    Caroline Kracht: Found her calling as a teacher

    Teaching was an enduring vocation for Caroline Kracht, and the longtime educator delighted in helping students discover the tools necessary to achieve their goals. An elementary school teacher for 43 years, Mrs. Kracht died Feb. 4 at her home in St. Clair Shores after an extended bout with lupus. She was 80.

    Jeff Zaslow, , the West Bloomfield-based author , was eulogized this afternoon by Capt. Chesley (Sully) Sullenberger, the US Airways pilot who landed a plane full of passengers on the Hudson River in New York. Zaslow wrote a book with Sullenberger titled "Highest Duty."

    Disabled ski champ Jill Kinmont Boothe dies at 75

    At age 18, the L.A. native was the national women’s slalom champion and on the cover of Sports Illustrated. She was trying to make the U.S. Olympic team in 1955 when she crashed and broke her neck.

    Record and film superstar Whitney Houston dies

    Houston, who reigned as pop music’s queen until her voice and image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, was 48. She died today in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. See video of her final public appearance at a party Thursday night.

    Jeffrey Zaslow, West Bloomfield best-selling author, killed in northern Michigan crash

    Mr. Zaslow, 53, was a Philadelphia native who was married to Sherry Margolis, a Fox 2 Detroit TV news anchor since 1987, and the father of three daughters. Fox 2 Detroit confirmed Zaslow’s death late this afternoon.

    Mike Kelley, a Detroit-born, internationally renowned artist with roots in Detroit's punk rock scene, has died in an apparent suicide. Kelley was found dead Tuesday at his home in South Pasadena, Calif., according to reports. He was 57.
