Like your website, “YORK BLVD”! Next time I’m visiting relatives in Highland Park, I’ll be visiting York-on-York and doing some shopping at the Fresh&Easy.
Looking forward to more reviews. Any good French food or Mexican food around there?
However, I do like Starbucks Coffee

Say it aint so Joe! (That ryhmed way more than I intended it to.) Antigua and Casa Blue in Highland Park or even Coffee Table and Swork in Eagle Rock serve the same coffee and keeps the $ local. The best French food in the area is at Cafe Beaujolais (1712 Colorado Blvd) or its sister restaurant, Le Petit Beaujolais (1661 Colorado Blvd). As for the best Mexican…well, there’s probably not enough space on the internet. For sit-down, I like El Arco Iris (5684 York Blvd)on York but for tacos, read my posting on street vendors. Good Luck!

Okay, I see, here goes; I remember when…I use to walk to York Blvd., with my dad and Thrifty’s was where the pool hall was and we would go into there and sit at a fountain that curved around the back of the atore like a huge S, I would sit at upholstered stools and have a malt. That was some time ago…my dad would buy cigars at the counter in front. On Ave 50 and York was another drugstore that had a fountain with stools and waitresses with malts and hambugers, and on up York at Avenue 53 on the south side next to the nursery that was there once, there were some buildings and the bottom store was an antique store, anyone remember that?
Also, on Avenue 54 and Monte Vista, same building that is there now, it was a drug store and it also had a fountain where we would get milkshakes, and the drug store was in back. Also, on the same block, at the other end, Goodwill had a store, and my mother use to drag me into it to look around. That was at the corner of Avenue 55 and Monte Vista, the old building is still there. Use to be Boy’s Market across the street. And Pep Boys use to be Safeway, and the Unclaimed Freight store (sign is still there) was on the corner of Ave. 55 and Fig. The same corner as Pep Boys. And here is a memory…Where the Bank of America is now there was a miniature golf course! It was cool, with all kinds of machines that made these coins with your name on them. And a Standard Gas station was across the street where the Rental furniture place is now, which after that was Alfa Beta, then Food for Less….could go on forever…some other time…anybody remember?
