Charlie Sheen is on the last leg of his live ‘Torpedo of Truth’ tour, but still has plenty to say.
On Saturday night, he revealed startling news about his love life to a crowd in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (many of whom reportedly scored tickets after Sheen offered them free on Twitter), confessing that he was down to just one “goddess,” because porn star Bree Olson left him.
And she dumped him via text message, according to RadarOnline.com. During a Q&A segment, an audience member reportedly asked the fired ‘Two and Half Men’ star how he and his two “goddesses” were doing. The actor replied, “Not well, because one left.” Sheen also admitted that Olson informed him in a text.
Olson, 23, and Natalie Kenly, 24, had been doing cameos together on stage during Sheen’s live tour stops, often making out in the spotlight.
Just one night before Sheen delivered his break-up news, he was onstage in Tampa pleading for support in resuming his lucrative sitcom career. Comic Jeffrey Ross was on hand with roast-style zingers like, “You made your dad ashamed to share the same fake name with you,” (Martin Sheen’s original surname is Estevez) and a crack about Hosni Mubarek having better odds of getting his job back.
Yet the 45-year-old TV star, who once ranted on every medium he could find about ‘Two and a Half Men,’ sounded unusually hopeful about his future on CBS. “With your support, with a room full of love,” Sheen told the crowd, “we are going to get my job back.”
(Nevermind the fact that lawyers for Warner Bros. TV just issued a statement denying any such thing: “There have been no discussions, there are no discussions, and there will be no discussions regarding his returning to, or having any involvement in, the series.”)
The St. Petersburg Times reports that more than a third of the 3,000 seat venue in Tampa was empty. When a woman in the audience flashed Sheen, he replied, “You know you’re at a Charlie Sheen show when it’s Good Friday and there’s nudity….It’s Great Friday.”
Palm Christian Marketing will kick off its 2011 Knoxville Summer Fest on Tuesday, June 14 on the Performance Lawn at World’s Fair Park with a fun-filled day of music, stand-up comedy, festival games and more.
The event, presented in corporate partnership with Fox Toyota and Moore Freight Services, is held annually to help financially support one local non-profit Christian ministry per year.
The charitable aspect coupled with the carnival atmosphere is what gives Summer Fest its charm, according to Mason Forbis, a senior at UT.
“I went to Summer Fest 2010 with my family, and we all had an incredible time. It is great to have an event like this that is truly all for charity,” said Forbis.
PCMI recognizes that most non-profit organizations have an annual budget that depends entirely on its fundraising abilities. With anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000 in donations required in order to stay afloat, these groups need help from the greater Knoxville community.
The profits from this year’s festival will go to Lost Sheep Ministry, an organization dedicated to helping the large homeless community in Knoxville.
Pre-purchased tickets are $10 and $15 on the day of the event, which begins at noon. With things ranging from face painters, clowns, and stand-up comedy from Mike Williams and David Ferrell, it promises to be a fun-filled day for everyone, with philanthropy at the heart of it.
“The festival is a fun time for everyone around, but the fact that we’re doing all of this to help the less fortunate brings a sense of accomplishment along with it,” said Forbis.
“Once Upon A Monster” is a licensed game based on a PBS children’s show. Yes, it’s primarily geared towards an audience that’s likely much younger than you. But here’s why you should care: this game is genuinely fun, filled with Double Fine’s trademark humor, and is officially a part of an unfortunately diminutive number of games that have me excited about Kinect.
If you think about it, a Sesame Street game really isn’t much of a stretch for the Double Fine team. To be fair, when Warner Bros. announced “Once Upon A Monster” back in February, if the “Brutal Legend” developer’s name wasn’t attached I may not have even given it a second look. Double Fine’s games have always been full of lighthearted – yet somehow simultaneously highbrow – humor, and I’m pleased to report their design influence is very apparent in this new Kinect title.
“Once Upon A Monster” is told through six chapters, literally sending you into a Sesame Street story book. There’s a different monster attached to each of those chapters, and your goal – as an assorted cast of popular Sesame Street characters – is to assist each monster in moving past their problems. The game doesn’t focus on mastering the alphabet or learning your numbers, instead it’s all about the environment, dealing with emotions, and physical fitness. What’s great about that premise is that as a parent playing the game with your kid, or even just an adult playing for fun, you’re able to enjoy the story without the usual monotony of most family titles.
When I played the game’s demo at E3, I stepped into the motion-controlled shoes of Cookie Monster. We were trying to help a big, gravely voiced monster named Grrhoof in his quest to befriend a group of forest creatures called Puffalopes.
The first sequence has you imitating Grrhoof’s movements, e.g. stomping your feet, waving your arms back and forth. As I flailed my arms above my head, Grrhoof told me to “wave your arms in the air, wave them like you just don’t care.” It was little moments like that when Double Fine’s influence was most apparent, and I was told that Tim Schafer himself had penned a large portion of the game’s dialog.
Progressing through the game, you’ll also be able to play as Sesame Street standbys Oscar The Grouch and Grover. The action varies, too, occasionally tasking you with performing other activities like running obstacle courses or even using the Kinect’s on-board mic to supply your own narration to the story.
As a parent of two small children, “Once Upon A Monster” is looking like a sure bet. While I understand that it may not immediately appeal to some gamers, I realized something important as I stood there in the middle of E3, passersby watching me as I grabbed imaginary lightning bugs out of the empty air. If you’re willing to let yourself go every now and then, dropping the modern pretense that every game needs to exude some gritty, adult theme – there’s still a whole lot of innocent fun to be had with video games.
Just because a game is designed as a family title, it doesn’t mean it has to be played with a kid. Sometimes, it just feels great to remember what it’s like to be one.

Researchers report that girls whose food intake most resembled the Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet had the smallest gains in body mass index (BMI) over 10 years, and the lowest BMIs at the end of the follow-up period.
An eating plan originally touted to reduce high blood pressure in adults has been found to keep adolescent girls trimmer between the ages of 9 and 19.
The DASH diet emphasizes higher consumption of low-fat dairy products; fish, chicken and lean meats; and nuts, fruits, whole grains, vegetables and legumes. Multiple studies have indicated the diet, long promoted by the American Heart Association, leads to significant blood pressure reduction.
“I think these were the results we were hoping to find,” said study author Dr. Jonathan Berz, an assistant professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. “It’s true, on the one hand, that this is common sense. What’s perhaps new is that few studies look at overall eating patterns in relation to weight gain compared to individual foods, and over a long period.
“The study is published in the June issue of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.
Berz and his colleagues examined data from 2,237 girls, starting at age 9, who participated in the National Growth and Health Study and were followed for up to a decade. Data was gathered annually and each participant was given a DASH food group score based on how closely their diet resembled the DASH diet.
The girls logged their food intake once a year in three-day diet records extending for two weekdays and one weekend day. They were trained by a nutritionist to record the information using standard household measuring instruments to estimate portion sizes.
Girls with the highest DASH scores gained the least weight. They also ate more fruits, whole grains and low-fat dairy products than other participants. At age 19, more girls in the lowest DASH score group had an average BMI greater than the threshold for being overweight.
Dr. Mitchell Roslin, chief of bariatric surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, said young people tend to have better success at weight control with behavioral therapy and dietary education. But he feels the message of the study is probably lost on most Americans, who continue to grow heavier despite the prevalence of nutritional information.
Seventeen percent of American children are overweight, according to the study, and more than two-thirds of adults are either overweight or obese.
“I don’t necessarily feel the results are earth-shattering or incredibly impressive, but I think people have to give up on the [idea] that we can educate ourselves out of the obesity epidemic,” Roslin said.
One benefit for young people who follow the DASH diet will be better overall health as they age, said Dr. Joseph Diamond, a fellow at the American Society of Hypertension.
“There’s going to be less likelihood to progress to hypertension, either if they’re genetically prone or because of poor lifestyle,” said Diamond, also director of nuclear cardiology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, N.Y. “It’s going to help prevent heart attack at that classic middle age, where it’s so prevalent. And I think starting between 9 and 19 is the right time to do it.”

News that a fourth game in the series is in development should come as no surprise at all. Halo is a cash cow and a system seller for Microsoft, and they will keep it running for as long as it remains popular. What we don’t know is what the plan for the game is, but it seems likely this will be an Xbox 360 game rather than a launch title for a new machine.
Everyone expects E3 to be dominated by details of the Wii 2 and probably some more information on Sony’s PS Vita handheld. But Microsoft may just steal the attention of attendees and the gaming press with news of Halo 4 actually existing and being in development. That development must be some way along if Microsoft intends to demo the game at the show this week.
We don’t have long to wait to find out more as E3 is the intended place for the game’s announcement so we will know specifics in a few hours. Let’s hope it’s more than just a teaser video running on a loop.

The NFL star left the Oneida Correctional Facility in central New York, hugging sports agent/guru Drew Rosenhaus on his way out.
Burress pled guilty in August, 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon after accidentally shooting himself in an NYC nightclub.
Burress — who played for the New York Giants — wants to play again if an NFL team is willing to roll the dice.
According to the New York Daily News, the Philadelphia Eagles have shown interest in the one-time Super Bowl champion.
Eagles star quarterback told Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese late last month that he thinks Burress “would be a great addition” for the team.
The 33-year-old’s former teammate Brandon Jacobs said last week that the receiver will not be playing with the New York Giants in 2011.
“That’s out of the question,” Jacobs told the Newark Star-Ledger. “He’s got options, and it’s good he can weigh his options. I would love him to be a part of the Giants, but I don’t think that’s even on his plate.”

The home of country music star Trace Adkins, located in Brentwood, Tenn., south of Nashville, caught fire on a hot Saturday afternoon with children inside. No one was hurt.
As the singer’s wife, Rhonda, returned home from errands, she saw black smoke in the sky and rushed to the house, where her kids were with a babysitter. The singer and ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ alum was flying to Alaska for a concert and was thought to be on a plane while the massive fire was being extinguished.
The entire Brentwood Fire Department, including off-duty firefighters, battled the flames engulfing the Adkins’ home, reportedly arriving five minutes after the emergency was called in around 3:30 p.m. Photos of the damage were published by The Tennessean. The home was the family’s primary residence for 11 years.
The couple’s three daughters, the babysitter and another neighborhood child were watching a movie when they heard a huge crash. They thought it might have been something that had fallen in the cabinets in the kitchen. When the babysitter didn’t see anything in the kitchen, she inspected the garage, where the dryer had been turned over, and fire and smoke permeated the air.
The babysitter quickly got the children and the dogs out of the house, and called 9-1-1. The girls had enacted a safety plan they had practiced in case of fire: as a marker, they had placed a big piece of yellow tape on a tree outside as a safe place to go if their house ever caught fire.
Upon losing most of the home’s contents in the blaze (valuables in the basement, including music industry awards, were allegedly rescued), Rhonda told Nashville’s WSMV-TV, the local NBC affiliate, “It’s just stuff.” She said she’ll miss some “artifacts that had great memories, but they’re just going to have to be in my mind now.” She added that nothing compared to the safety of her family.
