Imagine my surprise when I had to pay $6.25 for an off-peak one-way ticket, when normally I pay $3.75 for a CitiTicket. The conductor said they were told to collect the full fare; no CitiTickets. This is how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority treats its riders. Every time I see MTA Chairman Jay Walder on TV stating that he has to explain to all New Yorkers what the MTA is doing with the money it collects, I want to kick in the screen. Luckily, I like my TV.Read More

I have been involved in martial arts for more than 15 years, and as an avid mixed martial arts fan, I believe that New York desperately needs to legalize a sport that is already accepted in the vast majority of states. The best reason of all is that it would stimulate our economy.Read More

Crouch: It's high noon for Bloomberg

Posted on 2011-06-19 17:15:00

Wealthy men suffer as much as anyone else, as literature, theater and Fox News tell us. So now is the time for Mayor Bloomberg to face what might be called a "high noon" moment. It demands he put up and take a heroic walk, or shut up and go down in history with knees too weak to make the necessary hWill Mayor MikeRead More

I cannot believe the stupidity and arrogance of all the politicians who have been caught with their pants down, literally. What is more surprising is the fact that everyone is demanding their resignations or an end to their political careers, Anthony Weiner being the latest.Read More

Kudos to Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Patricia DiMango, who had the courage and conviction to bring law and order to her court ("Furious judge packs brat off to trial," June 11). By taking teenage gang suspect Chazmia Morrison to task for wearing cut-up jeans and a low-cut shirt to court, the judge sent a message to the youth of New York City that intolerance of the court system will not be tolerated.Read More

Excessive pay raises and benefits can corrupt unions. This fact does not invalidate their existence, but entitlements can become more important than doing a good job. A prime example is the United Federation of Teachers, which is more concerned with the security of its members than the quality of thCharter schoolsRead More

Crouch: Distort, fabricate, repeat

Posted on 2011-05-29 21:59:32

One of the burdens of our democracy is the power that repetition too often has over reality. Lobbies representing special interests revel in how quickly the act of repeating a pure falsehood can turn it into a glistening factoid. This has been true for a long time, but never more so than in recent years.Read More

I am astonished at Voicer Dan McGrath's lack of awareness of the circumstances Israel finds itself in. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn't berate President Obama at all. He gave him a taste of reality after hearing ambiguous, insensitive comments by our President, who seemingly is not in touch with the realities of the Palestinian-Israeli situation. Read More

To become a constellation undimmed in the blue sky of our national media is no joke of a job. Shortly after cooly and publicly stomping down the gullible "birthers" nurtured by Fox News, President Obama proved the power of a properly wielded razor.Read More
