County commissioners send Multnomah County Library Levy to the voters

PORTLAND, Ore.- In a room filled with library supporters, Multnomah County Commissioners approved a proposal to put a library services levy on the May ballot for county residents.

The levy would provide temporary three years of funding but, upon its passage, demands that county commissioners place a proposal creating a permanent library taxing district on the ballot for voters in November.

PORTLAND, Ore.- After serving six years on the Oregon Court of Appeals, former judge Ellen Rosenblum announced her intention Wednesday to run for Oregon Attorney General.

The election to fill the open seat for Attorney General will be held this November.

Fight against Clackamas County light rail continues

OREGON CITY, Ore.- The battle against a light rail system in Clackamas County continued this week with the filing of a petition which would require a public vote on any financing of such a project.

The measure would require a countywide vote on any money used toward the construction, design, financing, or operation of a public rail transit system in the county.

Portland doctor to replace Bonamici in state senate

PORTLAND, Ore.- The Washington and the Multnomah County Boards of Commissioners selected Portland physician Elizabeth Steiner Hayward to fill the 17th Oregon Senate District.

The senate seat, which represents parts of west Portland and Washington County, was vacated upon the resignation of Democrat Suzanne Bonamici.

Court rejects protections on inmates’ legal mail

December 21, 2011

SALEM, Ore.- The Oregon State Court of Appeals released an opinion Wednesday, ruling that the Constitution doesn’t protect inmates’ legal mail.

Jacob Barrett’s attorney argued that staff from the Oregon State Penitentiary began opening mail from his attorney a few years ago, saying in court documents that this happened “outside of [petitioner’s] presence and without due process.”
