The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a new rule requiring health insurance companies to spend 80 percent to 85 percent of your health care insurance premiums on making you healthier instead of overhead costs like advertising or executive pay.

HERE'S THE HEALTH CARE REFORM TIMELINE:
   
  • Premium payment reformed (80% to 85% for medical care).
  • Free Medicare preventative care.


 
  • Half-price brand name prescription drugs for Medicare recipients in donut hole.
  • Grants for employee wellness programs.
  • Employers get help for early retiree coverage.


 
  • Total ban on pre-existing condition denials.
  • Health exchanges open.
  • End to annual limits on benefits.
BENEFITS ALREADY IN PLACE:
   
  • Tax credits for small businesses.
  • Drug help for seniors.
  • Coverage for pre-existing conditions.
   
  • All kids get covered.
  • Can't get dropped if
    you get sick.
  • No more lifetime limits.
  • Children can stay on until 26.


 
  • New rules governing premium increases.
  • New consumer rights to appeal insurance company decisions.
  • Tax credits for small businesses to provide worker health coverage.
  • $250 Medicare prescription drug donut hole rebate.
