The Post Strikes Out Again: 5 Words on Why We Protest
Does George W. Bush, the 43. president of the United States of America from 2001 until 2009 have problems with his spinal disks? Officially this is not known. In public only his alcoholic problems were well-known, but this has been known already before his election to president. So for the campaign Redefeat Bush this was not a crucial point. The campaign and its homepage might not be proper for being a forum to advertise means which avoid problems with spinal discs.
A spinal disk, in German Bandscheibe, is a part of the human backbone. It is responsible for the flexibility of the backbone. If a spinal disk or Bandscheibe is damaged the man or woman must live with pains. People have difficulties to move. They are no longer able to lift heavy weight. In most cases they need medical help.
Back pain is one of the diseases which are typical for people living in the industrialized countries. But not in all cases this has physically reasons. Other possible causes like psychical strain, stress, depression, anxiety state or Burn out syndrome might also lead to back pain. One of the most important attributes of a physician is his capacity for empathy. Such a patient must be taken absolutely seriously. Of course it is difficult to decide whether a patient is really ill gelenk or a hypochondriac. But only a bad physician is not able to emphazise with a patient suffering from pains and would let him go without any help. One of the first methods of treatment might be a massage. Especially in the cases of stress or depression it might help. At the time of this therapy you can not do other things, and your thinking will also find a rest. But if the pain is caused by a disease of the Bandscheibe this will not help.
So the physician must look for a variety of reasons if a patient still complains about back pain. At first a herniated vertebral disk or Bandscheibe must be excluded. Today a computerized tomography of the backbone can help him to make a correct diagnosis. If he finds such a damage an operation might be necessary.
Those operations should only be done by experts who are especially experienced. A surgical intervention which hurts the spinal cord might lead to an irreversible defect. In a bad case the patient can become paralysed. Fortunately this is a very rare event.

Winning the Vote, with special car?
If you don't live in DC you prolly have not yet seen Donna Britt's column today, which is about me. Here it is.
I know I should be grateful and happy that it is there, but my
interaction with the Washington Post has been so far from sane it
disturbs me. Years ago political scientists Ben Ginsberg and Ted Lowi
wrote a book called Policide about how a decision could be made by
different government agencies that were rational to each of them but
taken together made no sense at all, and that's how I feel about the
Post. In the past month I've had my op-ed rejected for being "too
topical," if you can believe that. Some earnest and well meaning
reporters have called but they had already written their story before
they called me and wanted to stick a quote in there. "Vote suppression
and fraud on a massive scale to subvert the will of the American
people? Oh, well I'm not writing about that," they each said. No, they
wanted to know if I had any members of Local 22 involved in the
counterinaugural ball and other trivialities (usb stick werbeartikel). When the story is finally
written of how the truth was brought out about the 2004 election,
however long that takes, the Washington Post will be one of the
institutions whose indifference to the truth and hostility toward those
who pursued it was central to keeping it hidden for so long (Weinverkaufswagen).

The Ass To Get a Great Rider: The Doctor is In Again
Below is the list of the people who will decide
who the next chair of the Democratic National Committee is going to be
when they meet early next month. Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean
announced today that he is a candidate for the post, which is arguably
the best news the world's oldest political party has received since,
hmm, since Ross Perot got back into the 1996 presidential race maybe.
If you would like to see Dr. Dean win his race for party chair do NOT
use this list to call the DNC members (restplätze) on the telephone. They will not
appreciate that. Send them a thoughtful letter in which the candidate
you support is obvious from reading just the envelope. Most of the DNC
members do not have a staff to deal with mountains of incoming mail.

Clear Winner of Constitutional Challenge? Ed Markey!
I've had a chance to analyze the list of 31
Members of the House of Representatives who voted against Ohio's
fraudulently obtained electoral votes and it is filled with interesting
surprises. One of our alert members in Massachusetts called his
Representative and asked why he had not supported the challenge and the
aide said that Kerry had asked all the members of the Massachusetts
delegation to reject the challenge. Only two of Massachusetts'
Congressional representatives rejected Kerry's advice, Markey and
Olver. Markey is one of Kerry's closest allies so you have to wonder
what went on there. Markey chaired the Kerry campaign in Massachusetts,
served as the "Point Person" for the Kerry Campaign in Congress and the
Master of Ceremonies at Kerry's official announcement in Boston. I'm
out on a limb here, but I think it means that Senator Kennedy, who will
be 73 next February, does not wish to spend his remaining years in the
Senate and will retire, and that Markey had a chance to beat Barney
Frank for Kennedy's Senate seat in 2006. Sorry Barney, but that giant
sucking sound you hear is the money abandoning your race for higher
office in favor of someone I guess I'm surprised to find out has better
judgement and strength of character. Even if I'm not right about what
will happen next year it is still good to thank Markey with a contribution. The full list of heroes and heroines and their phone and fax numbers is below.

Congressional Physics: How we might have won a much larger victory
Washington 1/8/05 7:25 AM What is the
victory you hope to achieve, Peter Deutsch asked me when he began
making our challenges his own. I told him that it was an extended
debate on what happened in multiple states so that the tens of millions
of Americans who doubt Bush's victory in the presidential election
would double from its current 30 million or so. To see Congress take
several days to award Bush his electoral college victory would have
given us days of public debate and secured the most reasoned
consideration of our allegations of fraud and abuse as we could
possibly hope to achieve by the commercial news media. Instead, we got
our two hours of political theater and achieved historical footnote
status, but in fact with only modestly revised guidance we might have
gotten a great deal further. While Ohio has attracted most of the
post-election attention, in fact it is far easier to make a case to a
Member of Congress that New Mexico and Nevada were improperly awarded
to Bush, and Florida of course virtually invented the modern technique
for stealing elections, which they just got away with again. With all
due respect to that fabulous crew from Ohio, building a case on a
foundation of statistical evidence is lost from the beginning with
Congress. The only numbers that matter to them -- or, for that matter
to judges in an election case -- are the number of votes separating the
two candidates. Bush claimed a dubious victory in NM by 6,000 votes and
in NV by 21,000 votes. It was far easier to show in a few minutes how
those margins were fraudulently obtained.

Me and Mrs. Jones, We Got a Thing Going On
Washington, 1/7/05 10:35 PM A dozen of us
got to have dinner tonight with the woman of the hour -- Representative
Stephanie Tubbs Jones. I've met a whole bunch of Members of Congress
before and I'd say about half of them have had all the color blanched
out of them before they got themselves elected to Congress and the
other half neutered themselves once they got here, thinking that was
the best strategy for continuing to hold public office. Stephanie Tubbs
Jones, on the other hand, is bold, articulate, confident and humble.
She was dazzling, a woman with a very rare gift. Rest in peace Shirley
Chisholm, your legacy is being very well kept indeed.
I'd been impressed with her staff this past week but hadn't met or
spoken with her, so this was my first chance to take my measure of her.
To be honest, the tape measure ran out long before it was able to
dimenson the size of her stature, the strength of her character or the
depth of her resolve.
She told us about how she got to know Barbara Boxer and how the two
became friends, and how it came to be that she would offer a challenge
that was not signed by as many Representatives who wanted to so that
the focus could remain on Ohio and what happened there. A former judge
and prosecutor, it is intuitively obvious that Rep. Jones has rare
agility. It is a rare talent to interact cordially with the opposition
(she introduced herself to Vice President Cheney on the floor) and move
gracefully between and among the various factions of the opposition.
Bill Clinton, of course, is famous for his ability to do this and it is
in no small measure the reason history will remember him as the only
Democrat other than Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt to be
re-elected to the presidency in the 20th century. There is no element
of the tangled tapestry of the opposition who would not listen
carefully to Congresswoman Jones and be pleased. Welcome, Mrs. Jones,
to the national stage.

Run, Run for you lives! That is the advice of
Green Party vice presidential nominee Pat LaMarche in a message posted
widely today, the day after the U.S. Senate reorganized itself into men
(a woman, actually) and sheep (everyone else). Here is what Pat
LaMarche had to say:
Well, they did it. They certified another election
rife with voter interference, corruption, and
intimidation. There is only one thing left for
progressives of all political affiliation to do: Run!

Conyers Opens the First Round with Letter to the Senate Supporting the Challenge
Congressman John Conyers today released copies
of the letter he has sent to all Senators asking that they co-sign the
Constitutional Challenge to Ohio's electors. Conyers and his followers
are smoking them out, starting a week ahead of time, so that it will be
clear to everyone that there is Senatorial support and that there will
be a debate. Masterful politician that he is, he is laying the ground
work not for a symbolic victory but for an actual victory. Here is the
text of his letter:
As you know, on January 6, 2005, at 1:00 P.M, the electoral votes for
the election of the president are to be opened and counted in a joint
session of Congress, commencing at 1:00 P.M. I and a number of House
Members are planning to object to the counting of the Ohio votes, due
to numerous unexplained irregularities in the Ohio presidential vote,
many of which appear to violate both federal and state law. I am hoping
that you will consider joining us in this important effort to debate
and highlight the problems in Ohio which disenfranchised innumerable
voters. I will shortly forward you a draft report itemizing and
analyzing the many irregularities we have come across as part of our
hearings and investigation into the Ohio presidential election.
3 U.S.C. §15 provides when the results from each of the states are
announced, that "the President of the Senate shall call for objections,
if any." Any objection must be presented in writing and "signed by at
least one Senator and one Member of the House of Representatives before
the same shall be received."1. The objection must "state clearly and
concisely, and without argument, the ground thereof." When an objection
has been properly made in writing and endorsed by a member of each body
the Senate withdraws from the House chamber, and each body meets
separately to consider the objection. "No votes . . . from any other
State shall be acted upon until the [pending] objection . . . [is]
finally disposed of." 3 U.S.C. §17 limits debate on the objections in
each body to two hours, during which time no member may speak more than
once and not for more than five minutes. Both the Senate and the House
must separately agree to the objection; otherwise, the challenged vote
or votes are counted.
Historically, there appears to be three general grounds for objecting
to the counting of electoral votes. The language of 3 U.S.C. §15
suggests that objection may be made on the grounds that (1) a vote was
not "regularly given" by the challenged elector(s); and/or (2) the
elector(s) was not "lawfully certified" under state law; or (3) two
slates of electors have been presented to Congress from the same State.
Since the Electoral Count Act of 1887, no objection meeting the
requirements of the Act have been made against an entire slate of state
electors.5 In the 2000 election several Members of the House of
Representatives attempted to challenge the electoral votes from the
State of Florida. However, no Senator joined in the objection, and
therefore, the objection was not "received." In addition, there was no
determination whether the objection constituted an appropriate basis
under the 1887 Act. However, if a State - in this case Ohio - has not
followed its own procedures and met its obligation to conduct a free
and fair election, a valid objection -if endorsed by at least one
Senator and a Member of the House of Representatives- should be debated
by each body separately until "disposed of".

Foreign Press Reporting Kerry to Join the Challenge of FL and OH Electors
Since our privatized state-run media won't lift
a finger to uncover criminal wrongdoing in Ohio, Florida, New Mexico,
Nevada or other states -- their interest being limited to the sexual
misadventures of famous people and scandals involving real estate
transactions -- it falls to the foreign press and Internet-based media
to ferret out the truth. Since the First Amendment is just lying there
on the ground it would be a waste to walk right past it without picking
it up, right? I'm reminded of the important work of "les radios libres"
or free commercial radio stations whose transmitters rang the periphery
of France before commercial broadcasting was legal there. They played a
central role in the uprising in France in 1968 since they were a source
that both sides could trust to give news supported by actual fact,
which the Gaullist state-run media was incapable of airing. ("You are
the director," DeGaulle is reported to have said to the director of
Radio Television France or RTF, "well then direct.") That is what you
should expect here -- hundreds of thousands of invisible people in
Boston and Columbus on 1/3, in San Francisco on 1/4 then here in
Washington on 1/6 and again on 1/20. We cannot be made visible without
courageous people in the news media who are willing to provoke the
revenge of an aggressively vengeful Republican Party, which most surely
will block the mergers, acquisitions and licenses of any corporation
that covers the story. The most interesting recent foreign press story,
regrettably unverifiable, was yesterday's Break for News story about
Kerry allegedly unconceding on Sunday January 2nd.
