How do I log in?
Logging into mediabistro.com is fast and easy. Just follow these steps:
1. Go to the login page.
2. Enter your email and password in the right side of the page.
You're logged in! On Your
Account page you can manage your account, subscribe
or unsubscribe to the emails you receive, change your party city, edit your
personal profile, and more. You can always check the box next to "Remember
Me"
so you won't have to log in again. But be sure to write down your email address
and password just in case.
I've entered my email and password and still can't log in. Why?
The password field is case-sensitive! Make sure you enter the original email
address you registered with.
Be sure you have the correct email address and password. Remember, your password
is CASE-SENSITIVE.
I forgot my password. How can I retrieve it?
You can always click FORGOT
PASSWORD on the LOGIN PAGE. OR, click here,
and we will email you your password.
I have the right email and password, and I still can't seem to log in. What
now?
You may not thave COOKIES enabled in your web browser. Below are instructions
for enabling cookies for the most popular browsers.

You can find the latest versions of your favorite web browser at CNET's Download.com. You can also usually check for updates by going to the Help menu or your browser.I've tried everything. I still can't login! Now what?
If you're on a Mac and using an older version of IE (5.0 or lower), try using Firefox or Netscape instead. If you're on a PC and using IE 5.0 or lower, you should consider downloading the latest version. You can download any of these browsers for free at CNET's Download.com or at the respective vendor's website. How do I change my login email address?
Simply go to the Login
& Email Lists page. Erase the email address displayed and enter a new
one. Then click "Submit." This will also affect all your email subscriptions.
Then you must log out (located in the Login Box), and then log back in for the
new change to take effect.
How do I change my login password?
Visit the Login
& Email Lists page, enter a new password, and click "Submit."
Then you must log out (located in the Login Box), and then log back in for the
new change to take effect.
Job Listings |
I saw a great job listed on your website, but now it's gone. What happened?
Employers add and remove job postings themselves, so chances are that they've
either filled the position or have received enough applicants.
All the jobs I see on the job listings page are from a previous date. Are
there no new jobs since then? What happened?
Since new jobs are constantly posted on our site, this is most likely a
browser issue--you'll need to update your browser's cache by hitting Ctrl+F5
on your keyboard or clicking the refresh/reload button on your web browser.

How do I change my screen name on the bulletin board?
Click here to change
your screen name to whatever you like ("Conde Nast Editrix" or "Anonymous
Writer," for example). You must be logged in first.
Can people see my email address when I post to the bulletin board?
The bulletin board automatically defaults a user's email to be private and
non-viewable. But, when you are on the "Post Reply" page, you can
check the option to "Link message to your email address." This will
enable people to email you via your post on the bulletin board.

I accidentally posted twice on the bulletin board, or otherwise want my
posts removed.
You will not be able to delete or edit any of your posts. In cases like
this, just email us and we will remove the posts.
I'm interested in moderating a discussion on the bulletin board.
Great! We'd love to hear from you. You'll want to email
us with: 1) the subject and title of your proposed moderation 2) a .jpg
of yourself 3) the first text of your post (usually a paragraph or two, ending
with a few sentences opening the topic up to the group) 3) a few lines of bio
that will accompany your screen name.
I find a certain thread or post to be offensive. What do I do?
Notify
us immediately and we will evaluate the situation and determine whether
the content violates our Terms of Service.

Why can't I see my Personal Home Page with my URL?
By default, your page is set to Hidden while you work on it. To make
it Public, click on the Access
Settings link in the Personal Home Page preferences.
My Job Alert Emails |
Why don't I receive my job alerts any more?
Check your alert status and email frequency on Your
Saved Searches page. If you would like to receive alerts via email your
Alert Status should be ON and Email Frequency should be daily or weekly.
My job alerts are on, but I'm still not getting them. What gives?
Remember, ALL of the fields you fill in (or boxes you check) must be true
in order for us to send you a job alert. The more criteria you specify in the
job alert, the fewer jobs you will be notified about. Fewer criteria will broaden
the range and amount of jobs you will receive.

How do I subscribe to mediabistro.com emails?
Subscribing has never been easier! Here's how to do it:
1. Select Login
& Subscriptions in the Your
Account area and you will be routed to a registration page.
2. Fill out all of the required fields. Remember the more you fill in (job title,
address, etc.) the easier it is for us to work for you!
3. We offer several different mailing lists.
Revolving Door Newsletter (bi-weekly): AvantGuild members receive
a break-down of comings and goings in the media world twice a week.
Media News Feed (daily): Sign up to receive a daily dose of news
about the media world.
Media Happenings (occasional): Our parties, classes, readings
and other events are all included on this email list.
Exclusive Cocktail Party Invites: We apologize in advance that
we cannot invite every registrant to every party (we have thousands of people
on our list now!). However, most users will receive 1 to 3 invites per year.
The best way to make sure you get invited to the most appropriate parties for
you (e.g. freelance parties if you're a freelancer, editorial staffer parties
if you're in editorial) is to make sure your
profile is current.

How do I add mediabistro.com emails to my contacts or safe senders list?
To ensure delivery of our emails add
mailer@email.mediabistro.com to
your address book or approved
senders list. See instructions for your email system below: AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail,
Gmail, Thunderbird, Netscape, Outlook, Others.
AOL
You will need to add our "From address", mailer@email.mediabistro.com, to your AOL address book:
- Click the Mail menu and select Address Book.
- Wait for the "Address Book" window to pop up, then click the Add button.
- Wait for the "Address Card for New Contact" window to load.
- Once loaded, cut and paste mailer@email.mediabistro.com into the "Other E-Mail" field.
- Make our From address the "Primary E-Mail" address by checking the associated check box.
- Click the Save button.
Yahoo
You will need to set up a filter to redirect our email into your inbox:- Open your mailbox and click on Mail Options (upper right hand corner).
- Select Filters (bottom left corner).
- Click the Add link on the Filters page.
- Update the "From header:" rule with the following 2 pieces of information: "contains" and mailer@email.mediabistro.com. This essentially allows the mail server to identify our email communication based on the email's *From* address.
- Click the Choose Folder pull down menu and select inbox.
- Select the Add Filter button.
Hotmail
You will need to add our From address, mailer@mediabistro.com to your Gmail Contacts List:- Click Contacts along the left side of any Gmail page.
- Click Add Contact.
- Copy and paste our From address, mailer@email.mediabistro.com into the primary email address dialog box.
- Click Save.
- Click Spam along the left side of any Gmail page.
- Check mark the box next to our email.
- Click Not Spam button along the top.
Gmail
You will need to add our From address, mailer@mediabistro.com to your Gmail Contacts List:
- Click Contacts along the left side of any Gmail page.
- Click Add Contact.
- Copy and paste our From address, mailer@email.mediabistro.com into the primary email address dialog box.
- Click Save.
- Click Spam along the left side of any Gmail page.
- Check mark the box next to our email.
- Click Not Spam button along the top.
Mozilla Thunderbird
You will need to add our From address, mailer@mediabistro.com, to your Thunderbird Address Book and configure your Junk Mail Controls to white list your address book. Add our From address into your Personal Address Book:
- Click the Address Book button.
- Make sure the Personal Address Book is highlighted.
- Click the New Card button. This will launch a New Card window that has 3 tabs: Contact, Address & Other.
- Under the Contact tab, copy and paste our "From" address, mailer@email.mediabistro.com, into the Email dialog box.
- Click OK.
You can also right-click any email address you see in Thunderbird and select "Add to Address Book."
Now white list your Personal Address Book:
- From the main drop down menu, select "Tools -> Junk Mail
Controls..."
- This will launch the Junk Mail Controls window that
has two tabs:
Settings and Adaptive Filter
- Under the Settings tab, update the "White Lists" module
by selecting Personal Address Book from the pull down menu and then
check mark the box next to "Do not mark messages as junk mail".
- Click OK.
Netscape
Netscape Mail Web-Based Email
has no filters and spam protection. Therefore, you can enjoy our email without
do anything further, because it will not be mistakenly filtered.
Outlook
You will need to add our From address, mailer@mediabistro.com, to your Safe Senders list:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Preferences tab, click Junk E-mail.
- On the Safe Senders tab, click Add.
- In the Add address, copy and paste in our From address, mailer@email.mediabistro.com.
Click OK.
Others
If you use a Web mail system or email application not listed above, the instructions for white listing our email address will depend on the specific email program you are using. If you access the help files, instruction manual or customer support, there should be instructions on how to do this.
In most cases, just adding our From address, mailer@email.mediabistro.com, to your address book, safe list, white list or contact list will be sufficient.
If our updates are not getting to your inbox, then we suggest checking your spam folder, bulk folder or junk folder. If you find our email there, you will need to find a way to inform your mail application that it is not spam. Most likely the course of action is to select our email and click on the Not Spam or Not Junk button, if available. For more information about your mail application, please visit the help section that is associated with your email client/email application.

What is my login for AvantGuild?
Your AG membership is associated with the login email address and password for
your mediabistro.com registration.
I see refund details for New York and Wired magazine. Does this mean I still
have to pay for them if I don't want them?
No, you are not charged for the magazine subscriptions. However, you are entitled
to a refund the subscription price for a year if you do not want the magazines and live in the U.S.
These are the policies of the magazines.
My account is not recognizing me as an AvantGuild member. What do I do?
Make sure you are logged in with the registration associated with your membership.
If you recently signed up, you may need to log out of your account if you were
being automatically logged in.
How to I view and print a receipt for my AvantGuild membership?
You can view receipts for all mediabistro.com transactions by clicking Your
Account at the top of the homepage, and then View Payment History, which is located under the "Subscriptions and Purchases" category.
I am interested in taking advantage of the health insurance offerings available
with my AvantGuild membership. Where can I get information about rates, etc?

My AvantGuild personal home page is not appearing when I enter the URL.
By default, your page is set to "hidden" mode when you are creating
it. When you are ready to show it to the world, click on Access Settings from the personal home page preview, set your page to "public,"
and then click submit to save the change.
Will the cost of my AvantGuild membership increase if I choose a magazine?
The magazine subscription does not affect the cost of your AvantGuild membership
in any way.
If I'm not paying for the magazine, why am I eligible for a refund?
According to the guidelines of the Audit Bureau of Circulation, publishers are
required to offer you a refund if you choose not to receive an included magazine
subscription.
Why haven't I received my magazines yet?
Has it been eight weeks since your order? It can sometimes take that long for
your subscription information to be processed and your subscription to begin.
If it's been longer than that and you still haven't received anything, call

I need to change the mailing address where I receive my magazine. Should
I email mediabistro.com about this?
No, you should contact the customer service department for the individual magazine
(see phone numbers above). Once we submit your information to the magazine companies,
the process is entirely out of our hands, and you're considered a normal subscriber
to the magazine.
I already have a subscription to this magazine. Will I start getting two
issues every month?
No, any existing subscriptions will be extended by an additional year. However,
to avoid any confusion, please make sure you sign up using the same name and
address as on your current subscription.
I started getting a magazine when I joined AvantGuild last year. Now the
magazine is sending me renewal notices. What should I do?
If you plan on renewing your AvantGuild membership and want to keep receiving
the same magazine, just select it on the form and your subscription will be
renewed. You can ignore any renewal notices you receive from the magazine.
