laugh in 1968

As the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour dominated 1967, Rowan and Martin's Laugh In even more so dominated 1968. The cast was large and made of names we remember today: Gary Owens, Ruth Buzzi, Judy Carne, Flip Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr., Richard Dawson, Arte Johnson, Henry Gibson, Jo Anne Worley, Dave Madden and of course Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin who became super stars. Top celebrities like John Wayne and and politicians like Richard Nixon often walked on to do a few seconds of the shows hip phrases: Sock it to me, You bet your bippy, Here come de judge!, and Beautiful Downtown Burbank. The fast paced hip and often slapstick humor was a hit in the serious days of the Vietnam War and racial strife making it one of the most successful shows in television history.
