Congratulations to Governor-elect Strickland on his election, congratulations to the voters of Ohio for making sure that J. Kenneth Blackwell did not solidify his grip on power in Ohio, and congratulations to the grassroots election protection movement for watching and making sure that another election was not stolen.
I have not yet formally conceded because I want to be sure that every vote is counted before doing so. Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who gave their support this year, and especially to our hard-working staff, donors and volunteers, and our Green Party colleagues. The campaign for governor is coming to a close, but the campaign for a fraud-free, one-person-one-vote democracy continues.

ABSTRACT: "This paper presents a fully independent security study of a Diebold AccuVote-TS voting machine, including its hardware and software. We obtained the machine from a private party. Analysis of the machine, in light of real election procedures, shows that it is vulnerable to extremely serious attacks. For example, an attacker who gets physical access to a machine or its removable memory card for as little as one minute could install malicious code; malicious code on a machine could steal votes undetectably, modifying all records, logs, and counters to be consistent with the fraudulent vote count it creates. An attacker could also create malicious code that spreads automatically and silently from machine to machine during normal election activities — a voting-machine virus. We have constructed working demonstrations of these attacks in our lab. Mitigating these threats will require changes to the voting machine's hardware and software and the adoption of more rigorous election procedures."

November 9, 2006: Thanks to all of you who participated in and supported our historical and inaugural statewide campaign for the Green Party in Ohio. In many ways, the campaign was key in defeating Ken Blackwell. For two years, often while the Democrats ducked and covered, our independent and tenacious army of election rights activists unflinchingly attacked Blackwell and his corrupt cronies.
