Piers Morgan Tonight Getting Guest-Hosts Next Week

CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” is following in the footsteps of its predecessor “Larry King Live,” and having guest-hosts for all of next week while Morgan is in London filming “Life Stories.”

Among those filling in for Morgan: Wolf Blitzer, Glee’s Jane Lynch, Ad exec and NBC regular Donny Deutsch, Rosie O’Donnell and Arsenio Hall. Blitzer will anchor a politically-focused show on Tuesday, with the other hosts covering a wide swath of topics, from entertainment to politics. Blitzer previously filled in for Morgan the evening that Steve Jobs passed away, though the show has never gone a full week with guest-hosts.

“Piers Morgan Tonight” has been tweaking its format recently, including a new segment called ‘Only in America,” where Morgan gives his take on the news of the day.

‘Kony 2012′ Creator Makes the Rounds as Uganda Campaign Goes Viral

As recently as Monday, you may not have known the name Joseph Kony. Now, thanks to a 30-minute film about the Ugandan warlord that has notched more than 50 million YouTube views this week, you almost certainly do

The film, created by Joseph Russell, was featured on all three evening newscasts yesterday, as well as several segments on CNN and MSNBC this week. ABC has also posted a clip online of President Obama calling Kony “a vicious killer” in an October interview with Jake Tapper.

On the “Today” show this morning, Russell talked to Ann Curry about the media coverage of the campaign which has received some criticism over the past week, as our sister site SocialTimes reports:

Russell also appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” yesterday:

Magnet Eating Toddler Nearly Eats More Magnets During Live TV Interview

Live television is rife with risk. On Friday’s “Today” on NBC, viewers saw why.

The program ran a story about a toddler who swallowed a string of “Buckyballs,” which are little marbles with rare earth magnets inside. The toddler and her parents appeared on the program for an interview, with the balls inside of a plastic cup with a lid on it.

The toddler opened up the lid, pulled out the magnets, opened her mouth and…

CNN Turns the Lens On Itself in Syria Special

Sunday at 8 PM, CNN will run a special on the situation in Syria. Unlike many other specials, this one turns the lens on the reporters covering the conflict. Dubbed “72 Hours Under Fire,” the special chronicles correspondent Arwa Damon‘s last trip into the country, and features interviews with Damon, CNN executive VP Tony Maddox and other staffers and executives.

The goal is to shine a light on how incredibly difficult and dangerous the situation in the country is, and what news organizations are doing to shine alight on the situation there.

“It’s a humanitarian crisis. We might not be able to bring about immediate change to Syria, but the one thing that we absolutely cannot do is walk away from this story – no matter how long it takes,” Damon says.

Ann Curry Celebrates 15 Years at ‘Today’

On Sunday, Ann Curry will celebrate her 15th anniversary with the “Today” show. So this morning, Al Roker gave her a shoutout.

“You surprised me. I had no idea you were going to do that,” said Curry, as clips of her 15 years flashed on the screen.

“Well if you would have read the script you would have known it!” joked Roker. Curry: “It’s not there, is it? I have to start reading the script. Natalie, save me. I’m so embarrassed.”

Happy anniversary Ann. After the jump, Curry’s Top 15 moments at “Today.”

Sunday Show Ratings: March 4

‘Twas the Sunday before Super Tuesday, and all across the networks, politicos were spinning, pining for votes.

Newt Gingrich led the pack, appearing on the “big three” shows, though it didn’t help on Tuesday, as everyone now knows.

It was a split decision in the ratings between CBS and NBC, “Meet the Press,” led in total viewers, but in the demo, “Face the Nation” held the key.

ABC’s “This Week” placed third in both as it so often goes, followed by “Fox News Sunday” and “Al Punto con Jorge Ramos.”

All of the programs were up compared to last year, except for “Meet the Press” which was down in both total and demo viewers, that much is clear.

On the cable replays “Fox News Sunday” saw gains, adding 2.37 million total and 622,000 viewers, not at all chump change.

The numbers for March 4:

Network Program Total Viewers A25-54
NBC
“Meet the Press” 3.22M 908K
CBS
“Face the Nation” 3.07M 931K
ABC “This Week” 2.53M 867K
FOX “Fox News Sunday” 1.14M 477K
Univision “Al Punto” 846K 342K
