Which CNN Anchor Is Stephen Colbert’s New BFF?

On “The Colbert Report” this week, host Stephen Colbert and NBC “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon ended their six month best-friendship, and Colbert was devastated: “I feel like there is a hole in my heart, the shape of Jimmy Fallon,” he said.

Luckily, there was a silver-haired CNN anchor waiting in the wings to take Fallon’s place:

“I can heal your hurt.”

Eleanor Mondale, Kara Kennedy Die at 51

Journalist and TV show host Eleanor Mondale, the daughter of former vice president Walter Mondale, has died at age 51. Mondale, who until 2009 hosted a daytime show for WCCO radio in her native Minnesota, died at home today of complications due to brain cancer.

Mondale began her television career at WCCO-TV. She worked for E! Online, ESPN, ESPN2 and Speed Channel. She also worked for a time on CBS News “This Morning.”

It was also announced today that Kara Kennedy, the daughter of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, died last night, also at age 51. Kara Kennedy and Eleanor Mondale were both teenagers when their fathers were involved in presidential politics. Kennedy ran unsuccessfully for the democratic nomination in 1980 against the incumbent Jimmy Carter and VP Walter Mondale. Carter/Mondale would win the nomination but lose to Ronald Reagan. In 1984 Mondale won the democratic nomination for president, but would lose to Reagan in the general election.

Coming Soon to HBO: A ’60 Minutes’ For Twentysomethings?

Vice Magazine hosted an “upfront” last night, and in addition to launching their new website, the company announced a project with HBO. The show’s concept? According to AdWeek‘s D.M. Levine, it would be a “’60 Minutes” for young people”:

Though he didn’t go into detail on stage, after his presentation Smith told Adweek that the show, which he described as a “’60 Minutes’ for young people,” will be executive produced by Mahr and called “Vice T.V.” Smith says the new program will air in primetime next Fall.

Vice has already struck a partnership with CNN. That deal raised eyebrows as the magazine is known for its racy content, very unlike the usually prim and proper cable news channel.

The veteran broadcaster opens up about his favorite journalists, his celebrity crush and memorable moments in his career:

FishbowlDC: Most embarrassing moment?

Schieffer: I once dropped a hot cup of coffee on Maria Shriver, but that was on the morning news. And then there was the time President Ford called on me at a prime time news conference and I couldn’t think of a question to ask. So I just said, “What about the Russians?” and lo and behold he gave me an answer that made page 1 news.
