Alexandra Brill Presents | Daily Daily

+ The Daily tells Snyder he shouldn’t increase the sales tax and I agree. Jon Corzine did that in New Jersey in 2006 and we all saw what happened there. He didn’t wear his seat belt, never recovered from being a Wall Street douche bag, and ended up losing reelection to that guy who won the pie eating contest in Stand By Me.

+ One viewpoint wishes that local food were also affordable. But at least “Babo: a market by sava” is opening so there will never be a shortage of places to buy expensive, non-local food.

+ A freshman in another viewpoint is mad about bad grades, the subjective aspect of english classes, and tough professors. Dude, like, watch Animal House and be glad you’re here.

+ Girl’s life ends abruptly when she gets a new, unused passport. More coverage tomorrow.

+ Alec Baldwin was kicked off a plane yesterday afternoon. Man, this guy is everywhere right, Stefon?

+ Herman Cain just still all over the damn news.

+ An environmental student group, EnAct, is so awesome because “it’s run by the people who participate.” This is an aspect of student orgs that we take for granted. For example, there’s at least one anti-Obama group on campus that is clearly run by Satan. Or Newt Gingrich. But I repeat myself.

Happy Wednesday!

GOP Candidate or Ron Swanson? | Child Labor

“I do not suggest children until about 14 or 15 years of age do heavy, dangerous janitorial work. On the other hand, there are a number of things done to clean buildings that are not heavy or dangerous.” – Newt Gingrich

“I got my first job when I was 9. Worked at a sheet metal factory. In two weeks, I was running the floor. Child labor laws are ruining this country.”- Ron Swanson

A Step in the Right Direction

The Obama administration has pledged to support gay rights abroad. Quoting the New York Times, “the administration vowed to actively combat efforts by other nations that criminalize homosexual conduct, abuse gay men, lesbians, bisexuals or transgendered people, or ignore abuse against them.” This is an important step in the fight for equality and is another victory for the LGBTA community. In September the military policy “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” was officially repealed, allowing thousands of gay and lesbian soldiers to openly serve their country. Despite these victories, attacks are still made against the LGBTA community every day. Republicans in Iowa indicated that they wanted to overturn same-sex marriage in the state and a blood ban against MSM (Men who have Sex with Men) remains in place despite protests from the Red Cross. While we have made progress under the Obama administration, we must do more to ensure equality. As Hilary Clinton said, “Some have suggested that gay rights and human rights are separate and distinct…but in fact they are one and the same.”

Daily Daily 12/6

The following was written by Jessica Longoria and does not necessarily reflect the views of College Democrats or any other organization, much to her dismay.

Note: The photo is completely irrelevant. I just felt compelled to share with the world the cuteness of Boo the Facebook Dog.

The Sparties are still jealous that we’re going to the Sugar Bowl. Just another thing for them to be envious of, other than our higher rankings :O

Another sexual assault occurred, this time in Baits I, prompting more complaints about the incompetence of DPS. One student explained, “… I’m here [in the residence hall] late, and I see one police officer every few hours.”

The late Amy Winehouse’s album was released, “Lioness: Hidden Treasures”

A laptop was the unlikely victim of theft amidst a “sea of PCs”. Poor PC, even criminals don’t think you’re worth the trouble to steal.

A new set of guidelines meant to promote diversity by encouraging universities to take socioeconomic status and domestic instability into account for admissions may not affect the University because of the Michigan ban on evaluating race when making admission decisions.

For those looking to get more involved, LGBT Commission will be working with Stonewall Dems to protest the FDA blood ban on MSM (Men who have Sex with Men). If you would like to get more involved contact me at jlongori@umich.edu or come meet us at Amer’s on State St. Friday at 1 p.m.

 That’s all folks!

We Can’t Wait to Extend the Payroll Tax Cut

President Obama has asked Congress to extend his payroll tax cuts, which currently cut taxes for the average American family by $1,000 every year. President Obama’s plan would increase this amount to $1,500, but so far, the Republican-led Congress has refused to act on the President’s proposal, and Senate Republicans have already rejected it once. Failing to enact this policy would hurt working families and would jeopardize their financial security in an already difficult economic climate.

“Oh, this rain
It will continue
Through the morning”
As I type this Daily Daily
For December 5, 2011.

Welcome to the final full week of the Fall Semester!!!

1.) Sugar Bowl!!! (Sponsored by, AllState, You’re in Good Hands, now let’s win this one!)
2.) The new Clark library will be housing 370,000 maps. No excuse to ever get lost on campus ever again.
3.) AP Section: amidst much violence, one pro-government protester in Syria finds the time to show off his skill of breaking bricks with his head.
4.) Donald Trump is moderating a December 27 GOP Debate brought to us by Newsmax. Sad it isn’t for the one this Saturday, it would make A Very Thoughtful Christmas that much better.
5.) Saudi Arabia believes that allowing women to drive will lead to more premarital sex. Mid 20th Century America called and said it wants its thing back.
6.) Just noticed the Daily reused the same image on pages 1A and 2A…
7.) Herman Cain just couldn’t slice it right, so he’s been moved to delivery duty (awaiting endorsements).
8.) It’s really a crime to have a leaky heater? Shouldn’t it be under Campus Events and Notes? Or just errata?
9.) Michelle Bachmann: “I’m a candidate yarp yarp!”
10.) As one of the players is one of my classmates, I must mention that the Women’s Basketball team is now 8-1, winning again this weekend. Go Blue!

That is all. Have a good last full week of lectures. Additionally, good luck on all your finals!

PS: Happy Birthday Alexandra!!! (thanks to Lydia for that reminder)

Robert Bowen Presents | The Daily Daily

UMCD, MFCD, CDA, the DNC, the MDP, or any other organizations or

+ Two of the Daily’s top stories today are that the Law School has
restricted access to its Reading Room for undergrads, and that the
Museum of Art received a significant grant. This is more boring than
my high school’s morning announcements.

+ Rick Snyder believes that Michigan universities are “overproducing”
graduates. Yeah, the problem is definitely too many well-educated
people, not a lack of job creation. Although, in a sense he’s right:
if UofM hadn’t graduated him we would be better off.

Cameron Summers Presents | The Daily Daily

The following does not express the opinions of UMCD or its affiliations.

+There’s a photo of The Espresso Book Machine in action on the front cover. The accompanying article discusses the future of publishing in the face of emerging technologies. But I really just skimmed it so that I have more time to get to the UGLi and check out the Machine in person.

+Steve Burns resigns as coach of Michigan soccer, claims it is time for a “new direction in my life.” I wish you luck, sir. (more…)

Re: The National Defense Authorization Act

To the House, Senate, and our President Barack Obama

You know better than to let this be. (link to Slate Article)

I should not have to say much more… you know what we concerned people want changed.

Thank you.

Cain Starting to Crack

Herman Cain continues to tout his tax plan, quoting NBC news he stated “9-9-9. 9-9-9. We’re doing fine.” According to some though, Cain might not be doing so fine. In light of rumors about an alleged 13-year affair, Kinda Hasen, Cain’s deputy campaign manager, has said that “just as every time a significant event occurs, a reassessment is prudent.” The rumors of infidelity have been one of many bumps in the road for Cain’s campaign. He flubbed on the issue of China, claiming that the country is a “military threat” since they are seeking to develop nuclear capabilities. Unfortunately for Herman, China already developed nuclear weapons…about 40 years ago. But no need to worry, America. I’m sure if Cain wins the presidential race he will be perfectly capable of carrying out his duties. After all, he’s been studying up on these issues for months.
