I’m an outlaw, not a hero is Honey Dugan’s blog about life in Thoiry in the Rhone Alpes.

Honey is an American living in France with her husband, Dan, who is a scientist and does something  incomprehensible with photons or protons or Higgs Boson Particles or… something like that!

Honey is rather a fan of Baseball which, in it’s own way, is equally incomprehensible to me!

The blog starts in January 2010 with Honey just married to the aforementioned Frenchman and still living in Philadelphia.

From that first post, it is only a few weeks and maybe 6 or 7 posts before the blog really takes off with the post about The Ferney-Voltaire Saturday Market.

She likes her markets, doesn’t she?

Well, she certainly seems to.

Honey thoughtfully gives as a French Word of the Day:Marché where she explains, in photos and words her obsession.

And “Espionage! Espionage! Espionage!” is all about being caught red-handed whilst taking photos as the market.  This post does include the obligatory, for a Life in France blog, photo of A Monkfish with a lemon in its mouth!

Fans of Polka Dot cabbage really do need to rush to the Saturday Market at Ferney-Voltaire where there is also useful information about the brain eating zombie game!

Thirsty?  Cold?  How about a glass of mulled wine at (where else?) The Saturday Market at Ferney-Voltaire?

Well, that’s Saturdays sorted but, what do they get up to on Sundays?

There’s always the Sunday Market at Thoiry, isn’t there?

Tartiflette is almost a religion, isn’t it?

When Honey met Tartiflette it had to be love at first taste?  She goes as far as to say… In Tartiflette we trust!

Quite right too!  We love it here in this little part of rural Brittany too… Although I think that Mrs A Taste of Garlic can’t be following the recipe as Tartiflette is generally known as Fartiflette in our house!  For reasons I won’t go into!

And Friday Night becomes Tartiflette Night chez Honey and hubby.  I wonder why that is, then?

Whilst we’re on the subject of food (now, there’s a surprise!) I’ll mention this post about Gherkins which also talks about that brain eating zombie game!

Out and about…..

A trip to Geneva (part 1, part 2 and part 3) is a nice break for Honey.

But we’re even treated to some wanderings in Ferney-Voltaire and a look at Voltaire’s Chateau.  Now, I’ve never read Voltaire but, anyone who can say (three months before his death – you could say he was ahead of his time)… “I die adoring God, loving my friends, not hating my enemies, and detesting superstition” has got to be a pretty cool dude!

And bike riding……..

The coolest thing, in my opinion, to use to go down to the boulangerie (after a Citroen 2CV of course) is Schwinn pushbike!  Preferably a blue one as these are known to go faster but, green ones are pretty fast as well!  And, can anyone else remember Sturmey Archer gears?  And just look at that fin on the front mudguard!   What’s not to love about this bike?

Honey doesn’t stop there; there’s more bike love with More bike riding fun… complete with sunflowers!

Then, on a hot and sunny day, there was A bike ride through St. Jean de Gonville…. Does this photo make anyone else think about Manon des Sources?

Hold on, I’ve missed some markets!

Would you believe it but… there are even more posts about markets!

Honey almost buys some clogs in Adventures in French shopping before rushing off to, where else, a Double Market Saturday Extravaganza!

And, as if that weren’t enough…. Honey breaks all enthusiasm barriers with… To Market, to Market… otherwise known as Happy Sunday!

And look at that wickerwork motorbike – how cool is that?

The only problem is… just how am I going to explain to Mrs A Taste of Garlic that my life won’t be complete until I have a wicker basket granny cart?

So, summing up……

It has to be said that there’s a lot about French markets here on I’m an outlaw, not a hero!

Perhaps I should offer Honey some work on my new site FrenchMarketDays.com?

However, even if you’re not too keen on French Markets (and if that is the case, I’m sure that medical science will come up for a treatment for you soon!), how could you fail to be impressed with posts like this one about Ferney Market Week which includes, not one but two, photos of that epitome of French style and panache… The Citroen 2CV!

And yes, one of them is blue!  Everyone knows that the blue ones go faster!

Mind you, look at the chromed headlamps on the red one!  That’s almost as cool as having a fin on the front mudguard of a Schwinn pushbike!

And me?  Well, I’m going to immerse myself in some Sunflowery Gold and then head into Ferny-Voltaire where The cafe is small, the shutters are green…
