Here We Go Again: Olbermann, Current TV Clash

It was just under a year ago that Keith Olbermann left MSNBC in dramatic fashion. Now the primetime host is once again having issues with his employer, this time in the form of Current TV.

The latest developments: Olbermann’s lawyer, Hollywood power attorney Patty Glaser (who repped Conan O’Brien during his battle with NBC) is negotiating with Current TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Exactly what those negotiations entail is a mystery for now.

The New York Times reports that the issue at hand is one of control. When Olbermann joined Current, he was given equity in the channel, as well as the title of chief news officer. Since then Current added a president in David Bohrman, and Joel Hyatt took over as CEO. In addition, Olbermann’s “Countdown” has suffered from technical snafus, issues beyond the control of him or his staff.

Next week is the New Hampshire primary, and unlike Iowa, Olbermann may be at the center of Current’s coverage:

Fox News Leads in coverage from Iowa; Peaks with 3.1 Million at 10pm

During the long night that was the 2012 Iowa Caucus, Fox News came out on top in the ratings. For the first contest of the 2012 GOP presidential nomination process, FNC averaged 2.6 million Total Viewers in primetime. That’s about what the network does on an average night, but it doubled CNN’s take of 1.3 million (which is about double what CNN does on an average night). FNC also lead in A25-54 viewers averaging 683,988. Among the three cable news channels, Fox News was also the only one to see Total Viewer and A25-54 increases from the 2008 Iowa Caucus, when Democrats and Republicans both had candidates vying for their party’s nomination.

Jeff Glor ‘Happy To Be Back’ To Weekend Edition of ‘CBS Evening News’

After a year on “The Early Show,” CBS News’ Jeff Glor will officially begin his new role as Sunday “Evening News” anchor this weekend.

Glor anchored the Saturday edition of “Evening News” for more than a year before being named news anchor for “The Early Show” in 2010.

“I’m very excited,” he tells TVNewser. “I missed doing Saturday nights. I’m happy to be back.”

Glor praised weekday anchor Scott Pelley, who took over for Katie Couric while Glor was away from the “Evening News” anchor desk.

“The biggest difference is who’s in that chair Monday through Friday,” Glor says. “I think that Scott and his team are doing an extraordinary job. And I think my job is to try to help them hold down the fort one night a week. It’s an honor, and it’s something I don’t take lightly.”

NBC Takes Pulse of Facebook Users Ahead of Sunday’s Debate

Now that Iowa is behind us, it’s on to New Hampshire. ABC airs a GOP debate Saturday night and NBC has one Sunday morning — both with one less candidate — as a special “Meet the Press” and in conjunction with Facebook.

MTP goes live at 9amET each Sunday, but airs at various times on NBC affiliates across the country. But this Sunday, the debate will also air live on MSNBC at 9am. At the same time, this page will be up and running for Facebook users to ask questions and share thoughts about the candidates.

For the past few months NBC News and Facebook have been asking voting-age users what they think is the most pressing issue facing them. Here’s the break down:

Evening News Ratings: Week of December 26

“NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” ended 2011 the way it began: as the #1 evening newscasts in Total Viewers and A25-54 viewers.

“Nightly” kept a +700,000 lead on #2 ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer” which continues to cut its margins with the NBC program. Compared to the same week last year all three shows were down in all measurements, due to a news-filled final week of 2010 which included a blizzard.

“Nightly” and “Evening News” are based on 4-day averages (Tuesday-Friday), while “World News” is based on a 3-day average (Tuesday-Thursday).

Numbers for the week of December 26, 2011:

NBC ABC CBS
• Total Viewers: 8,706,000 7,956,000 6,159,000
• A25-54: 2,356,000 2,154,000 1,805,000

New Year, New High for ’60 Minutes’

Sunday’s New Year’s Day edition of “60 Minutes” finished as the third most-watched show of the week and was the most-watched non-sports program of the holiday week.

The program, which started late due to the overrun of the San Diego-Oakland game, drew 14.45 million Total Viewers to rank #3 for the week. The show also made the Top 10 in households at #3, scoring an 8.7 rating and 14 share, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings.

Sunday’s broadcast featured Lesley Stahl‘s profile of Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), a special report from Alison Stewart on a college entrance exam cheating scandal, and a re-air of Lara Logan’s story about freestyle climber Alex Honnold.
