencies and clashed with police in several provinces Friday in a fourth day of growing anti-American demonstrations. The violence left at least eight people dead and raised the death toll since Wednesday to about 15, officials said.

The demonstrations represent the most widespread expression of anti-American sentiment since U.S.-led troops ousted the Islamic Taliban militia in late 2001. They have caused growing worry for the Western-backed government of President Hamid Karzai, who is due to visit Washington later this month.
Apparently, the reason for the growing anti-American fervor relates to what happened in Guantanamo:
The protests were sparked by a May 9 report in Newsweek magazine that interrogators at the U. S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, had placed copies of the Koran in bathrooms and flushed one text down a toilet.
Not very smart. Why is it that under the Bush administration, everything having to do with prisoners and detainees just sucks. Read More......
