On this somber anniversary, a decade forward from September 11th, 2001 it is perhaps even more fitting than before to stop and take a moment to pause on the enormity of just what transpired on that day, and what has transpired since.
We must thank the countless heroes, both named and unnamed, those who serve overseas to protect our freedoms, and the leaders who strive to keep our nation safe. We must honor those who’ve given their lives in that pursuit. We must solemnly remember those who went about their jobs early that morning, not knowing that their lives would forever change – for some, meaning a family member, a parent, a brother, a spouse, or a child would never come home again. That pain is still real, and will never subside.
We’ll be in Grand Rapids with a collection of progressives from across the West Side of state for the First Friday fundraiser hosted by Elizabeth Lykins, David LaGrand, and Phil Skagg in support of the Youth Caucus.
Here’s a flyer with all the information you’ll need, but we’ll plan on seeing you at 5:30 PM at at 25 Kitchen + Bar (25 Ottawa Ave SW, Suite 100, Grand Rapids, MI - click for a map), in Grand Rapids.
Join us in watching the President’s speech tonight to congress where he’ll outline his plans to put Americans back to work. The White House will be hosting a discusion afterwards, that you can visit here, and has prepared a page of the charts and graphs he’ll be using to present the way forward on creating jobs in America.
The speech will be broadcast on major news channels at 7:00PM this evening. You can watch it online as well.
Support the President as we move toward 2012 by participating in this event.
On this day of our great nation’s birth, we remember that those who founded this country set in motion a great union – a grouping of people with varied beliefs, of varied backgrounds who answered the call to build a nation where fairness, equality, and justice reigned supreme.
It is now, while we celebrate just how far we have come as a nation, that we must keep in mind carrying on the work we’ve done to make this the “land of the free, and the home of the brave.”

Livonia’s native son, Rep. Thad McCotter today threw his hat in the ring to run for President.
Unfortunately we already know of him well: more of the same pandering to the extreme right, a tendency to wrap a lack of substance in his speech around five-dollar words he hopes to confuse his constituents with, and the same anti-middle class policies of killing Medicare and Social Security that we’ve heard from everyone else.
How about we make sure to let everyone know just who he is, right?

Last night, all 7 of the GOP hopefuls who participated in the New Hampshire debates claimed to be one of us, to understand where we’re from, and where we are.
This is impossible.
Join us for the first annual Get In the Game Retreat in downtown Lansing!
This day of action and free training is a great opportunity to get equipped with the tools and plan of action necessary to begin our fight back against the assault on the middle class. We need to take time this summer to build a coalition of young people holding phone banks, petition drives, letter writing, and canvass campaigns across the state of Michigan. Our road to victory in November 2012 begins now!
