Delegates from the United States and Europe walked out of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday afternoon in the middle of a speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad when he began expressing anti-Israeli sentiment.

On Wednesday’s Truthdig Radio in collaboration with KPFK, in the hours before the execution of Troy Davis, Mike Farrell and Dave Zirin discussed what Zirin called a “legal lynching.” Also: L.A.’s labor battle and the politics of Hollywood.

On Wednesday, President Obama gave a speech to the United Nations General Assembly. His message—that Palestinians should return to the peace negotiations of 1979—seemingly contradicted his speech from a year ago.

By now, probably everyone reading this is already sick of America’s quadrennial political spectacle—the one in which politicians and media outlets ask us to believe that there remain vast differences between our two political parties.


The Troy Davis case makes a compelling case against the death penalty—but not because it is exceptional. On the contrary, it’s fairly ordinary.


In my own experience as a journalist covering this issue, the vast majority of politicians who defend capital punishment do so out of rank opportunism.

Have you noticed that one of the Obama administration’s most successful programs is also its most “socialist” initiative?

Democrats should be building statues of former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, or at least giving away copies of her new book, "A Governor’s Story."

Troy Davis’ 22-year ordeal is over. The state of Georgia executed Davis on Wednesday night. In the years since he was convicted of killing an off-duty police officer, seven of the nine witnesses who testified against him recanted their testimony and his cause gained many supporters, among them the pope and Jimmy Carter.
