Perhaps the monolithic, trans-national corporations have always been a major force in the conduct of public policy. However, to my knowledge, it has never been so blatant, nor has there been an administration of the U.S. Government that has so thumbed its nose at the will of the governed. Not since the days of the Red scare has it ever seemed that conformity and consensus are seen as "patriotism." It seems that "Americanism" is now defined as "flags per SUV." I do not use illegal drugs, but those that do are accused of "helping the terrorists," while those that burn gasoline at 11 miles per gallon are not. Is there a bit of disconnect here? Why is there no outrage? Is a call for reasonable discourse suddenly unpatriotic? Revolutions
have
been waged by those courageous enough to buck the
status quo, including the Revolution of 1776! The
apathetic are sheep. Never before has it been
more true than today the phrase: If the opinions stated on this site cause me to be a target of the leaders of the right wing and their reactionary shills, then I've fulfilled a noble purpose with my head unbowed. If you are willing to be a sheep, then that is certainly your right. However, it is incumbent upon those who value true liberty not to be led to the slaughter with you, or, if we must be slaughtered, to refuse to go quietly. |

under the provisions of the so-called "USA Patriot Act."
It is obvious that
the imperious cabal in power in the government of the
U.S.A. is able to rationalize any sort of outrage
against its people by appealing to their fear of
"terrorism" (by which the government labels any faction
that stands in opposition with it -- whether by violent
means or not.)
All that is necessary to label someone a "terrorist" is
the say-so of the powers that be, with no evidence
apparently necessary or even wanted.
Your free access to information is being threatened.... horrendous violations of privacy, freedom of association and freedom of speech are being carved away under the pretense of "fighting terrorism." You may say, to the effect that you are violating no laws, therefore you are not a target. If those in power have their way, you will be, eventually, unless you conform to their bland vision. This issue is not partisan.... it matters not whether you are Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Green, or independent.
