Australian rock group Jet -- perhaps best known for their song hit "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," which appeared in the original commercial for Apple's iPod -- have officially called it quits "to pursue separate creative endeavors." The group made the announcement in a press release Monday afternoon.

"After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group," the group said. "From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and good night."

Highlight: "Filming the video was fun, considering we never actually played together during the shoot," vocalist/guitarist Christopher Martin tells Spinner. "It was all done with a green screen and 'created' in the post editing process. That being said, this shows the talent of the director Merritt Fields. He, along with Paul Nugent and Zayra Alvarez, created a visual hijinks that was fun and showed us playing and singing. It was a great bonus to have the album artwork, done by Brad Bond, also included in the video. We wanted it to be a performance video from the start, and we are happy with what it came to be."

Though their individual members have found varying degrees of success in their solo careers, Minneapolis based hip-hop collective Doomtree are blowing up on the strength of their third album, "No Kings." Touring behind their ambitious effort, the group -- Cecil Otter, Dessa, Lazerbeak, Mike Mictlan, Paper Tiger, P.O.S. and Sims -- has become one of the most exciting, high-energy live acts around.

Despite a late night before, the septet showed up at our New York studio at 10AM, shook off the early-morning rust and delivered an explosive set that also happened to be Spinner's first foray into hip-hop for The Interface. Afterward, all of Doomtree sat down with Spinner to discuss "No Kings," their egalitarian ethos, hip-hop in Minneapolis and recording in a cabin in the woods. Read the full Q&A below!

The 'No Kings' tour seems to be going great. What's it been like out there? Any crazy moments?

P.O.S.: This tour has been more crowded than all of the other tours. Attendance is definitely up, and excitement is up. We play in little cities like Denton, Texas, and everybody in the crowd bodysurfs and does a backflip and tears their face off and throws it at the wall and flips out, lights their shoes on fire. Everybody's nuts.

Spinner joined forces with the Red Bull Music Academy and Young Lions Music Club for the Artist Select Series at Toronto live music hotspot The Garrison during CMW's Canadian Music Fest. The first two nights were curated and hosted by, respectively, Canadian rapper Shad and Jeremy Greenspan of Hamilton, ON heroes Junior Boys.

We've captured video from the event, including highlights from Toronto singer-producer-rapper Slakah the Beatchild's new project, The Slakadeliqs and local Oscar-nominated filmmaker-turned-remix artist Kids & Explosions, who describes himself as "a boy who makes songs by stealing other people's songs and making them worse" but was more aptly introduced by Shad as "mind-blowing."

Greenspan's bill featured a turn from electronic pop experimentalist Airbird, a New York artist also known as Joel Ford who has most recently been making music as part of Ford & Lopatin. Greenspan predicts, and with reason, that Airbird "will undoubtedly be getting huge attention all over the place."

Iceland's Sigur Rós are returning from their long hiatus to release their sixth studio album this pring. According to Q Magazine, the album, Valtari, will arrive in the US on May 29. To give fans a little taste of what's to come, the band released a song, "Ekki Múkk," as well as an accompanying video.

As far as the sound of the album, singer Jónsi will be producing it along with his frequent collaborator Alex Somers. Jónsi claims the album is "heavy and floaty," and if any band could pull off that apparent contradiction in terms, it would be Sigur Rós. "There's more electric stuff than before ... but don't worry, we haven't made a dance record," he continued. Jónsi also made it known that the album will not contain any English lyrics.

Chicago indie-rock trio Empires are back and grittier than ever. The band's EP Can't Steal Your Heart Away is out Tuesday (March 27) and serves as a teaser of what's to come in June when they release their third full-length, Garage Hymns.

Title track Can't Steal Your Heart Away is the raucous opening number (and proclaimed centerpiece) off both the album and EP. It was the first of the new songs that the three members fell in love with right off the bat, singer Sean Van Vleet tells Spinner.
